A tutu skirt is a fun gift for kids, and cool in your own eyes. The good news is, it's simple and easy to make, no sewing needed at all.

Part 1 of 3: Preparing the Elastic Rubber
Step 1. Take your waist measurement
Ask the person who will be wearing it to stand still, with their back straight.
- Using a tape measure, measure from the waist to the foot to find out the length of your tutu skirt.
- Most tutu skirts measure about 28 cm to 58 cm from the waist.
Step 2. Cut the elastic
You will need an elastic band that is 10 cm shorter than your waist measurement.
- Glue the two ends of the rope together.
- Apply plenty of glue at that point to make sure the elastic sticks tightly.
- The elastic loop is now ready.
Step 3. Try the elastic on potential users
That way, you can make sure that the size is tight enough at the waist. Adjust if needed.
Part 2 of 3: Preparing the Tile
Step 1. Choose a tile
Tile fabrics come in a wide variety of colors and can be found at many fabric or craft supply stores. Look for tile that has a width of 15 cm, with the color of your choice.
Most tutu skirts only come in one color, but you can also use several different colors of tile
Step 2. Purchase more tiles than needed
It is better to have excess tile just in case something goes wrong or to make repairs.
- To make a child's tutu skirt, buy tiles that are at least 9m long.
- To make an adult tutu skirt, purchase tiles that are at least 14 m long.
Step 3. Cut the tiles
The length of the fabric depends on how long you want the skirt to be and how tall the person wearing it is. In general, you should take the length of the skirt and multiply it by two. Then, add 4 cm to that number to get the length of the piece. Make sure each piece is 7.5 cm wide.
- For example, if the length of the tutu skirt is 50 cm, cut the tile with a length of 105 cm and a width of 7.5 cm.
- It's also interesting to make the tutu skirt 7.5 to 10 cm longer than the planned length because once the skirt starts to expand, the skirt will look shorter. You can always shorten the skirt, but it's impossible to make it any longer after the tile is cut.
Step 4. Use cardboard to make it easier for you to cut the tile
Wrap the fabric over the cardboard strips and slip scissors under the tile loop, at each end of the cardboard, to cut the tile at both ends.
Remember, the width of the tile is now 15 cm, the right size for your skirt. If you want to use tile that has been cut, you just need to unroll the tile and cut it to the appropriate length
Step 5. Cut the edges of the tile in a pointed shape to add dimension
Sometimes, a tutu skirt that has a flat bottom can look boring.
Cut several fabrics at a time at an angle to speed up the process. Don't worry about the edges that need to be trimmed, because later you will add additional texture to the tutu skirt
Part 3 of 3: Making a Tutu Skirt
Step 1. Attach the tile to the elastic using glue
The trick, slip the elastic between the folds of the tile. Then, glue the two layers of tile with glue just below the elastic with a glue stick or hot glue.
Repeat this process for all the tiles until the circle is finished wrapping
Step 2. Tie the tile to the elastic
If you don't have a glue stick or hot glue, you can tie knots with one piece of tile on the elastic.
- Take a piece of tile and fold it in half. Wrap the round end around the elastic and pull the other end up, then thread it into the loop. Pull the tile cloth firmly to secure it to the elastic.
- Repeat this bond until all the elastic is wrapped in the tile. Make sure you gradually push the knots around the elastic together so that when the elastic stretches, there are no gaps in the tile.
- Feel free to combine and adjust the layers of the color of the tile on the elastic for a unique look.
Step 3. Check the skirt size
Wear a tutu skirt to make sure the length is right and comfortable for moving or dancing.
Step 4. Add finishing touches like ribbons or flowers to the tutu skirt
Add the ribbon by tying it or gluing it to an elastic band. If you want to add buttons, flowers, or other sticky decorations, simply attach them to the tutu skirt or elastic with safety pins.
