Adherent dust, damage, dirty conditions can make eyeglass lenses blurry and severely restrict vision. While it's not possible to restore a scratched lens to its original condition, there are a few tricks you can use to efficiently treat blurry glasses without damaging the lenses. With the right equipment and knowledge, you can quickly see blue skies that previously seemed hazy behind blurry glasses.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Cleaning Blurry Glasses
Step 1. Take a soft and clean cloth
Usually, when you buy new glasses at an optician or optician, you will get a microfiber cloth specifically designed to clean eyeglass lenses. This cloth is ideal for cleaning smudges and cloudy lens conditions.
- If the microfiber cloth is lost or you forget where to put it, you can replace it with a soft, clean cloth. Cotton cloth, as long as it is clean, can be used. Remember not to use fabrics that have been washed with fabric softener as they can stain the lenses.
- Avoid using rough textiles, such as wool and some synthetic fabrics, facial tissue, or toilet paper, as they can cause fine scratches on the lenses of glasses over time.
Step 2. Use a lens cleaning product
This liquid is specially formulated to remove dirt stains without damaging the lens or lens coating (coating). Spray an adequate amount of cleaning product on the lenses, then rub with a clean soft cloth until the glasses are completely clean.
Do not try to clean glasses with saliva as it is ineffective and also very unhygienic
Step 3. Use dish soap and warm water
If you don't have a lens cleaning product, you can use a drop of dish soap and warm water to remove dirt and restore the brightness of the lens to its original state. Carefully use your fingers to apply the soap to the entire surface of the lens. Rinse off the soap with warm water and check the results. Proceed to the next step.
Step 4. Wipe the glasses with a soft cloth
After cleaning the glasses with the cleaning solution, use a soft cloth to wipe the lenses. Rub the lens dry in a gentle circular motion. Do not rub the lens vigorously because over time it can damage the lens.
Step 5. Check the lens to see if there are any stubborn smudges
You may have to try another cleaner before the lenses are completely clean, but this will depend on how dirty the glasses are. After cleaning the glasses with a cleaning product or dish soap and warm water, wipe the lenses with a soft cloth.
Step 6. Clean the dirt residue that sticks to the nose pad
Oil and dust can accumulate in the recesses between the nose pad and the lens and form an opaque film in the area near the nose. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush, dish soap and warm water to remove any build-up, but be careful not to hit the lenses while doing this.
- Fill a basin or other container with warm water and soap.
- Dip the toothbrush in the soap solution, then stir.
- Carefully brush the metal rod that connects the nose pad to the eyeglass frame.
- Shake the toothbrush in the soap and water solution to remove dirt and plaque adhering to the bristles.
- Rinse the glasses with warm water.
- Check to see if any dirt remains. If yes, repeat the same process until the dirt is completely gone.
Method 2 of 3: Making Your Own Lens Cleaner
Step 1. Prepare the materials needed
Homemade lens cleaners won't damage the lens coating like some other cleaning agents, but they will certainly get rid of cloudiness and smudges on eyeglass lenses. This is a cheaper alternative than buying ready-to-use eyeglass cleaners if your supplies run out or you didn't get them at your last visit to the eye doctor. To make your own lens cleaner, you will need:
- Liquid dish soap
- Isopropyl alcohol (or witch hazel)
- Measuring cup
- Microfiber cloth
- Small spray bottle
- Water
Step 2. Prepare the required materials
First, clean the spray bottle and measuring cup before making the lens cleaning solution. This step is done to prevent any dirt or dust left inside from contaminating the homemade lens cleaner. This is especially important if you are using a multipurpose spray bottle that may have previously been used to store other household cleaners.
Step 3. Mix the liquid ingredients in equal proportions
Once the measuring cup and spray bottle are clean, you should measure the water and isopropyl alcohol in a 1:1 ratio and pour it into the spray bottle. Shake the bottle gently to mix the solution.
For example, you can mix 30 ml of water with 30 ml of isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle
Step 4. Add liquid dish soap
For this recipe, you only need a small amount of dish soap so that the lens cleaner has the power to fight smudges. Add a drop of dish soap to the water and isopropyl alcohol mixture. Put the cap on the bottle and shake gently to mix the soap evenly.
Step 5. Spray a homemade cleaner and wipe away any smudges that make the lens look blurry
Spray an adequate amount of cleaner on each lens. Use a microfiber cloth to clean the sticky dirt and dust that has accumulated on the glasses.
If you don't have a special microfiber cloth for glasses, use a clean cotton cloth instead
Method 3 of 3: Preventing Lens Blur
Step 1. Always use a clean soft cloth
The microfiber cloth that you usually come with when buying glasses is ideal for wiping lenses, but over time they will get dirty. Over time, using a dirty and dusty cloth will cause the formation of tiny holes and scratches on the lens, making it blurry. To prevent this, always use a clean, soft cloth to wipe the glasses.
Step 2. Protect the goggles from getting dirty
The more dust and dirt that sticks to the cloth, the more damage will be done to the lens. Every time you dry, wipe, or polish your lenses, dirt particles will scratch the surface of your glasses.
To keep the lens cloth clean, keep it in the eyeglass case that you carry with you throughout the day. You can also put it in a clip-on plastic bag or other container and put it in a backpack or bag
Step 3. Wash the lens cloth
The washing process may vary depending on the fabric material. Soft cotton fabrics can be washed like any other material, but it's a good idea to follow the instructions given for the fabric. To wash a microfiber cloth, do the following:
- Separate with other fabrics.
- Add a small amount of liquid detergent to the washing machine. Do not use fabric softener products as they will stick to the fabric fibers and leave stains when used to clean lenses.
- Use the cold water setting when washing.
- Put the microfiber cloth and other fabrics in the washing machine.
- Hang the cloth and let it dry on its own or use a tumble dryer on a low/no heat setting.
Step 4. Clean the lens regularly
At the end of the day glasses will usually be full of dust, dirt, and oil from the face and hands. Cleaning the lenses regularly with a lens cleaning product or a solution of water with a drop of dish soap can reduce the level of blurring of glasses that may occur on a daily basis.
Step 5. Store the glasses in a box when not in use
This will protect the glasses from dust and damage if they are accidentally dropped. Instead of just putting the glasses on the bedside table, put them in a box, and then place them on the table. That way, the glasses won't break or break if you accidentally drop them.
