Millions of people use the very popular social networking site Twitter, which may include your friends, family, coworkers, etc. Finding people you want to follow is easy. This is the first step to take after you create an account.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Searching for Specific People
Step 1. Go to and log into your account
If you haven't created an account yet, check out our great article on how to join Twitter.
Step 2. Know the person's name or username (username)
Twitter offers two ways to identify an account, namely by username and real name. Usernames are marked with the '@' symbol. The real name is the actual name of the person you are looking for.
If the person you're looking for has a common name, it's more efficient to know their username. Usernames are unique and no username is the same for every user, whereas real names can be the same as other people
Step 3. Use the search field
Type in the username or real name of the person you want to follow in the search field on Twitter. This search field is in the upper-right corner of the window, to the left of your profile picture. Type a name or username, then click the magnifying glass icon to perform a search. You will see 6 different options for detailing the search results.
-
Top:
This selection is a composite of the most popular accounts, tweets, photos and videos included in the search keywords you entered.
-
Lives:
This option displays livestream tweets that match your search keywords. For example, if you search for "Bill Clinton," the search results will show you the latest tweets, photos, or videos about Bill Clinton.
-
Accounts:
This option will display a list of accounts that match your search keywords based on their real names. The most popular accounts will be in first place. If you're looking for a celebrity, like Hugh Jackman, the accounts that will appear first are usually the actual accounts. However, if you are looking for a friend named Budi Santoso, you may have to browse through the many accounts that appear in the search results to find the right Budi Santoso. Therefore, we recommend that you do a search using @username.
-
Photos:
This option displays a list of photos related to your search keyword.
-
Videos:
This option displays a list of videos related to your search keyword.
-
More Options:
You can use this option to narrow your search by location or by the people you follow.
Step 4. Type the username of the person you want to search into the URL field
The most efficient way to find someone's Twitter page is if you know their username. Add "/username" without the quotes after www.twitter.com to be redirected to the user's feed with the username entered. For example, if you want to visit Bill Clinton's page, add his username (@billclinton) to twitter.com. The URL displayed will look like this:
Step 5. Find a celebrity
Celebrities don't always use their real names on Twitter. Sometimes, their real name is already used by someone else. If this is the case, the best way to find them is to type in their username. Look for their correct username on the internet.
Verified accounts also have a check mark next to their name
Method 2 of 2: Finding Friends
Step 1. Search by email (email)
After searching for someone, click the "Find Friends" link on the left side of the page, under "Who to Follow". You can search for email contacts using Twitter, and you will be linked to that person's page so you can follow them. Sign in to your email account (Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, Outlook, AOL Mail), and select the contact you want to follow.
You can sign in to an email account that you no longer use to create an account. Signing in and importing email contacts can also help Twitter to suggest people you can follow
Step 2. Search for suggestions provided by Twitter
Twitter can provide high-quality suggestions of people you should follow based on your browser history, email contacts, Facebook friends, and other sources. Once you've searched for someone, click the "View All" link next to "Who to Follow" on the left side of the Twitter webpage. Or, just visit this link: Click the name of the user you want to view their profile for or to follow them.
Tips
- Many of the steps above can be applied to finding business and celebrity accounts that you can follow.
- Maybe you will find it difficult to find a real account belonging to a celebrity. If the celebrity is famous enough, Twitter will put a tick next to the profile name of the celebrity's real account.
