This wikiHow teaches you how to import sample sounds, such as instruments or effects, into FL Studio. If you don't have a sample sound, you can download it from the FL Studio developer site.

Method 1 of 2: Importing Sample Sounds
Step 1. Click the black icon with the orange carrot image to open FL Studio
If you don't have a sample sound, you can purchase one on the FL Studio developer site
Step 2. Click the OPTIONS tab in the upper left corner of the FL Studio window
Step 3. Click the General settings option near the top of the OPTIONS menu
Step 4. Click the File tab at the top of the Settings window
Step 5. Click the empty folder icon under "Browse extra search folders"
It's in the left-hand side of the window. After clicking the icon, you will see a file explorer. Use the file explorer to select a folder containing sound samples.
Step 6. Click the folder where you saved the sample sound
You may need to open several folders in the file explorer before reaching them.
For example, if you are using Windows and put the sample sound in the Documents folder, you may need to click Desktop, then Documents, before being able to select a folder containing sound samples.
Step 7. Click the OK button at the bottom of the file explorer window to import the selected folder
You'll see a location with the same name as the location you imported in the options column on the left side of the FL Studio window. When composing music, access samples of the sounds you have in this column.
Method 2 of 2: Downloading FL Studio Sound Samples
Step 1. Visit the FL Studio developer site at
After clicking on the link, you will be directed to the main page of the Image Line website.
- If you are not logged in to your FL Studio account, log in by clicking on the option SIGN IN in the top right corner of the page. Enter your account email address and password to continue.
- If you haven't purchased FL Studio from Image Line, you can't download free sound samples.
Step 2. Click the CONTENT tab near the top of the page
Step 3. Click the Samples button to the right of the "Type" option, near the top of the page
Step 4. Select the sample sound you want to download
If you don't want to buy sound samples, find samples with the button FREE SELECTION in the lower right corner of the box.
If you want to pay, you can access all the sample sounds on this page
Step 5. Click the FREE SELECTION button below the sample you want
The sample will start downloading to your computer. Certain browsers may require you to select a download location.
You can also click ADD TO CART to put the paid version sound samples to the shopping cart. When you're ready to pay, click the shopping cart link to the left of your name, at the top right of the window. Enter the required payment details, then click CHECK OUT.
Step 6. Wait for the download to complete
Once the sample sound is downloaded, you can import it into FL Studio with the steps described at the top of the article.
