This wikiHow teaches you how to restore old versions of Firefox on Windows and Mac computers. However, you cannot restore an old version of Firefox on your phone.
Step
Step 1. Visit the Firefox installation wizard page
On this page, you can find out how to download older versions of Firefox. Since the link to download older versions of Firefox is always changing, you'll need to access it via this page.
Step 2. Scroll down and find the "I still want to downgrade" section at the bottom of the page
Step 3. Click Directory of other versions and languages
This link is under Firefox's yellow warning box, in the "I still want to downgrade" section to be precise. You will see a list of available Firefox versions.
Step 4. Select a version on the list to access the Firefox download page for that version
For example, click 45.1.0esr/ to visit the Firefox 45.1.0 download page.
Step 5. Select your operating system folder
Since this download folder is not clearly labeled, here's how to find the appropriate folder:
- Windows - Find the "win32/" (32-bit version of Windows) or "win64/" (64-bit version of Windows) folder in the link. If you don't know the bit version of your Windows, check the bit version first
- Mac - Find the "mac/" folder on the link.
Step 6. Select the appropriate language folder for your area
You will see the language abbreviations and their regions on the download page. For example, to download Firefox in Indonesian, click the "id-ID/" folder.
Step 7. Click the download link to download the Firefox version you want to your computer
You may be asked to confirm the download or choose a location to save the file, depending on your browser settings
Step 8. Once the download is complete, double-click the Firefox installation file to start the installation process
The Windows version of Firefox's installation file is in the form of an application (EXE), while the Mac version's Firefox installation file is in the form of a DMG.
- If you are using OS X Sierra and above, you will need to allow the installation manually before proceeding.
- If you are using Windows, you may be prompted to click Extract All first to open the file. Click the button, then click the extracted folder and open the Firefox installation file.
Step 9. Select an add-on if prompted
You may be able to continue using the add-ons already installed in the new version of Firefox, depending on the version of Firefox you are using.
Step 10. Wait for Firefox to open
Once open, you can use the old version of Firefox as usual.
Tips
To ensure that older versions of Firefox are not automatically updated, turn off the automatic update feature. The process for disabling this feature varies depending on the version of Firefox you are using. However, generally you just need to click the tab Tools (or ☰ in new versions of Firefox), choose Options or Preferences, followed Advanced > Updates. In that option, clear the check box on Automatic Updates.
Warning
- Older versions of Firefox may have security vulnerabilities that have not been patched. These loopholes can be exploited by hackers to plant malware on your computer, steal personal information, and more. Be careful when using older versions of Firefox.
- When using older versions of Firefox, avoid suspicious sites, and use an antivirus on your computer.
- Sometimes, downgrading won't fix problems that occur after you update Firefox.
