Perhaps the bedroom is the most important room in your home. The bedroom is where you sleep, so it's important that the atmosphere is relaxed. The bedroom also needs to be arranged in a practical way so that you can move around in it when doing your daily routine. Creating a beautiful room without compromising your personal style is easy. Here are some suggestions that you can follow to arrange bedroom furniture in an attractive and functional way.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Planning the Decoration Scheme
Step 1. Understand the layout of the room
Before buying new furniture or trying to incorporate furniture into the bedroom, you should know how to arrange your room. The placement of the windows or the size of the walls will affect how you arrange your furniture. Some things to consider when examining a bedroom layout include:
- wall size. Use a tape measure to find out exactly what the area of the wall is.
- Placement of electrical plugs and telephone sockets. You'll need plugs to connect alarms, lights, televisions, and other devices.
- Cable input placement. You'll need to place the television where the cable or satellite connection is in the room, or you'll have to drill new holes and move the cable (this should be left to the satellite company or another trained professional).
- Window. Pay attention to which walls have windows, how low they are, and how many there are.
- Cabinets embedded in the wall (closet) and other doors. Look at which walls have doors, where are wall cabinets, and which walls are not disturbed by doors and windows.
Step 2. Measure your furniture
Decide what you want in the bedroom. Measure all the furniture and compare it to the dimensions of your bedroom. You should determine if the furniture will fit in the room before you start moving heavy furniture inside.
Step 3. Pay attention to the exit path
When you are planning a bedroom, think about the area around the door. You need to make sure the area is safe from distracting items. Don't plan on placing furniture in areas that will block the door; make sure the door has plenty of room to open.
Step 4. Make a list of the uses of your bedroom
Sleep is an obvious activity, but many people spend more time in their bedroom than sleeping. Will you be watching television or reading in the bedroom? Will you get dressed, make up, or do your hair in this room? Is your bedroom for one or two people? Is this your bedroom or guest bedroom? The answer to all of these will determine what furniture you need.
Step 5. Fill the room with appropriate sized furniture
Consider where you live. Do you live in a small apartment with small bedrooms, or do you have a spacious house with large, open rooms? A large bedroom set may not be practical for a small apartment, while a small table and bed may look odd in a larger space. Adjust your furniture to the scale of the bedroom and fit it into the space you have.
Step 6. Follow your personal style
Some people like the minimalist, modern design, while others like a more full and comfortable layout. Some people like plain walls, while others like lots of photos and pictures. Remember that the bedroom is your room. You need to arrange it to be functional, but you certainly want the bedroom to reflect personality, taste and comfort.
Part 2 of 2: Arrange the Furniture
Step 1. Start with the bed
Generally, the bed is the most important piece of furniture in the room, so the arrangement is the most important. One popular arrangement of beds is in the middle of the wall opposite the door. This makes the bed the focal point of the room. Another great option for a bed is along the longest wall.
- If you don't have enough room to place the bed in the middle of the wall opposite the door, or if a window or door gets in the way, you can place the bed further away from the center of the wall. You may also want to place the headboard at an angle where the two walls meet, but this will take up a lot of space.
- Another placement of the bed is between two windows, if you have two windows along one wall. You may need to rethink if you want to place the bed directly under the window, especially if you often leave the window open during the warmer months. This can cause uncomfortable airflow.
- Leave enough room around the bed so you can get to and get out of bed easily. If you're the only one using the bed, you can push it against the wall. If it's being used by two people, you need to leave enough space on either side of the bed so that both people can access it easily.
- Try not to block the head of the bed natural light.
Step 2. Consider the next dresser
For most people, the dresser is the second largest piece of furniture in the bedroom. Place the dresser directly opposite the bed to balance the room. If you have a lot of exposed walls, choose a dresser that is low and wide.
- If you enjoy watching TV, you can place the television on top of the dresser. The television must be opposite the bed if you plan to watch TV a lot in bed. Putting the television on top of the dresser means you don't need an extra table. If you don't like watching TV but still read a lot, then use a dresser for books.
- If your room is cramped, choose a tall vertical dresser instead of a flared one. This requires only a small amount of wall width by taking advantage of the height.
- You can choose to place the dresser under the window to maximize space.
- If your wall cabinets are quite large, or the space in the room is limited, you may consider placing the dressers in the wall cabinets.
Step 3. Place the nightstand near the bed
After placing the two large pieces of furniture, you can start filling the room with smaller pieces of furniture. Nightstands in particular are very important. This small table serves to put your alarm, lamp, books, TV remote, cell phone, water glass, and anything else you might have to grab while in bed. Nightstands should be placed on both sides of the bed (only on one side if your bed is against the wall). Buy a nightstand that reaches the height of your mattress.
Nightstands are available in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Consider what you need from the nightstand. Do you want shelves? Drawer? Just a small table area? Choose a nightstand that reflects your needs
Step 4. Determine if you have room for additional furniture
After placing the furniture, decide if there is room for other items. Also think about what else you need in the bedroom. Do you need a work desk? Do you want a chair to read and relax? Complete the arrangement of your bedroom by placing furniture that suits your needs.
- Place a work desk with a chair in the room. You can buy a flat workbench that fits along a bare wall or under a window, or you can buy a corner desk that fits in the corner of the room and doesn't interfere with walking.
- Place an ottoman at the foot of the bed for extra seating, or place a small armchair in the bedroom for guest seating, or for you to sit on when you relax.
- Put a mirror in the bedroom. The mirror can accompany the dressing table, placed on the desk, or simply hung on the wall.
- Add a bookshelf. If you need space for books, photos, and other items, place a bookshelf against an empty wall.
- Create a sitting area. In small rooms, this can be created with a small chair or bench. In a large bedroom, you can include an armchair or sofa for the sitting area.
Step 5. Use multiple lights in different areas of the room
You don't want bright lights when you're trying to relax, so consider placing a lamp where you'll be reading, watching television, or relaxing. Maybe you need to mount the light on the ceiling or on the wall.
Step 6. Consider double-duty furniture
If your bedroom is small, consider buying furniture that has two functions to save space. Try a bed and desk combination, which is a bunk bed with a desk underneath. Or try a bed and storage underneath if there's no room for a dresser.
Step 7. Leave some space around your furniture
Don't make your room so cluttered that there isn't enough space to walk through the room or into another room. Leave at least half a meter between the side of the bed with the wall or other furniture.
