False eyelashes can make your eyelashes appear much thicker and longer. You may have to practice a few times to get it right. However, removing false lashes and removing excess glue is quite simple. You just need to choose the right product or method to dissolve the glue so that the false eyelashes are easy to remove. Whether it's an eye makeup remover, oil, or steam, you can easily remove false lashes in just a few minutes.

Step

Method 1 of 3: Using Eye Makeup Remover

Step 1. Choose an eye makeup remover with a formula suitable for false eyelashes

Oil-based makeup removers are usually most effective at dissolving eyelash glue. However, if you want to use more false eyelashes, we recommend choosing an oil-free makeup remover. The excess oil on the false eyelashes will make it difficult to apply again.

Step 2. Wet a cotton ball with the makeup remover solution

Although most have gentle formulas, there are also eye makeup remover products that can cause eye irritation. To prevent this product from getting into the eye, we recommend using a cotton swab so that you can apply it only where it is needed. Wet the cotton swab, but don't let it drip.

Some makeup brands provide eyelash glue remover products. This product is specially formulated to clean glue. However, regular eye makeup remover can also be used

Step 3. Wipe the cotton ball along the eyelash bone

After moistening with a makeup remover product, gently wipe the cotton ball on the part of the false lashes that are attached to the eyelids. This will allow the cleaning product to soak in and loosen the glue.

Step 4. Leave the makeup remover product for a few minutes on the eyelids

Sometimes, you may have to wait a little longer for the eyelash glue to dissolve. Allow the cleaning product to sit on the false eyelash bone for 1-3 minutes until the glue loosens.

Step 5. Pull the false eyelashes from the outer corner of the eye

Once the false eyelashes feel easy to move, place your finger flat on your eyelid. Gently pull it up and out to loosen the adhesion to the skin. After that, hold the false eyelashes with your fingers or tweezers and peel away from the eyebrows.

Step 6. Wipe the cotton ball on the eyelid and false eyelash bone again

Even after the false eyelashes have been successfully removed, there may still be residual glue on the eyelids and false eyelash bone. To clean it, dip the other end of a cotton swab in a makeup remover and rub it over your eyelids and false eyelash bone.

Step 7. Pull the remaining glue from the eyelashes

After applying the eye make-up remover a second time, you should now be able to peel off any excess glue from your lashes with just your hands. If the glue is hard to peel off, apply the makeup remover again and repeat.

Step 8. Wipe the remaining makeup remover off the skin and clean the face

Once the eyelash glue has removed, there may be a small amount of cleanser left on your skin. To clean it, wipe your face with a cotton swab or facial tissue. After that, use the facial soap you like to clean the skin thoroughly.

Method 2 of 3: Dissolving Glue with Oil

Step 1. Wet a cotton ball with any oil you like

Oil is often effective at dissolving eyelash glue. You can use coconut, almond, extra virgin olive oil, or baby oil. Just moisten a cotton ball with oil, but make sure it doesn't drip.

  • You can use a cotton ball instead of a cotton ball if you prefer.
  • Oils tend to be gentler than eye makeup removers. So, this method is suitable if your eyes are sensitive. In addition, the oil is also very moisturizing so it is suitable if the skin around your eyes is dry.
  • Cleaning eyelash glue with oil may not be suitable if you have oily or acne-prone skin as it can clog pores. The use of oil can even cause pimples around the eyes if you have oily skin.
  • Keep in mind that the oil will make the false eyelashes more difficult to reattach. If you plan to use false eyelashes again, we recommend choosing another method.

Step 2. Press the cotton ball against the false eyelash bone and hold it for a few minutes

To allow the oil to reach the glue layer and loosen it, hold a cotton ball against the false eyelash bone. Try to place the cotton ball as close as possible to the line where your eyelid meets the false eyelash bone. Hold the cotton ball on your eyelid for 1-3 minutes or until the false eyelash glue loosens.

Step 3. Pull the false eyelashes from the outer corner of the eye

Once the glue has loosened, use your fingers or tweezers to grasp the outer corners of the false eyelashes. Gently remove the false eyelashes, being careful not to pull out your natural lashes.

Step 4. Use a new cotton ball to remove any remaining glue

If there is still some glue remaining on your eyelids or false eyelash bone, moisten a new cotton ball with oil. Then, run along the edges of the eyelid and/or false eyelash bone to remove any excess glue.

Step 5. Wipe off the remaining oil and clean your face

After the eyelash glue has been removed, there may still be some oil residue around your eyes. To clean it, use a facial cotton or cotton ball. After that, clean your face thoroughly with the soap you normally use.

Method 3 of 3: Using Steam

Step 1. Pour a few cups of boiling water into a bowl

Pour 3-4 cups (750ml-1 liter) of boiling water into a heatproof bowl. If you have one, use a facial steamer instead of a bowl.

Step 2. Put a towel over your head and place your face over the bowl

The towel will trap the steam so it can loosen the glue. However, do not place your face too close to hot water as it can cause burns. Leave a distance of at least 50 cm between your face and hot water.

Step 3. Steam your face for 3-5 minutes

To loosen the eyelash glue, steam your face for a few minutes. Setting an alarm might help remind you not to steam your face for too long.

Cleaning false eyelash glue with steam is also beneficial for cleaning facial pores

Step 4. Pull the false eyelashes from the outer corner of the eye

Once the steam loosens the glue, try gently pulling the false eyelashes from the outer corners and exfoliating them. If there is still glue remaining on the eyelid or false eyelash bone, simply use your fingers to remove it.

Step 5. Splash cold water on face and apply moisturizer

Your facial pores will open after steaming. So you have to close it again. Clean your face as usual then finish with a splash of cold water. Dry your face with a towel and apply the moisturizer you normally use to lock pores.

Step 6. Avoid using steam treatments more than once a week

If you wear false eyelashes several times a week, don't always use the steam method to remove the glue. Steaming your face too often can make it red, sensitive, and even breakouts. To protect your skin, use this steam method alternately with other methods.
