This wikiHow teaches you how to create an Xbox Live account. This account allows you to play games online, and record your in-game achievements.

Method 1 of 3: Using the Xbox Live Site
Step 1. Visit the Xbox Live website at
Through the Xbox Live site, you can create a new account.
Step 2. Click the {button|Sign in}} in the top right corner of the page
Step 3. Click the Create one link at the bottom of the Password field
This link is in the middle of the page.
If you have a Microsoft account, you can use that account as an Xbox account. After you sign in to Xbox Live with a Microsoft account, the system creates an Xbox Live profile. You will be redirected to the User Agreement page
Step 4. Enter the email address you never used to create an Xbox Live account
If the system detects an account with that address, you will be asked to enter another address.
Step 5. Enter your desired password
Step 6. Click Next at the bottom of the page
You will be asked to enter a code.
Step 7. Verify the email address
After registering an account, you will receive an email from Microsoft. Open the email, and find the 7 numbers in the body of the email. Enter the code in the field provided on the Xbox Live website.
- If you don't receive a verification email after signing up, check the Spam box.
- If you created a new email account for Xbox Live, you don't need to verify.
Step 8. Click Submit to verify your email address
Step 9. Enter the following personal information on the next page:
- First name
- Date of birth
- Currently inhabited area
Step 10. Under the Region column, click Next
Step 11. Click I Accept at the bottom of the page to create an Xbox Live account
The account you create can be used on the Xbox Live site, as well as on Xbox One/360 consoles.
If you want to edit certain information on your profile (such as your profile photo or username), click Customize Profile under the Microsoft-assigned username
Method 2 of 3: Using Xbox One
Step 1. Turn on your Xbox One by pressing the Xbox button on the right side of the console
To turn on your Xbox One, you can also press the Xbox button in the center of the controller. Before turning on the Xbox, make sure the controller is connected to the Xbox
Step 2. Open the sidebar by pointing the left analog stick to the left of the home screen
Step 3. Select the Sign in menu at the top left corner of the screen, then press A to open the user menu
Step 4. Select the Add new menu, then press A
If there are other users registered on the Xbox One, swipe the menu to the left.
Step 5. Press B to select an option other than the text box
Step 6. Select the Get a new account option at the bottom of the screen, then press A
Step 7. Enter the email address you never used to create an Xbox Live account
Step 8. Press A to save the email address
Step 9. Press the button near the center of the controller
Step 10. Enter your first name, then press to save it
Step 11. Enter your last name, then press to save it
Step 12. Enter your desired password twice, and press each time you finish entering the password
Step 13. Enter your date of birth
Step 14. Select the Next option at the top right of the screen, then press A
Step 15. Enter your phone number, then press
This phone number is used to secure your account. If you don't remember your password, you can reset your account password by entering your mobile number.
Step 16. Select I accept and press A to complete the account creation process
Now, your Xbox Live account can be used on Xbox One.
Method 3 of 3: Using Xbox 360
Step 1. Turn on your Xbox One by pressing the power button on the right side of the console, or holding down the "X" button on the controller connected to the console
Then, wait for the console to turn on.
Step 2. Scroll to the Social tab by pressing the RB button
Step 3. Select the Sign In or Out option at the bottom of the screen, then press A
Step 4. Select the Create Profile option in the right corner of the menu, then press A
Step 5. Select a save location, then press A
In addition to showing the Xbox internal storage media, the screen will also show the connected external storage media.
Step 6. Enter your username, then press in the center of the Xbox controller
Step 7. Select an avatar, then press A
Step 8. Select the Save and Exit option in the right corner of the menu, then press A
If you wish, you can customize your avatar on this screen
Step 9. Press the "X" (Xbox) button in the center of the controller
Step 10. Select the Join Xbox Live option at the bottom of the menu, then press A
Step 11. Press A
The Welcome to Xbox Live screen will appear.
Step 12. Press A again to start the Xbox Live account creation process
Step 13. Enter your first and last name, then press to save it to your account
Step 14. Enter an email address that must end in @outlook.com, then press
Step 15. Enter your desired password twice, and press each time you finish entering the password
Step 16. Enter the secret question, then press A
This question will be asked when you lose your password or cannot log in to your account.
Step 17. Enter the answer to your secret question, then press
Step 18. Enter your date of birth
Step 19. Select Done, then press A
The information you enter will be saved to the server. You will be asked to double check your account information before completing the account creation process.
Step 20. Press A
Now, your Xbox Live account can be used on Xbox 360 or Xbox One.
