If you get a new piercing, you know how important it is to keep the wound clean and healthy. Soaking after piercing is not recommended; but take a shower under the shower to be safer and easier. However, if your only option is to take a bath, there are things you can do to prevent infection.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Bathing under the Shower
Step 1. Take a shower, if you can
This method of bathing is safer, easier, and suitable for those of you who are newly pierced.
Ideally, you shouldn't soak until your piercing has healed and the bleeding has stopped
Step 2. Shower as usual
Be careful not to cut or bump the piercing. Do not pull or rub the area.
Step 3. Once done, pat the area dry with a clean and soft towel
Step 4. Rinse the wound with salt water (mix a pinch of sea salt with a glass of boiling water and a glass of cold water) or tea tree oil
For maximum results, use both of these ingredients. The purpose of this is to remove any bacteria or soap residue adhering to the injured area.
Step 5. Clean the piercing thoroughly before going to bed using the normal procedure
Method 2 of 2: Soaking (If Needed)
Step 1. Do this alone in a clean bathtub
Clean your bathtub first. Apply disinfectant and rinse the tub thoroughly. Repeat this step every time you shower after your body piercing.
Step 2. Keep the water temperature normal
Very hot water will cause the piercing to swell and hurt.
Step 3. If you can, cover the piercing with a waterproof cloth
If you can't, try your best to keep the wound out of water. Make sure the contact between water and the piercing is kept to a minimum.
Step 4. Take a shower as soon as possible
- Do not expose the piercing to soap, shampoo, conditioner, or other chemicals.
- Do not touch, pull, tug, rub, wash, or rub the area around the piercing while you are soaking.
Step 5. After getting out of the bath, gently pat the pierced area with a clean and soft towel
After that, wash it off immediately with salt water (mix a pinch of sea salt with a glass of boiling water and a glass of cold water) or tea tree oil. If you can, use both. The purpose of this is to remove any bacteria or soap residue that sticks to it. This should be done as soon as possible after bathing.
Step 6. Clean the piercing thoroughly with the normal procedure
Tips
Apply aloe vera gel to the new piercing. This gel is gentle enough to use for sensitive skin, has a good healing effect, and can act as antifungal and antibacterial
Warning
- Bathtubs are a breeding ground for bacteria, while warm water is an ideal medium for bacteria to breed. Keep it clean.
- Remember, piercing is an accessory that you can use for years. You can certainly refrain from bathing or swimming for a while to get the piercing you want. Infection in the piercing that is installed can cause serious injuries, such as a change in the direction of the piercing, the appearance of scars, the body's rejection of the piercing accessories, permanent damage, and blood poisoning if not treated immediately.
- Don't make a decision you'll regret later just because you want to take a shower or swim. Be patient and be wise.
- Remember, a new piercing is a deep, open wound and should be treated with care, as you would a normal open wound.
- Soap and bacteria can damage your new piercing. Make sure you rinse the injured area before stepping out of the shower!
- Never swim after a body piercing. Be patient. Swimming only lasts a few hours, while the infection can last for weeks. Piercing wounds that are not treated will leave scars that can not go away for life.
