Minecraft tracks your location in its world using a coordinate system. These coordinates are hidden in the debug screen of the computer version of Minecraft. If you're playing on a console, you'll find it when you open the map. If you're playing Minecraft PE, you'll need to use a third-party app to find your coordinates because Minecraft PE doesn't have Maps and a debug screen.

Method 1 of 3: PC/Mac
Step 1. Enable full screen debugging
In the latest versions of Minecraft, reduced debug info is enabled from the start. You can enable full screen debugging from the Options menu.
Open the Options menu and select "Chat Settings." Disable "Reduced Debug Info."
Step 2. Press the Debug button
This will display the debug reading information for Minecraft. The lock key is usually F3, but this may vary depending on your computer:
- For PC desktops, press F3 to open the debug screen.
- For most laptops and Mac computers, you will need to press Fn+F3.
- For newer Mac computers, you need to press Alt+Fn+F3.
Step 3. Find the coordinates on the debug screen
You will see a lot of information regarding debug reading. Simple coordinates are labeled "Block" (block), while detailed coordinates are labeled "XYZ." You'll also see a "Facing" entry that tells you which direction you're facing.
Step 4. Interpret your coordinates
Location determination is based on the starting block of your Minecraft world. The "Block" entry displays three unlabeled (XYZ) coordinate numbers.
- "X" is your location east or west of the starting block (longitude).
- "Y" is where you are above or below the starting block (height).
- "Z" is your location north or south of the starting block (latitude).
Step 5. Move around to see the "Block" value change
This step will help you understand how the coordinate system works. If the value of "X" is negative, you are west of the starting block. If the "Z" value is negative, you are north of the starting block.
While you usually start at point X, Z: 0, 0 (unless the block is in the water), your initial Y location value is usually around 63, since this is sea level
Method 2 of 3: Console
Step 1. Open your map
In the console versions of Minecraft (Xbox, Playstation, Wii U), you can find the coordinates on the map. All players start by bringing a map with them when a new Minecraft world is created. Open your map in inventory.
Step 2. Find your coordinates
Your current location coordinates will appear at the top of the map when opened. There are three coordinates: X, Y, and Z.
Step 3. Interpret your coordinates
The coordinates are based on the block where you first appeared. "X" is longitude, your location is east or west of the starting block. Z is the latitude, your location to the north or south of the starting block. Y is your height from the bedrock.
- The coordinates of your starting block are usually X, Z: 0, 0. If 0, 0 is underwater, the starting block will be near that point.
- The initial Y-coordinate point will vary depending on the altitude at which you appear. The sea level elevation value is Y:63.
Step 4. Watch the coordinates change as you move
You can see real-time coordinate changes as you move through the Minecraft world. If the value of "X" is positive, you are east of the starting block location. If the "Z" value is positive, you are south of the starting block.
Method 3 of 3: Minecraft PE
Step 1. Activate cheats if you are playing in Survival mode
If you are playing in Creative mode, the cheat will be activated automatically and you can proceed directly to the next step. Meanwhile, to activate cheats in Survival mode:
- Open menu Worlds.
- Touch the pencil next to the world name.
- Slide the "Activate Cheats" switch to the On position (so it turns blue or green).
- A small screen will open and notify you that achievements will be disabled in that world if you continue. If this is not a problem for you, and because it is necessary to activate cheats, click Continue.
- Return to the location of the place where you want to see the coordinates.
Step 2. Touch the chat icon
This icon is a conversation bubble at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Type /tp ~ ~ ~ into the chat window and press Enter
Here's the command to take you to your current location, which is how you see your coordinates. These coordinates will appear in the lower left area of the screen.
Step 4. Interpret the coordinates
The three coordinates (in order) are X, Y, and Z.
- "X" is longitude. If the value is positive, you are on the east side of the starting block. If the value is negative, you are too west.
- "Y" is elevation, 63 is sea level, and 0 is bedrock.
- "Z" is latitude. If the value is positive, you are on the south side of the starting block. If the value is negative, you are on the north side of the starting block.
