Glasses are usually an expensive item so it is important that you take care of them. Fortunately, cleaning glasses can be done quickly and easily. The best ingredients for cleaning glasses are warm water and dish soap. Therefore, take your glasses to the sink or sink and cover them with soap suds! If you are away or on a trip, clean your glasses with a cleaning spray product or wet wipes. If you stick to your daily grooming routine, your glasses will always look new and shiny, and you'll be able to see more clearly.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Warm Water and Dishwashing Soap
Step 1. Wash your hands before cleaning the glasses
Wash your hands for 20 seconds using soap without lotion and warm water. Make sure your hands are free of dust, oil, and dirt before you wash your glasses.
Step 2. Rinse the glasses using warm water
Open the hot water tap and let the water run over the glasses. Rotate the glasses to wet each side of the lenses, frames, and earbuds.
Hot water can damage lenses, protective film and eyeglass frames. Therefore, make sure you use warm water
Step 3. Use your fingertips to coat the glasses with dish soap
Pour one drop of dishwashing soap without lotion over each lens. Spread the soap on both sides of the lens, the area around the frame, and each earbud using your fingertips in a circular motion.
Step 4. Clean the nose pads using a cotton swab or soft-bristled toothbrush
Use light pressure when rubbing the nose pads, gaps between pads, and eyeglass frames. If you use a toothbrush, make sure you choose a soft-bristled brush.
Do not scratch the lens with a toothbrush, even if you are using a soft-bristled brush. If there is dirt or soap residue that has accumulated between the lens and the frame, use an ear plug to remove it
Step 5. Rinse off the remaining soap
Hold the glasses under running water to rinse off any residual soap suds. Make sure you clean it thoroughly because soap residue can leave stains on the glasses.
Step 6. Shake the glasses to remove any remaining water and make sure the lenses are clean
Turn off the tap, then shake the glasses carefully. Check the lens to make sure it's clean, and wash it again if you still see smudges.
Step 7. Dry the glasses using a microfiber cloth
Wrap both sides of the lens with a clean microfiber cloth. Dry the lens by wiping the cloth in a circular motion, then repeat for the other lens. Wipe the nose pads, then use the cloth to dry and scrub the earbuds and frames.
Method 2 of 3: Cleaning Glasses While Traveling
Step 1. Spray an eyeglass cleaning product on your glasses
Eyeglass cleaning spray products can be purchased from pharmacies or eyewear stores. If you can't find a sink and dish soap, spray your glasses with a cleaning product to remove dust and dirt.
- Some eyeglass manufacturers and optometrists also offer free samples of eyeglass cleaning spray.
- If you use anti-reflective glasses, make sure the product you use is labeled safe for anti-reflective coating on lenses.
Step 2. Wipe the cleaning product with a microfiber cloth
After spraying the cleaning product on the glasses, carefully wipe off any excess product. Wrap a rag on both sides of the lens, then absorb the remaining cleaner using your fingertips in a circular motion. After that, use a cloth to dry the frame and earbuds.
Step 3. Clean the lenses with disposable wet wipes for glasses
You can also clean your glasses with a wet tissue when you are on the move. Blow on the lens to remove dust and dirt, then wipe with a damp tissue in a gentle circular motion. After cleaning, dry the lens with a microfiber cloth.
Only use wet wipes that are formulated to clean glasses. If you use anti-reflective glasses, make sure the wipes you use are safe for the anti-reflective coating of the lenses
Method 3 of 3: Following a Glasses Care Routine
Step 1. Clean the glasses every morning and when needed
Get into the habit of cleaning your glasses in the morning. Check the condition of the glasses during the day, and clean them as necessary.
Keep the glasses clean and free of smudges to prevent scratching the lenses
Step 2. Store the glasses in a hard case when not wearing them
Do not put the glasses directly into a purse or bag, and do not place the lenses on a hard surface. When not wearing, store glasses in a hard-shell case. The eyeglass holder must be the right size for your glasses. If they are too large, the glasses may be shaken or bumped and damaged.
Step 3. Periodically clean the microfiber cloth
The microfiber cloth collects oil and dirt so you should clean it after 2-3 uses. Some fabrics can be washed in a washing machine so check the care instructions and wash the fabric as directed.
If the washcloth is not machine washable (or if you are unsure), wash it manually (by hand) using dish soap, wring it out, and air dry it
Step 4. Do not wipe the glasses with clothing, tissue, or paper towels
Clothing, tissue, and paper towels contain fine dust that can scratch the lens. Also, never wipe the glasses dry because there is a risk of damaging the lenses or other parts.
