When the air is warm, there is nothing more fun than grilling meat at home. However, if you want your hamburgers, steaks, and grilled chicken to taste great, it's important to keep the grill clean. If you have a stainless steel grill, you may find it difficult to clean because the surface of the object can be easily damaged. Whether you want to get rid of burnt residue, clean the inside, or give the outside a glossy finish, you need to use the right products and techniques to keep your grill really clean and good for cooking.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Rubbing the Surface of the Stainless Steel Grill
Step 1. Mix baking soda and water
To make a powerful cleaning solution for cleaning stainless steel grills, mix 45 grams of baking soda and 59 ml of water in a bowl. Stir the two ingredients until thickened.
You can use warm water to make the baking soda dissolve more easily
Step 2. Spread the thickened solution over the grill and let it sit for a few minutes
Once the cleaning solution is ready to use, use your hands or a clean rag to apply it to the grill. Make sure you coat the entire grill surface evenly. Focus on the dirtiest areas, and let the solution sit on the grill for at least 20 minutes.
It's a good idea to remove the grill iron before applying the cleaning solution. This will allow you to clean both sides of the iron so that no stain remains
Step 3. Coat heavily soiled areas of the grill with the cleaning solution and let sit overnight
If you haven't cleaned your toaster in a while, you may need a stronger cleaning solution to clean it. Coat both sides of the grill surface with oven cleaner. Place the toaster in a trash bag and let it sit overnight.
- You can use oven cleaner if the baking soda solution doesn't work. You don't need to use two different methods, unless the toaster is really dirty and the baking soda solution is leaving residue on the iron.
- Any oven cleaner can be used to clean a toaster, but you may need to purchase a cleaning fluid specifically designed for ovens and toasters.
Step 4. Scrub the grill iron with a wire brush
After you've let the baking soda or oven cleaner sit for a while, scrub the entire surface with a wire brush made specifically for stainless steel. Be sure to rub the brush all over the sides of the grill to remove any residue from the cooking process.
Check the wire brush you are using to make sure it is in good condition. No wires should stick out
Step 5. Rinse the grill iron with water, then pat dry
After scrubbing the iron, use a water hose to rinse it with warm water. Be sure to rinse off all the cleaning liquid and any remaining stains, then dry the grill with a clean towel. Put the iron back in so you can use it again immediately.
If the iron is too dirty, you may need to repeat the cleaning process more than once to remove all dirt and food residue
Step 6. Immediately scrub the iron after use
If your stainless steel grill is clean, you should continue to keep it in good condition. Let the grill sit for 5 to 10 minutes after use. While it's still warm, use a wire brush to scrub the grill iron to remove any food debris.
- To reduce food residue, be sure to always preheat the grill before placing food on it. This will prevent the food from sticking.
- Make sure you've greased the food before placing it on the grill so it doesn't stick.
Method 2 of 3: Maintaining the Condition of the Inside of the Grill
Step 1. Brush the heating part inside the grill
The heater is usually located directly above the burner to cover the appliance from the grill iron. Food crumbs can sometimes get into it. So you have to get rid of the crumbs using a wire brush. Rub the area with a clean tissue paper afterwards.
- Make sure the grill is cool and not turned on before cleaning the components inside.
- If you're not sure where the heater is in the grill, read the user manual. The book sometimes tells where the heater or steam rod is.
Step 2. Remove any food debris from the burner
When you remove the grill heater, the burner will be inside. Food residue that builds up there can cause uneven heat and burner damage. Clean the burner tube with a small dry wire brush. Make sure you clean the end that is used to deliver gas.
- If the toaster is made of ceramic, do not clean it with a brush. Turn on the grill for 10 minutes to burn off any leftover food, then once the grill is turned off and cools down, use tweezers to remove large pieces of food.
- If you're not sure what type of burner is in your grill, read the user manual.
Step 3. Rinse the venturi tube with soapy water
The venturi tube delivers gas into the burner, so it gets dirty easily. Remove all parts of the burner according to the instructions in the user manual, then clean the area with a cloth dipped in soapy water. Rub a clean, damp cloth into the jar to dry it.
- A venturi tube is a small tube that has a series of small holes on the sides or ends. There are also tubes that are curved and connected directly to the burner, and there are those that are straight and easy to remove from the burner.
- Read the user manual to see what a venturi tube looks like and where it is located.
Step 4. Get rid of food crumbs that enter the venturi tube
A blockage in the venturi tube can prevent the grill from functioning properly, but it is very easy for insects and food crumbs to enter. Use a small wire brush to clean the holes in the tube so that it doesn't clog before you remove the tube and burner.
- Read the user manual to find out the correct way to attach the tube and reassemble it. Your grill won't work if it's not installed properly, and can be dangerous when it's turned on.
- A paperclip or a piece of wire can also be used to clean the hole in the tube.
- You may need to run water down the tube to make sure there are no blockages there.
Method 3 of 3: Removing Dirt on the Outside of the Grill
Step 1. Mix dish soap with water
It's best not to apply stainless steel cleaner to the outside of the grill as these products are not designed to clean hot surfaces. However, prepare a bucket of warm water, then add dish soap to create a warm, foamy cleaning solution.
Never use acidic cleaners or abrasives for stainless steel grills, as these can damage the finish
Step 2. Apply the mixture to the exterior of the grill
Dip a microfiber washcloth in the prepared soap solution. Rub the cloth all over the grill's exterior, making sure to rub gently so as not to scratch the surface of the stainless steel coating.
Be sure to use a microfiber cloth to clean the outside of the grill. Washcloths can usually scratch the stainless steel coating
Step 3. Scrub stubborn dirt with a sponge
If there are areas that are difficult to clean, use a damp sponge dipped in the soap solution. Rub it over the area to be cleaned, but make sure to move it in the direction of the stainless steel coating so you don't scratch the grill.
While you can use a soft sponge to clean a stainless steel grill, don't use a lint or wire brush. These objects will scratch the surface of the anti-rust coating
Step 4. Rinse the exterior of the grill with water
When finished washing the exterior of the grill, spray the object with a water hose. Make sure you use warm water, so all the soap residue can be removed from the anti-rust coating.
Step 5. Dry the toaster with a microfiber cloth
After you've rinsed all the dirt and soap off, dry the item with a microfiber cloth. Make sure you use a microfiber cloth, and wipe the grill in the direction of the anti-rust coating to make it cleaner.
If the toaster is dry, you may need to add extra stainless steel cleaner to give it a shinier shine
Tips
- Before cleaning a stainless steel grill with a product, make sure you read the instructions for use to make sure the product is safe to use.
- Even if you need to scrub the iron after every use, you should still clean the entire grill at least twice a year. We recommend that you clean the object before the end of the year, so that it is ready for use in the following year.
- You may need to purchase a grill cover. This will help keep the grill clean all year round.
