Eye color is something unique and difficult to change without the use of contact lenses. Even so, you can still emphasize the natural color of your eyes using certain eyeshadow colors. You can also change the entire look of eye color for one day using colored contact lenses. Surgical options are also available, but at the time we wrote this article, eye color change surgery was still in the testing phase. This article will show you several ways to change eye color, as well as provide information about colored contact lenses and surgery.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Using Eyeshadow to Brighten Eye Color
Step 1. Understand how makeup affects your eye color
You really can't use makeup to turn blue eyes into brown, or vice versa. But you can use eyeshadow to emphasize the natural color of your eyes. Depending on the eyeshadow color you use, your eye color may appear lighter, duller, or paler. Certain eye colors, such as hazel and gray can be affected by some eyeshadow colors. This section will show you how to use eyeshadow to change the color of your eyes.
Step 2. Emphasize blue eyes with warm eyeshadow
Orange tones like coral and champagne are perfect for highlighting blue eyes. These colors will make your blue eyes appear brighter and more striking than their natural color. On the other hand, blue eyeshadow will make the blue color of your eyes paler or lighter. Here are some color combinations you can try:
- For everyday use, choose neutral colors like brown, taupe, terracotta, or any shade of orange.
- For a special occasion at night, try metallic colors, such as gold, copper, or bronze.
- Avoid using colors that are too dark, especially if you have fair skin. When choosing eyeliner, use brown or dark brown, because it looks softer than black.
Step 3. Choose cool colors to make brown eyes appear brighter
People with brown eyes can wear almost any color, but cool colors, like purples and blues, will make them much brighter. Here are some color options that you can try:
- For daily activities, choose the color brown. To make your eye color stand out even more, try using a silvery brown eyeshadow or a pale orange brown.
- If you want to be different, try using blue, gray, green, or purple.
- For special events at night, you can use metallic colors, such as: gold, copper, or bronze. The green pseudo gold color will also suit you.
- If your eye color is dark brown or black, try using gem colors like light blue or violet. You would also go well with silver and brown.
Step 4. Accentuate green or blue on gray eyes with blue or green eyeshadow
Gray eyes are easily influenced by the colors around them. This means you can use eyeshadow to give your eyes a bluish or greenish tinge. If you want to bring out the natural grays of your eyes, use dark colors like silver, charcoal or black. Here are some tips on how to bring out the green and blue on gray eyes:
- To bring out the blue, choose the following eyeshadow colors: copper, melon, neutral brown, orange, reddish orange, or salmon. You can further accentuate the blue tint by dabbing blue on the inner corner of your eye.
- To bring out the green, try using the following eyeshadow colors: maroon, pink, purplish, purple, tawny, or wine red.
Step 5. Emphasize green eyes with purple or brown
There are several color choices that are most suitable for green eyes. The color contrasts with the green pigment in your eyes, making them appear brighter and fresher. For example, you can wear purple eyeshadow for a special occasion, and brown or glossy taupe for everyday activities. Here are some other color options you can try:
- All shades of purple will suit you. If you don't like purple, use pink instead.
- If you're hesitant about using purple, try dabbing taupe eyeshadow on your lids and dabbing some purple near your lash line.
- Black eyeliner is too sharp for green eyes. So, try using charcoal, silver, or dark purple eyeliner instead.
Step 6. Take advantage of green and gold freckles if your eyes are hazel
Hazel-colored eyes have green and gold speckled parts. That way, you can use a different shade of eyeshadow to highlight these freckles. Here are some options you can try:
- Avoid using thick and dark colors. These colors can actually disguise the green and gold freckles on hazel eyes, and make them appear blurry.
- To bring out the greens and golds in your eyes, try using bronze, faded pink, or eggplant eyeshadows. The army green color is also perfect for accentuating green flecks.
- If you want to emphasize the brown color in your eyes, use gold or green eyeshadow.
Method 2 of 4: Temporarily Change Eye Color with Contact Lenses
Step 1. Visit an ophthalmologist for a contact lens prescription
Even if your vision is not impaired, you should check your eye size before wearing contact lenses. Eyeballs vary in shape, and wearing the wrong contact lenses can cause eye pain. Sometimes, even your eyes don't fit into contact lenses, and your doctor may prescribe special contact lenses for you, especially if your eyes are dry.
Step 2. Buy contact lenses at the official store
The quality of contact lenses is more or less determined by the price. In this case, you may be better off spending more to buy quality and safe contact lenses, rather than buying cheaper contact lenses but regretting it later. The eyes are sensitive organs, and poor quality products can cause damage to the eyes.
