In Pokémon Fire Red, you must acquire Ruby and Sapphire in order to link the game with Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Getting Ruby is pretty easy, but to get Sapphire, you have to wander all over Sevii Island. Once you have Ruby and Sapphire, you can trade Pokémon from the Hoenn region for Pokémon Fire Red.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Getting Ruby
Step 1. Defeat the Elite Four
To get Ruby and Sapphire to connect with the Hoenn region, you must complete the main storyline by defeating the Elite Four. To do so, you'll need all of your Gym Badges and a strong team of Pokémon (level 60 and up). Check out this guide for helpful tips for beating the Elite Four.
Step 2. Complete the National Pokédex
Another requirement that must be met before getting Ruby and Sapphire is getting the National Pokédex. This means you should already have a record of 60 different Pokémon species in the Pokédex. Once you've encountered at least 60 different types of Pokémon, talk to Professor Oak for a National Pokédex. With Pokédex National, Pokémon from the Hoenn region will start appearing in the game.
Step 3. Take the ferry from Vermilion City to One (Knot) Island
To get Sapphire, you have to get Ruby first. Talk to Bill at the Cinnabar Island Pokémon Center to talk about a visit to Sevii Island if you haven't already, then take the ferry from Vermilion City to One Island.
Step 4. Talk to Celio to find out about Ruby
Find Celio at the Pokémon Center and talk about his machine. He'll tell you he needs a Ruby and give you a ticket to go to the first three islands of Sevii Island (if you haven't got one before).
If you haven't picked up Meteorite from Two Island, you'll need to complete the mission first
Step 5. Find your way to Mt
Bucket. You can find Ruby on Mt. Ember, which is on the same island. Make sure that you have one Pokémon that has the Strength skill and another that has the Rock Smash skill.
Step 6. Find out the first part of the Team Rocket password
Inadvertently, you'll hear two Team Rocket members talking about bringing the treasure back to the Rocket Warehouse. You'll notice that a password is required to log into the Rocket Warehouse, and a Team Rocket member will accidentally mention the first part of the password, which is: "Goldeen need log". Go into the cave after they leave.
Step 7. Select the Ruby Path path
Find the path to reach B5F at the bottom of the cave to find Ruby. You can find your way down at the southwest corner of B3F. You'll find Ruby in the middle of room B5F.
Step 8. Take the Ruby and return it to Celio
Exit B3F to get back to Celio quickly. It will tell you that there are other gemstones needed for the machine to work and give you a ticket to access all the islands on Sevii Island.
Part 2 of 2: Finding Sapphire
Step 1. Go to Four (Floe) Island
On your way to find Sapphire, you'll need to stop at Four Island. Here, you will find information about the location of the Rocket Warehouse. As you approach Four Island, you'll see your rivals on the beach mocking you.
Step 2. Find your way through the Icefall Cave
The entrance to the cave can be found in the northeast corner of the island. At first, you need Rock Smash to access the island. When you enter the Icefall Cave, be careful of the thin ice floor. If you step on it twice, you will fall to the ground floor.
- Drop yourself on purpose on the icy floor to the north of the first floor of the cave.
- Climb up the ladder, then accidentally fall again on the thin icy floor to the east of the new area.
- Slide down through the ice floor, then climb the ladder. After climbing the ladder, plop down on the thin icy floor to the south.
- Slide up, to the right, then down, and fall onto the thin ice floor again. Get the Waterfall skill and teach it to one of your Pokémon.
- Climb the waterfall in the previous cave with your new Waterfall skill, then descend the stairs to find Lorelai.
Step 3. Help Lorelai to defeat Rocket Grunt
Fight Rocket Grunt with Lorelai, then you'll get information that the Rocket Warehouse is on Five Island. Unfortunately, you still only have the first part of the required password.
Step 4. Visit Six (Fortune) Island, then find the Dotted Hole
You can find the entrance to the Dotted Hole in the Ruin Valley on the south side of the island. To get into the Dotte Hole, you must use the Cut in front of the door.
Step 5. Solve the Dotted Hole puzzle
The Braille letters in the Dotted Hole will tell you which direction to take, or you can read the answer here. Drop yourself into the hole when you enter the Dotted Hole for the first time.
- Braille will show you the direction you should go.
- To complete the puzzle, go up → left → right → down.
Step 6. Try to pick up Sapphire and find out about the second Rocket Warehouse password
After completing the puzzle, you will find Sapphire in the middle of the room. When you try to pick it up, Team Rocket will steal it from you. In the midst of the commotion, you'll get information about the second part of the Rocket Warehose password: Find out about the second Rocket Warehouse password.
Step 7. Go to Five (Chrono) Island
Five Island is where the Rocket Warehouse is located, and now that you have two parts of the password, you can go inside and get Sapphire back.
Step 8. Enter the Rocket Warehouse
The Rocket Warehouse is located close to the city, and in it you have to go through a maze of conveyor belts. The mazes aren't really that difficult, and actually all of the paths in the maze are worth traversing so you can pick up objects and battle the Pokémon trainers.
Step 9. Get Sapphire from Gideon
After making it through all of Team Rocket Admin, you can finally face Gideon. After defeating Gideon's five Pokémon, he will give you Sapphire, and you can bring it back for Celio on One Island. This way, you can trade Pokémon from the games Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.
