Converse shoes get dirty and scratched easily, but they're also easy to clean. Cleaning the stain by hand will remove any visible stains. However, if you want to completely clean your shoes, you can wash them in the washing machine. In this article, there are several ways you can do to clean your Converse shoes from stubborn stains.

Method 1 of 3: Cleaning Stains
Step 1. Make the cleaning fluid
Detergent is suitable for cleaning stains and dirt because Converse shoes are made of canvas. Mix 1/4 cup of detergent with 2 cups of warm water in a bowl. If the shoes are full of mud, prepare cleaning fluid in two containers for each shoe. In addition to detergent, you can also use:
- Dish soap
- Shampoo
- Bath soap
- Glass cleaner
Step 2. Fill a container with clean warm water
This will be the container in which you rinse the cleaning cloth.
Step 3. Dip a cleaning cloth in the cleaning liquid and clean the shoes
Rub the dirty part with a cloth to clean it from stains. Make sure the shoe canvas absorbs the soap. Periodically rinse the cleaning cloth in clean water, then dip it in the cleaning fluid and clean the shoes again.
- If necessary, remove the shoelaces and scrub with a cleaning cloth.
- You can use this method to clean the inside of the shoe.
Step 4. Rub the rubber and sole
Most stains will be removed easily if rubbed with a soapy cleaning cloth. For stubborn stains, use an old toothbrush to remove stuck dirt.
- Rub the sole of the shoe and the rubber area around the canvas.
- Focus on the toes, as these areas usually have more blemishes.
- Wipe the rubber part with a damp cloth if the stain isn't that stubborn.
Step 5. Wipe the shoes with a clean, damp cloth
Remove any remaining stains and soap that are still attached. Check the shoes again until you feel the shoes are clean. If the stain is still there, use another method to clean the shoe.
Step 6. Dry the shoes in the open
Stuff the shoes with newsprint or other solid object to keep them in shape. Place in a warm place with good air circulation to dry quickly. Dry the laces separately as it will take you longer to dry the laces. After everything is dry, attach the shoelaces and the shoes are ready to use.
- To speed drying, place the shoes in the sun. Be careful if the shoes are dark in color because sunlight can fade the color.
- You can also use a hairdryer to dry your shoes.
Method 2 of 3: Using the Washing Machine
Step 1. Remove shoelaces and inserts
This method is great for cleaning the entire inside and outside of the shoe. Your shoes will be cleaner if you clean the laces and inserts separately.
Step 2. Apply stain remover to the shoes
If your shoes have grass, oil, or food stains, clean them first with a stain remover. Use a clothes stain remover. Pour the stain remover onto the stain on the shoe and let it sit for a while before washing it off.
- If the shoe is a very light, intense color, try removing a hidden spot on the shoe (the tongue, for example) before pouring it over the stained area. If the color of the shoes fades, do not use them.
- Remove dirt and other dirt before washing your shoes. These stains and dirt can clog the washing machine.
Step 3. Place shoes, laces and inserts in a washable bag
You can use a tied cloth bag or pillowcase. This will protect the shoes and the washing machine from rocking.
Step 4. Wash the shoes with a gentle cycle
Use warm water to help clean the stain. Cold water can be used to preserve the color of the shoes. Do not use hot water because the glue will come off (in the long run).
- Use the same amount of detergent when you wash a small amount of clothes.
- Do not wash shoes with other clothes. Your shoes can damage the fabric of clothing (especially if the fabric is delicate).
Step 5. Dry the shoes in the open
Do not use a hairdryer to dry shoes. Hot air can damage shoe glue. Stuff your shoes with newsprint or other solid object and place them in a warm, well-ventilated area. Attach the inserts and laces after the shoes are dry.
Method 3 of 3: Tricks to Remove Stains
Step 1. Use a magic eraser to remove the stain
Magic Setip is a product that can remove stains effectively. You can use it to remove stains from the rubber part of your shoes. Use the magic trick if your regular stain remover isn't having the desired effect.
Step 2. Use baking powder and hydrogen peroxide
The mixture of the two is very effective as a cleaning fluid, especially white shoes. If your shoe is a different color, try it on the inside of the tongue first before using it on the outside, as this mixture can fade the color of the shoe. Here's how to use baking powder and hydrogen peroxide to clean your shoes:
- Make a paste with 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide, and 1/2 teaspoon of warm water.
- Dip an old toothbrush into the mixture and use it to scrub the stains off your shoes.
- Allow the paste to dry on the shoes for twenty minutes.
- Rinse the area with clean water. Repeat if necessary.
Step 3. Use rubbing alcohol
It works for ink smudges and minor scratches. Apply a cotton cloth to rubbing alcohol and gently wipe the area you want to clean. If the stain sticks to the cleaning cloth, keep cleaning until the stain is gone.
- If you want to remove nail polish, use a nail polish remover.
- If you want to remove paint, use a thinner (such as turpentine).
- Use toothpaste to remove small scratches.
Step 4. Whiten the shoes
This only applies to white Converse shoes. Don't try if the shoes are any color other than white! If the shoes are white, use bleach to remove stubborn stains. Do it in a ventilated room and wear old clothes to prevent them from getting dirty.
- Mix bleach and water in a 1:5 ratio.
- Use an old toothbrush to scrub the stain with bleach.

Tips
- Do not use a toothbrush that has been used to clean shoes to brush your teeth. Dirty.

- Do not use detergent because the shoes can be damaged.
