This wikiHow teaches you how to report a user account on Facebook. You can do this via the Facebook mobile app or desktop site. If a user posts something offensive or obscene, you can report the post.

Method 1 of 2: Via Mobile App
Step 1. Open Facebook
Tap the Facebook app, which is a white "f" on a blue background. Click to open your News Feed if you are logged in to Facebook.
If you're not logged into Facebook, enter your email address (or phone number) and password to continue
Step 2. Go to the page of the user you want to report
Tap the search bar at the top of the screen, type the name of the person you want to report, tap their name, then tap their profile picture.
- Otherwise, find and tap its name in your News Feed.
- You can also report a business or celebrity page, though the reporting method will be slightly different.
Step 3. Tap More
This option is near the top of the user's page, just below and to the right of their name.
Step 4. Tap Give feedback or report this profile
This is a pop-up menu. Tap to bring up another menu containing reporting options.
Step 5. Select the reason you are reporting the profile
Tap one of the following options in the menu:
- Pretending to Be Someone (pretend to be someone)
- Fake Account (fake account)
- Fake Name (fake name)
- Post Inappropriate Things (uploads obscene things)
- I Want to Help (I want to help)
- Something Else (Other things)
Step 6. Select advanced details, if needed, If you choose the Pretending to Be Someone option or I Want to Help, do the following:
- Pretending to Be Someone: Tap Me (I), A Friend (friend), or Celebrity (celebrity) in the segment "Who are they pretending to be ?" (related account pretending to be who?).
- I Want to Help: Tap the reason for reporting (e.g. Suicide /suicide or Harassment /oppression) in the "Can you give us some more details ?" (can you provide more details?).
Step 7. Tap Send
It's a blue button at the bottom of the screen.
Step 8. Tap Done if prompted
You will confirm the submitted report.
Method 2 of 2: Via Desktop
Step 1. Visit Facebook
Go to in your computer's web browser. Your News Feed will open when you are logged in to Facebook.
If you're not logged in yet, enter your email address (or phone number) and password in the top-right corner of the page before continuing
Step 2. Go to the page of the user you want to report
Click the search bar at the top of the screen, type in the name of the user you want to report, click their name, then click their profile picture.
Otherwise, select it and click on its name in your News Feed
Step 3. Click
It's in the lower-right corner of the cover photo at the top of the profile page. Click to open the drop down menu.
Step 4. Click Give feedback or report this profile
This option is in the pop-up menu. Click to open a window with various reporting options.
Step 5. Select a reason for reporting the profile
Click one of the following options in the window:
- Pretending to Be Someone (pretend to be someone)
- Fake Account (fake account)
- Fake Name (fake name)
- Post Inappropriate Things (uploads obscene things)
- I Want to Help (I want to help)
- Something Else (Other things)
Step 6. Select follow-up details if needed
If you choose either option Pretending to Be Someone or I Want to Help, do the following:
- Pretending to Be Someone: Tap Me (I), A Friend (friend), or Celebrity (celebrity) in the segment "Who are they pretending to be ?" (associated account pretend to be?).
- I Want to Help: Tap the reason for reporting (e.g. Suicide /suicide or Harassment /oppression) in the "Can you give us some more details ?" (can you provide more details?).
Step 7. Click Send
It's a blue button in the lower-right corner of the window.
Step 8. Click Done if prompted
You will confirm the submitted report.
Tips
- All reports are confidential. The person being reported will not know that you reported it.
- If you find something you don't like on Facebook that doesn't violate Facebook's Terms and Conditions, you can hide it from the News Feed, unfriend, or block the person, or message the relevant user and ask them to delete the post directly.
Warning
- Don't report users if they don't violate Facebook rules. Reporting a user who hasn't done anything wrong by Facebook's standards can cost you your account.
- Be honest when reporting problems.
