This wikiHow teaches you how to download games to your PSP. The console can run PSP and PS1 games. To download PSP games, you'll need to make sure your console is running the latest firmware. Part 1 of 3: Preparing the PSP
Step 1. Update PSP firmware
Before starting, make sure your PSP is running the latest firmware version 6.61. If the console can connect to the internet, you can update it via the internet by selecting “ System Update " on the menu " Settings " Otherwise, follow these steps to update the PSP firmware:
- Download the latest firmware version to your computer.

Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable or insert a Memory Stick Duo.
- If your computer doesn't have a memory card reader, you can use an external card reader or provide a Memory Stick Duo micro SD card adapter to use with your PSP, and a micro USB SD card adapter for your computer.

- Open the " PSP " folder on the internal storage space of your PSP or Memory Stick Duo.
- Open the " GAME " folder in the " PSP " folder.
- Create a new folder named " UPDATE ".
- Remove the PSP from the computer or reinsert the Memory Stick Duo into the console.
- Select the “Game” menu from the PSP home screen (XMB).
- Select the “Memory Stick” option on the “ Games ”.
- Choose " File Updates ”.
Step 2. Install the customized firmware on the PSP
Apart from installing the latest firmware, you will also need to download the firmware specifically for your PSP with firmware version 6.61. Follow these steps to install the customized firmware on the console:

- Scroll down and click the link " Download the PSP 6.61 PRO-C2 custom firmware ”.
- Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable or insert the Memory Stick Duo into a card reader or USB adapter.
- Open the " PSP " folder on the internal storage space of your PSP or Memory Stick Duo.
- Open the " GAME " folder in the " PSP " folder.
- Extract the contents of the special firmware folder “PSP 6.61 Pro” and copy it to the “Games” folder.
- Remove the PSP from the computer or reinsert the Memory Stick Duo into the console.
- Select the “Game” menu on the PSP home screen (XMB).
- Run the "Pro Update" application on the "Game" menu.
- Restart the console.
Step 3. Run “Fast Recovery” from “Game” menu
You will need to do this every time you restart the console to re-enable the customization firmware.
Part 2 of 3: Finding Download Sources
Step 1. Look for websites that offer ISO files for PSP
An ISO file is a disc image used by PSP games. There are many websites that will allow you to download PSP ISO files. You can use the keyword PSP ISOs on Google to find websites that offer downloadable ISO files.
- Some of the websites you can visit include Emuparadise, Free Roms, or Roms Mania.
- Warning: Some game sites and free ROMs are known to be "hotbeds" of viruses and malware. Make sure that you have an antivirus program installed on your computer and that it is running the latest version before downloading the PSP ISO or ROM file to your computer. Run a virus scan after you download the game.
Step 2. Search for the game you want to download
Some websites offer a list of letters that you can click on to scroll through the game alphabetically. You can also use the search bar to search for games by name.
Step 3. Download the game ISO file
After selecting the game you want to download, click on the title of the game. After that, click on the download link. You may be able to specify a specific download source or mirror (a “backup” source). If so, click on the desired source or link and wait for the file to download.
Some games are divided into 3-4 parts, depending on the size. If your chosen game is divided into sections, you will need to download all the required sections
Part 3 of 3: Moving the ISO File to the Console
Step 1. Connect your PSP or Memory Stick Duo to the computer
Connect the console to the computer using a USB cable, or the Memory Stick Duo to the computer with a card reader drive or USB adapter.
Step 2. Create a new folder named " ISO " on the Memory Stick Duo or PSP internal storage space
This folder will be the destination for copying the PSP games you have downloaded.
Step 3. Extract the PSP game RAR file on the computer
When downloading PSP games, usually the files are downloaded in RAR format. This file contains the game ISO file. You will need a program like WinZip or WinRAR to extract the contents of the RAR file.

Step 4. Copy the ISO file to the "ISO" folder on the PSP's internal storage space or Memory Stick Duo
When finished extracting the ISO file, copy the file to the “ISO” folder on the PSP's internal storage space or Memory Stick Duo.
- If your game has a lot of ISO files, you'll need to copy them all to that folder.
- If you downloaded PS 1 games, you will need to copy the game files to the “PSP” folder on the PSP or Memory Stick Duo internal storage space, not the “ISO” folder.
Step 5. Remove the PSP from the computer or reinsert the Memory Stick Duo into the console
When you have finished copying the ISO file to the “ISO” folder, remove the console from the computer or remove the Memory Stick Duo and reinsert it into the console.
Step 6. Select the "Games" menu on the PSP
Use “XMB” to select the “Game” menu.
Step 7. Select the “Memory Stick” option
This folder contains all the games that you have attached to the Memory Stick Duo.
Step 8. Select the downloaded game to open it
If installed properly, the game will be displayed on the game list. You can open it, just as you would any other game on the console.
Tips
If a 100 MB file is estimated to finish downloading in 1 hour, a 212 MB file can be downloaded in about 2 hours
Warning
- Some files take a long time to download. Sometimes a 100 MB file can take 1 hour to download.
- Some of the files you download may contain viruses. Always scan files using an antivirus program.
