Eyelash curlers can cause your lashes to pluck and break, so you may need another way to curl them. Luckily, you don't need expensive equipment to make your lashes look longer--and your eyes will stand out. Try curling your lashes using a spoon, mascara, or natural ingredients like aloe vera gel. Whichever method you choose, a little heat can help maintain the shape of your lashes.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Using a Spoon
Step 1. Prepare a clean spoon
Use a regular teaspoon instead of a tablespoon. You need a spoon that fits your eye size, so that the curve of the spoon matches the curve of your eyelid.
Step 2. Wash the spoon with hot water
A warm spoon will make the shape of your eyelashes last longer, because it can provide heat to the eyelashes. The effect of a warm spoon on the eyelashes is similar to that of a curling iron. Dry the spoon when it's warm.
Step 3. Stick the spoon on the eyelid
Place the spoon horizontally and press gently against your eyelids. The convex part of the spoon should be against the eyelid, while the concave part is pointing outward. Line up the edge of the spoon with the top lash line.
Step 4. Press the lashes with the convex side of the spoon
Use your fingers to press the lashes against the edge of the spoon and into the concave side. Press the lashes with a warm spoon in this position for at least 30 seconds.
- Pay attention to your curly eyelashes. If you want to make your lashes appear thicker, repeat the above steps for another 30 seconds. You can also use this method to curl your lower lashes.
- Repeat the above steps on your other eye, having warmed up the spoon first.
Step 5. Apply mascara to maintain the shape of the eyelashes
Use clear or black mascara to keep your lashes curled throughout the day.
Step 6. Apply the wet mascara to each of your lashes
Use an eyelash comb to style and separate each lash. Don't apply too much mascara, or your lashes will be damaged.
Step 7. Done
Method 2 of 4: Using Earplugs and Mascara
Step 1. Apply mascara as usual
One or two coats of mascara according to your taste. Don't wait for the mascara to dry to move on to the next step; Mascara must be wet so that the shape of the eyelashes lasts longer.
Step 2. Use an ear matchstick to push the lashes upwards
Hold the swab horizontally just along the lash line, and press your lashes to curl them. You can also use a nail file or other long, thin tool to curl your lashes upwards.
Step 3. Keep the lashes in position for at least 30 seconds
During this time, your mascara will dry and help your lashes stay curled.
Step 4. Heat your lashes with a hairdryer
Turn on the hairdryer on the warm temperature option, and place it at least 15 cm away from your face. Gently heating and drying the mascara will make your curly lashes last longer.
- Do not turn on the hairdryer on the hottest temperature option. The hot air it emits can hurt your eyes.
- You don't need to do this step if you're satisfied with the shape of your lashes without using a hairdryer.
Step 5. Repeat all the above steps on your lower lash and your other eye
Be patient when pressing the earplug. Don't remove it from your eyes until the mascara is completely dry and your lashes are curled.
Method 3 of 4: Using Finger
Step 1. Start curling your lashes before applying mascara
Lashes that have not been coated with mascara will not get your hands dirty.
Step 2. Warm your fingertips
You can dip your fingers in warm water for a few minutes or rub them together until they feel warm.
Step 3. Press your eyelashes up
Use your index finger to press the lashes over your eyes. Hold this position for at least 30 seconds. Repeat on your lower lash and the other eye.
Step 4. Apply two coats of mascara to maintain the shape of the eyelashes
Gently apply mascara from the roots to the tips of the lashes. If you need to brush your lashes, brush them gently so you don't damage the shape of your lashes.
Method 4 of 4: Maintain Eyelash Shape with Aloe Vera Gel
Step 1. Pour some aloe vera gel onto your middle finger
Rub your thumb and middle finger to spread the gel and warm it.
Step 2. Apply the gel to your eyelashes
Place your thumb under your eyelashes, and slowly close your eyes. Gently press your lashes and run your fingers across them. Apply several times until the gel is evenly distributed.
Step 3. Press your eyelashes up to make them curl
Place your index finger horizontally under the eyelashes and press it upwards. Hold this position for at least 30 seconds until the aloe vera gel dries. Do the same for your lower lashes and your other eye.
- Your lashes will curl longer if you turn on a warm hair dryer in front of your lashes to keep them in shape. Make sure to turn on the warm temperature, not the hot temperature.
- Once the aloe vera gel dries, you can apply mascara or leave it alone.
Tips
- Comb the eyelashes on the outer edge of the eye outwards so that they appear thicker.
- Do not apply excessive heat to the eyelashes, or your eyelashes may be damaged.
- You can also use Vaseline, just don't use too much so it doesn't clump and fall apart, use only a little, as if using aloe vera gel.
- You can also use your palms to curl your eyelashes. The palms of the hands are usually warmer than the tips of the fingers, although they cannot press the eyelashes properly.
- Shake the mascara wand back and forth to blend and separate your lashes.
- Do not try to put aloe vera gel in your eyes, as this can cause pain.
- Be sure not to put your fingers, spoon, or mascara in your eyes so they can irritate your eyes.
- Never use a hairdryer to heat a metal spoon because there is a risk of burns.
