You can use a bandana that is generally square in shape and has a paisley pattern to prevent hair from hitting your face. Not only that, there are many ways to fold colorful bandanas as accessories for your dress. Some bandanas have even more creative patterns and feature a band or something else you enjoy. Whatever your reason for wearing a bandana, properly folding and tying your bandana is a big step.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Making a Top Banded Bandana
Step 1. Fold the bandana into a triangle
Place the bandana flat on the table. A square-shaped bandana works best for this style. Place it in a diamond shape, and fold it in half to form a triangle.
Step 2. Make a long sheet of your bandana
Fold from the triangular base and roll into a 2.5-5cm wide sheet toward the top of the triangle. Press gently each time you fold the bandana so it doesn't change shape easily.
Step 3. Tie the bandana
To make a simple bandana tie, place the center of the long bandana on your forehead. Tie the ends around your head, making two knots to keep them in position.
Step 4. Make a ribbon knot at the top of the head
Or, place the center of the bandana in the middle of the hairline at the nape of the neck. Slide your hands toward the edges of the bandana, then pull them over your head. Make a double knot at the top of the head. Take the short end sticking out of the knot and unfold the bandana to make a ribbon.
Lower your head if you want to let your hair down. After pulling the corners of the bandana at the top of your head, lower your head so you can see the knot
Step 5. Keep the bandana in place
If you want the tape not to lie directly above your head, now is the time to slide it. You just need to hold the bandana knot with one hand and the center of the bandana with the other, then slide it to where you like it. Tuck the bobby pin near your ear and in the knot of the bandana to prevent it from sliding further.
Method 2 of 4: Folding the Bandana to Cover the Head
Step 1. Fold one corner of the bandana
Lay down the bandana. You'll need a square bandana to make folds like this. Take the corner closest to you (the bottom corner of the bandana) and fold it up so that it touches the center of the bandana.
If your bandana is smaller, make smaller folds--not necessarily reaching the center of the bandana. That way, the sheet of cloth that can cover your head is wider
Step 2. Attach the bandana to your head
Grasp the two folds of your bandana, then place it over your forehead. Make sure the small part of the bandana you fold is on the inside. Slide your hands over both ends of the bandana, and pull it behind your head. The top corner of the bandana will be above your head.
You may be able to bend over to make this step easier
Step 3. Tie your bandana
Make a single knot with both corners of the bandana behind your head. Tie it tightly so it doesn't slide around easily. Just be careful not to tie it too tightly, because it will feel uncomfortable.
Step 4. Flip the top corner of the bandana and tie it tightly
Place one hand on top of the knot you made. Bring the top end of the bandana over your head near the knot. Lay it over the knot you made, and use the side corners of the bandana to make a single knot once more over this sheet. This knot will keep the top corner of the bandana in the middle of the bandana's double knot.
Step 5. Adjust if necessary
You can grab the front of the bandana and pull the knot to make it looser. To tighten it, pull it with both your hands as tightly as possible. If the end of the bandana is still long enough, tie it again to shorten it.
Method 3 of 4: Making a Ponytail Tie Accessory
Step 1. Tie your hair into a ponytail
You must style your hair before putting on the bandana. Pull your hair back in a ponytail to your desired height and secure it with a hair band. If you style this bangs forward, do it before putting on the bandana.
Step 2. Make a thin sheet with your bandana
Lay your bandana flat. You can use a square or rectangular bandana for this style. If you have a square bandana, fold it in half to form a triangle. If you have a rectangular bandana, fold it lengthwise in half. Make a thin fold 2.5 cm wide from the base of the bandana.
Step 3. Wrap the bandana into your ponytail
Lift your ponytail above your head. Place the center of the bandana fold on the elastic under your hair. Slide your hands over the ends of the bandana and lift the bandana over your head. As you pull the ends up, return your ponytail to its previous position.
Step 4. Tie your bandana
Take one end, tuck it under the other, and tie a knot. Make the knot again if you feel the first knot isn't strong enough. Let the side of the bandana hang down next to the ponytail. Loosen the ties if you want to show off your bandana. Loosen your hair around the bandana with your fingers for a more natural look.
Method 4 of 4: Tie a Bandana around the Neck
Step 1. Use a bandana as a scarf around the neck
You can use this method to make a bandana a unique accessory to your outfit. You can tie it with an ascot knot as a clothing accessory.
Step 2. Put the bandana around your neck
Take two opposite corners of the bandana and hold them in one hand. Pull the bandana tightly and wrap it around your neck, letting the front ends hang down.
Step 3. Tie and secure the bandana knot
Double fold one end of the bandana to the opposite side. In the second fold, bring the ends through the loop of the bandana around your neck. Also, loosen the ends too, so that once pulled through the loop around the neck, it will look like an ascot knot.
