Ingredients
- 4 large sausages; if possible, choose sausages that have not been through the previous cooking process
- Ready-to-use pastry dough
- Tomato and mustard sauce (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten (optional)
Step
Step 1. Preheat the oven according to the instructions on the pastry pack
Most brands require you to preheat the oven to 190°C.
Step 2. Remove the pastry skin dough from the packaging
If using a ready-made pastry crust, make sure you first cut it into medium-sized triangles. Make sure the skin dough is neither too thick nor too thin (because there is a risk of crumbling during baking). Make sure the size of the pastry skin is also not too big because the dough will expand when baked.
Step 3. Cut the sausage into two equal parts
Place each part at the end of the pastry shell, then roll it until all parts of the sausage are covered with pastry skin. Since sausage rolls are generally served as a light snack, make sure you use the smaller sausages or split the larger sausages first.
Step 4. Arrange sausage rolls on a greased or buttered baking sheet
Make sure each dough is about 2.5 cm apart. so they don't stick together as they cook.
Step 5. Bake sausage rolls for 11-15 minutes or until pastry crust is crisp and golden brown
Step 6. Remove the pan from the oven and allow the sausage rolls to cool before serving
Voila, delicious sausage rolls are ready for you to eat!
Tips
- If the inside of the pastry isn't crispy enough, bake the sausage rolls again for another two minutes or until the texture is to your liking. Make sure the sausage rolls are perfectly cooked, but don't bake them too long until they are charred.
- You can also use cooked, ready-to-eat sausages.
- If the pastry is not yet golden brown, increase the baking time.
- Use whatever sausage suits your taste; if you want, you can even use canned sausage.
- In America, sausages can also be rolled in biscuit dough (using the Bisquick brand, for example) instead of croissant dough.
- If you want, you can season the sausage skin dough rolls.
- To make sure the pastry crust adheres perfectly to the sausage, try spreading a little beaten egg on your sausage before rolling it in the pastry shell.
- Cool sausage rolls before serving.
Warning
- Don't eat uncooked sausage rolls!
- If the sausage rolls are still not cooked by the recommended time, you can bake them longer. But make sure you keep an eye on the process so the sausage rolls don't end up burning.
