Long pants (dress pants) are generally worn to go to the office or attend certain events. Generally, trousers should be cleaned carefully or using a laundry service, especially if the pants are made of delicate materials. Always read the trouser care instructions before washing or drying them. When you machine wash, hand wash, or dry your pants, make sure you do so with care.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using the Washing Machine
Step 1. Check the trouser care instructions
It is important to always read the care instructions for pants before starting to wash them. If washed in an improper way, the pants may be damaged. Use a laundromat to wash your trousers if you are afraid of damaging them.
Strong cotton, wool and polyester are machine washable. Soft wool, silk, and cotton should be hand washed
Step 2. Test the durability of the trousers fabric with water
Do an endurance test before washing your pants. Wet the hidden part of the pants with a little water. You can also apply a small amount of detergent that will be used. Rub the cotton on the cloth. If the color of the pants fades and sticks to the cotton, wash the trousers using a laundry service.
Step 3. Turn the pants over
Turning the pants over can help reduce sag and protect the buttons. After the pants are turned over, put them in a mesh bag. You can purchase mesh bags made specifically for washing clothes at your nearest convenience store.
Step 4. Wash the trousers in cold water and a gentle wash cycle
Place the mesh bag containing the trousers into the washing machine. Use a mild detergent. Choose the gentlest wash cycle and use cold water.
Take the pants out of the washing machine after the wash cycle is complete
Method 2 of 3: Hand Washing Trousers
Step 1. Fill the sink with cold water and add a mild detergent
You can wash your pants in the sink, basin, or bathtub. Fill the sink with cold water. Add a little mild detergent, then stir until foamy.
Step 2. Wet the entire pants with water and detergent
Soak the pants in detergent water until they are completely wet. Use your fingers to clean the stains on the pants. Rub the pants gently to avoid damaging the fabric.
Step 3. Refill the sink with clean water to rinse the pants
Drain the detergent water from the sink when the pants are clean. Refill the sink with clean cold water. Put the pants in clean water and then remove them. Keep repeating this process until all traces of detergent are gone.
Step 4. Clean the stains on the pants with water, salt, and cleaner
Start by wetting the stain with water. After that, sprinkle salt right on the stain. Leave it for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off the salt, then apply the cleaner to the inside of the pants (this will depend on the fabric type). Place a paper towel over the stain, let it sit for an hour, then rinse.
- Use an acid, such as lemon and vinegar, on cotton pants.
- Use a special wool detergent to wash wool trousers.
- Use detergent or dish soap to wash pants made of synthetic materials, such as rayon or polyester.
- Silk is very sensitive. Therefore, make sure the pants are completely wet when cleaning the attached stains. Apply glycerol to the stuck stain.
Method 3 of 3: Drying Trousers
Step 1. Roll up the pants using a towel
Do not dry trousers in a clothes dryer. Lay the trousers on a clean dry towel. Roll up the towel to cover the trousers. Squeeze the rolled up towel so the pants don't get too wet. Flatten the towel again, then transfer the pants to a slightly dry part of the towel. Repeat this process until the trousers are not too wet.
You may need to roll up and squeeze the towel and pants 4-5 times
Step 2. Lay the pants down to dry
Lay the pants on a flat surface. Make sure the surface used is not dirty. Also make sure there are no objects on top of the pants. Wait until the pants are completely dry. Once dry, you can take them out, iron them, or put them in the closet.
Step 3. Iron the pants
Instead, use the services of a laundromat to iron trousers that have natural creases. However, if the pants don't have natural creases, you can do this yourself. Turn the pants over and iron the pockets. After that, turn the pants again and iron all the parts. Make a crease in the front of the pants by straightening the inseam of the pants. Hold the iron a few inches from the crease when ironing the edges of the inseam.
Step 4. Hang the pants
Hang the pants after washing. If the pants have natural creases, fold them at the crease and hang them. If they don't have natural creases, simply fold the pants in half on a hanger and hang them.
- Folding pants over hangers can prevent wrinkles.
- Do not hang clothes in very humid places. Choose a place that has a humidity level of 40-50 percent.
Tips
- Buy pants that fit properly, or resize them to fit your body shape. Pants that are too big will wrinkle more easily.
- Some laundry supplies can be purchased in stores or on the internet. However, they may not always be effective at removing or washing certain stains and materials.