- The best place to buy contact lenses is at an optician or optician.
- Colored contact lenses prescribed by doctors are also available for those with impaired vision.
Step 3. Determine how often you will wear contact lenses
Some contact lenses can only be worn once, while others can be worn multiple times. Since colored lenses are usually more expensive than regular lenses, you should take this into account. Here are a few different types of lenses for you to choose from:
- Disposable contact lenses are usually expensive. You have to replace it after one use. If you plan to wear contact lenses only once or twice, consider this.
- Lenses for daily use should be removed at night. How often you should replace it depends on the manufacturer's recommendations. Some contact lenses need to be changed once a week, while others you can wear for a month, or even more.
- Long-term contact lenses can be worn even while you sleep, although this is not recommended. The longer you use it, the more likely you are to get an infection. Just like lenses for everyday use, long-term contact lenses should be replaced according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Some contact lenses can be used for one week, while others can be used longer.
Step 4. Buy transparent contact lenses if your eye color is bright, and you just want to change it up a bit
You can also buy these kinds of contact lenses to emphasize the natural color of your eyes (even if your eye color is quite sharp). Since such lenses are see-through, this option is not recommended for people with dark eyes. The color on the lens won't have much of an effect.
Step 5. Buy opaque contact lenses if you want to drastically change your eye color, or if your eye color is dark
As the name suggests, these contact lenses are cloudy in color and can actually change the color of your eyes. You can buy opaque lenses in natural eye colors like brown, blue, gray, green, and hazel, or unnatural colors like red, white, cat's eye, and purple.
Some shops also offer to make custom colors
Step 6. Be aware of changes in the appearance of the eyes due to the use of contact lenses
You will wear contact lenses that slide inside your eye when you blink. This means that the position of the contact lens inside the eye can change, and the natural color of your eye will be seen, and people will know that you are wearing contact lenses.
This problem will be most obvious on opaque contact lenses and more subtle on transparent lenses
Step 7. Watch out for some visual disturbances
The size of your iris and pupil changes naturally as you enter a room with different light levels. In fact, the size of the contact lens has not changed. This means that when you enter a dark room, and your pupils are dilated, part of your view will be blocked by the colored part of the contact lens. On the other hand, if you are outdoors and in bright sunlight, your pupils will shrink, and some of your natural color may be visible through the clear parts of your contact lenses.
Step 8. Keep your contact lenses clean
If you don't clean your contact lenses properly on a regular basis, you may develop an infection. Some infections are quite serious, and can lead to blindness. You should always keep your contact lenses in their case when not in use. You should always clean contact lenses with saline before putting them back in their case. Be sure to fill the lens case with fresh saline solution before you return it.
- Always wash your hands before touching contact lenses.
- Never use saliva to moisten contact lenses. Because human saliva is filled with germs.
- Do not share contact lenses with anyone, even if you always clean them.
Step 9. Do not wear contact lenses more than the recommended time, and remove them if necessary
This means that you should always remove your contact lenses before going to bed. This includes long-term contact lenses. Although long-term contact lenses can be worn overnight, leaving them in the eye for too long can lead to eye infections. You should remove contact lenses before showering or swimming.
- Some contact lenses can be worn multiple times, while others can only be worn once. Never wear contact lenses more than the recommended time.
- Saline solutions can also expire. Never use saline solution past its expiration date.
- To prevent bacterial growth, contact lenses should be changed every three to six months.
Method 3 of 4: Changing Eye Color Using Photoshop
Step 1. Run Photoshop and open the image you want to edit
You can use any image, but clear, high-resolution images are better suited. To open an image, click "File" in the top bar, and select "Open" from the drop-down menu.
Step 2. Enlarge the eye area
You can enlarge the eye area by clicking the magnifying glass icon. This icon is located in the lower-left sidebar of the screen. If you can't find it, press the "Z" key on your keyboard. You can now enlarge the eyes in the image in two ways:
- Click on the eye with the left mouse. This image will enlarge. Keep clicking until you can see the section clearly.
- Click a dot just above the left eye. Point the mouse under the eye. A box will be formed. If you let go, whatever is in the box will fill your screen.
Step 3. Use the lasso device to select the iris
If you can't find it, you may have chosen another lasso device. Click and hold the lasso device (usually the icon in the third row from the top) and select the symbol that resembles a lasso string from the drop-down menu. After selecting your device, place it around the edges of the iris. You don't need to follow the shape exactly, because you can fix it later.
To select another color, press and hold the "Shift" key. Place it around the iris as in the previous step
Step 4. Create a new image conversion layer
You can do this by clicking the Layer option in the menu at the top, and selecting " New Adjustment Layer " from the menu that opens.
