Are your favorite Converse All Stars shoes dirty? Do not worry! You can clean Converse shoes with a household cleaning tool. Your Converse shoes will look like new again.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Preparation
Step 1. Prepare the cleaning tool
It doesn't matter whether you want to deep clean your Converse shoes until they look brand new again or just clean minor stains, you can clean Converse shoes with a simple household cleaning tool.
- Prepare a stain remover, detergent, 3% hydrogen peroxide liquid, and a stain remover sponge to remove dirt and stains.
- You can use a washcloth to scrub and open the shoes.
- Make sure the cleaning fluid you use is bleach-free, even if your All Stars shoes are white. Avoid chemicals that can damage the color of your shoes.
Step 2. Prepare a clean washcloth, then mix a mild detergent and water
Fill a bucket with warm water and add detergent until the foam is visible.
- If you don't have a bucket ready to use, you can also wash in the sink or tub.
- Add hydrogen peroxide for even more washing power.
Step 3. Remove the shoelaces
The laces are easiest to clean apart from the shoes. In addition, washing shoe tongues and eyelets is also easier.
Meanwhile, first place your shoelaces on a dry towel or cloth
Step 4. Let the mud or dirt on your shoes dry first
If your shoes were recently soiled and there is still wet mud stuck to them, let the mud dry first so you can clean them more easily. Removing dry mud from cloth is easier than removing wet mud.
- If you soak or brush your shoes that are still covered in wet mud, you will actually rub the wet mud onto the canvas fabric of your shoes and make them even more difficult to clean.
- Pound your shoes against each other to get the mud off.
- You can also use a toothbrush or regular brush to remove dry mud from your shoes.
Step 5. Fill the washer with cloth or clothing that is a similar color to your shoes
It's a good idea to wash your shoes together with cloth or clothes that are the same color as your shoes to prevent them from being tossed around in the washing machine, while protecting your washing machine.
- Avoid filling the washing machine with so many clothes that your shoes don't even clean.
- Use cloth or clothes that are not used in case the cloth or clothes have problems due to the washing process.
Part 2 of 2: Cleaning Converse All Stars Shoes
Step 1. Soak your All Stars shoes in the detergent water mixture
Leave your shoes in the detergent water for a few minutes to allow the hydrogen peroxide and soap to soak into the fabric. Once your shoes have finished soaking, place them on a clean towel.
- Your shoes are made of canvas, which is a type of cotton, so you don't have to worry about soaking your shoes.
- If your shoes are dirty with bicycle oil, add a little baby powder or an alcoholic hair spray, and let dry before soaking.
Step 2. Dip a washcloth in detergent water and rub the fabric part of your shoe
Start by scrubbing the lighter stains. If the washcloth doesn't remove the stain, replace it with a toothbrush or regular brush.
- Rub in circular motions to reach deeper parts of the fabric.
- To make it even cleaner, use a stain remover stick on areas of your shoes where dirt is difficult to remove. Its use is the same as cleaning clothes or pants.
- To remove stains, you can also use a stain remover sponge on the canvas and rubber of your shoes.
Step 3. Rub the rubber part of your shoe
You may not be able to completely clean the rubber, depending on how long the shoes you are washing have worn and how much shrinkage has been due to use.
- If you have stubborn stains, where the rubber appears scratched and stained with what looks like bicycle oil, use a toothbrush dipped in a mixture of water and baking soda. Brush where the stubborn stain is.
- Be careful with the rubber stripe that goes around the bottom of the shoe. If you brush too hard, the rubber line may come off.
Step 4. Put your laces in a bottle of stain remover
You can clean your shoes by soaking them, but doing so will damage the plastic-covered ends of the laces. If the plastic part is missing, tying your shoelaces will be difficult. To keep the plastic intact, put your shoelaces in a bottle of stain remover and leave the ends on the outside of the bottle, then close the bottle.
- Leave the shoelaces for a minute. Then shake the bottle for half a minute.
- Be careful that the bottle cap will not seal the bottle tightly and there may be liquid leaking.
- After soaking and shaking, remove your laces and then clean again to remove any stains that may remain. Then dry.
Step 5. Put the shoes in the washing machine
Although you don't have to, it is recommended that you put your shoes in a laundry bag (laundry bag). This bag will protect your shoes from being tossed around and damaging the washing machine.
- Cover your shoes with cloth or other clothing for an added layer of protection.
- Set your washing machine on the gentle setting and use cold water to prevent it from smudging.
Step 6. Dry the shoes
It is better to dry indoors so that the color of your shoes is not damaged due to exposure to too strong sunlight. Find a bright, warm, dry place to dry your shoes.
- You may have to reshape your shoes after washing them in the washing machine. Bend the canvas and rubber slightly to shape your shoe back into its normal shape.
- Make sure you place your shoes on a flat surface.
Step 7. Enjoy your clean Converse shoes
Tips
- The rubber parts of your shoes can also be cleaned with a damp toothbrush dipped in a little toothpaste. Just a soft brush. If you don't want the toothpaste to get on the canvas, cover the canvas with toilet paper or masking tape, as if you were painting.
- If your shoe has ink stains on the rubber, remove it with acetone.
- You don't have to wash your shoes in the washing machine if the stain is light or you don't mind if your shoes are a little dirty.
- When washing, use detergent. Detergent is a stronger type of soap and will remove old stains.
Warning
- If you wash your Converse shoes in the washing machine, the dark or light colors may lose intensity.
- Washing the Converse in the washing machine can also loosen the rubber from the canvas of your shoes.
- Be careful when using markers. Permanent marker ink stains, cannot be erased.
- Do not dry your shoes in the dryer or in front of a heater. The temperature will damage your shoes and melt the rubber.
