While unseasoned boiled chicken may sound unsavory, your dog will love this dish. Boiled chicken is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals that dogs need, and is easily digested by dogs with sensitive or sick stomachs. To prepare, you will need 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, water and a medium-sized saucepan. After boiling, give the meat to the dog as a snack or mix chicken with other foods for additional nutrition.
Ingredients
Boiled Chicken
- 3 pieces boneless and skinless chicken breast
- Enough water to soak the chicken
Step
Method 1 of 2: Cooking Chicken Breast
Step 1. Place 3 boneless and skinless chicken breasts in a medium-sized saucepan
Spread the meat across the bottom of the pan so it doesn't pile up. If you don't have a pot large enough to hold the meat, use a large, covered pan.
Make sure the chicken is not frozen. Frozen meat will affect the cooking time and risk causing the meat to not cook evenly. If it's still frozen, let it sit in the fridge for a while before cooking it
Step 2. Fill the pot with water until the meat is completely submerged
Add about 7 cm or more of water to the pot to cover the meat. However, don't add too much water, as the foam can spill out during cooking. Allow 5 cm of space from the water to the mouth of the pot to avoid this.
Do not add any spices to the chicken as it can make your dog sick. Keep the chicken clean and mix it with other foods once it's cooked if you like
Step 3. Cover the pot and boil the chicken for 12 minutes over high heat
Let the water boil over high heat. Then, continue the cooking process for 12 minutes.
Remove one piece of chicken from the pot and chop it to determine its doneness. If the inside is still pink or chewy, put the meat back in and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes
Step 4. Place the cooked chicken on a plate and shred it into small pieces
Use a knife and fork, or two forks, to easily shred the meat. Make sure the pieces of meat are small enough to be safe for your pet to chew and swallow.
Keep in mind your dog's size when shredding chicken. Small dogs should be fed smaller cuts of meat than large dogs
Step 5. Let the chicken rest for 10-15 minutes
Let the meat sit on a plate until it is cool enough to touch. Once cool, you can give it to your dog as a snack or mix it with other foods.
You can speed up the cooling process of meat by placing it in the refrigerator for 5 minutes
Step 6. Store leftover meat in a closed container for 3-4 days
Place the remaining chicken in a glass or plastic container that can be tightly closed. Then, store in the refrigerator. You can give this meat to the dog for the next 3-4 days.
Alternatively, you can freeze and store boiled chicken in a sealed container for 2-6 months, then give it to your dog when he has an upset stomach. If that's the case, all you need to do is defrost the meat before giving it to the dog
Method 2 of 2: Giving Boiled Chicken to Dogs
Step 1. Give your dog plain boiled chicken as a snack
Use chicken as a dietary supplement for training or simply give it as a snack. However, set the portion correctly.
- If you're using boiled chicken as a training reward, feed your dog a piece of boiled meat after he's done something good.
- When using boiled chicken as a snack, adjust the portion according to the size of the dog's body. Think about how much dog food you usually give, then adjust the portion of chicken meat to be less than that portion.
Step 2. Mix the boiled chicken pieces with dog food for a delicious treat
Your dog will enjoy the added flavor of his food and get an extra protein intake. However, do not give too much food. Reduce the amount of dog food before mixing it with chicken.
- The portion given depends on the dog's weight and the intensity of the exercise he usually does.
- Try to divide food in a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio. If you usually give a cup (224 grams) of dog food for dinner, just give two-thirds a serving (149.3 grams) of dog food, then mix it with 1/3 cup (41.7 grams) of chicken. You can also give him cup (168 grams) of dog food and cup (31.25 grams) of chicken.
Step 3. Mix chicken pieces with white rice to cure stomach ache
Prepare a cup (180 grams) of white rice that you cook often – usually in a pot on the stove or in a rice cooker. After that, mix some of the chicken pieces into the rice and wait until the rice is cooked before giving it to your dog.
- The ratio of rice to chicken is usually 2:1 or 3:1. Mix 2 cups of white rice (200 grams) with a cup of boiled chicken (125 grams) or 3 cups of white rice (600 grams) with a cup of chicken meat (125 grams).
- To add extra flavor to the rice, use the broth made from boiled chicken to cook the rice. Don't use ready-to-use broth, as it can contain added ingredients, such as onions, that are harmful to dogs.
- In addition to white rice, you can use brown rice to add nutritional value to the food. Understand that brown rice is more difficult for dogs to digest. If your dog has a sensitive stomach or gets sick easily, give him plain white rice instead.
Step 4. Give canned pumpkin or yogurt as an additional supplement to the rice and chicken mixture
Use canned pumpkin or fat-free, unflavored yogurt to improve your dog's digestion. Pumpkin is rich in fiber and yogurt is a natural probiotic substance that dogs can easily digest. These two ingredients will also add to the wet texture of the dog food.
For cup (100 grams) of white rice and cup (31.25 grams) of chicken, add 1-2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) of yogurt or cup (56.25 grams) canned pumpkin. Mix all the ingredients and adjust the portion for your dog
Step 5. Give the dog boiled chicken 1-2 times a week
If your dog doesn't have digestive issues like stomach upset, don't give chicken more than twice a week. This will prevent your dog from being picky eaters or getting addicted to chicken.