When you drag your mouse over to " New Adjustment Layer ", you'll see a side menu that expands with a variety of options. Select "Hue/Saturation" from the list.
Step 5. Hover your mouse over "Adjustments" and make sure to enable "Colorize"
The "Adjustment" window is the same size as the other windows, including the one containing layers and color options. Click "Adjustments" and make sure the box next to the word "Colorize" is checked. You will see the iris in the image change color.
The pupil of the eye may also change color. Don't worry, you can fix it later
Step 6. Slide the " Hue ", " Saturation ", and " Lightness " adjusters until you get the color you want
The " Hue " adjuster will change the visible color. The " Saturation " adjuster will make the color lighter or darker. Adjuster " Lightness " can change the sharpness of the color to be lighter or darker.
The color you get may look a little less natural. Don't worry, you can fix it later
Step 7. Make sure you are working on the " Adjustment Layer"
Click the " Layers " option. You will see two different layers, namely " Background " and " Hue/Saturation ". Make sure the marked layer is " Hue/Saturation ". You will change the image in this layer. Whereas the "Background" layer is your original image.
Step 8. Use the " Eraser " tool to open the pupil and clean the area around the iris
Click the " Eraser " device on the side menu. Adjust the size if necessary. You can do this by hovering your mouse over the top menu bar and clicking on the small circle and amount that appears next to the word " Brush ". Once the " Eraser " is the size you want, carefully erase the pupil. When you're done, erase the part around the iris as well. If necessary, remove the surrounding light as well.
When you're done, the eyes in the image should look like the real thing, just a different color
Step 9. Change the blending options of the image if necessary
Open " Layer " once again, and click on the menu that opens to the bottom. You'll see options like Normal, Dissolve, Darken, and Multiply. Try selecting " Hue " or " Color " from the bottom of the menu. The original texture of the eye will appear clearer.
Step 10. Unite the image layers once you are satisfied with the result
Right-click on the layer labeled "Background" and select "Merge Visible" from the menu that opens.
Step 11. Save your image
You can save the image in any file format you want. Photoshop will also save it as a Photoshop file automatically. Try saving your image as a JPEG; which is the standard form of images used on the internet.
Method 4 of 4: Undergoing Surgery to Change Eye Color
Step 1. Perform laser surgery to change brown eyes to blue
This operation only takes 20 seconds. The brown outer layer of the iris will be peeled off and the blue underneath will be exposed. Over the course of two to four weeks, the body will get rid of the remaining brown layer. During this time, the blue color of the eyes will be more pronounced.
Step 2. Know the drawbacks of the brown eye color change operation to blue
At the time this article was written, this surgical procedure was still in an experimental stage, so its long-term effects are unknown. This surgery is also not yet commercially available in the United States. The cost involved is also very large, and is currently estimated at around Rp. 60,000,000.00. This operation can only change the brown color to blue, and this change is permanent. Just like many other eye surgeries, this procedure may also cause blindness.
Step 3. Attach colored iris to your eye through surgery
This surgery takes about 15 minutes for each eye, and is performed under local anesthesia. The flexible, colored iris is inserted into the eye, just above your natural iris.
- The results of this operation are not permanent. The implanted iris can be removed again with the same operation.
- The postoperative recovery period is two weeks. During this time, your vision may be blurry, and your eyes may appear reddened.
- You should not drive after surgery. If you're considering this option, make sure someone can take you home.
Step 4. Understand the risks of iris implant surgery
As with many other surgeries, implanting an iris into your eye has many risks. your vision may get worse. In some cases, your vision may even be completely lost. Following are some of the other complications you may face:
- The false iris will increase the pressure in your eye. This can lead to glaucoma which can lead to blindness.
- This eye surgery may cause cataracts. Cataract is a cloudy condition of the eye lens.
- The cornea of the eye may be damaged during surgery. As a result, you may need a corneal donor to treat it.
- The natural iris and surrounding area may become inflamed. This inflammation is not only very painful, but your vision will also become blurry as a result.
Tips
- You cannot permanently change the natural color of your eyes, except with surgery.
- Consider using an app that can change your eye color on a mobile device. You can purchase and download apps that allow you to change the eye color of people in photos stored on your device.
Warning
- Never leave contact lenses in your eyes for more than a day. This can lead to infection and blindness.
- Eye surgery can cause a variety of complications.
- If your eye color appears drastically lighter or darker, you should see a doctor immediately. Drastic changes in eye color such as from brown to blue can be a sign of something serious.
