Folding sheets snugly with the creased ends, rather than just clumping them together, is a handy way to keep your sheets organized and save space. Whether you're a person who likes to keep things tidy or just looking to save storage space, you can benefit greatly from learning to fold fitted sheets effectively. How to fold this fitted sheet is very simple and once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to fold it left and right!

Step

Step 1. Hold the sheet lengthwise, end to end

Tuck each end of your hand into the 2 corners of the sheet on the right and the left. That means each of your hands is at one corner of the bottom end of the "leg" of the sheet, and one corner of the top end of the "head" of the sheet, on the same side. Make sure the sheets are turned completely upside down (including the 2 other corners of the sheet that you're not holding), with the smooth or printed side of the sheet facing/sticking to you.

Step 2. Bring the corners of the sheets together

Bring the ends of your hands together and tuck one corner under the other, so that the one on top is upside down, with the nice sheet surface now on the outside. Now you have both corners of the sheet in one hand. Switch to the other hand to make it easier.

Step 3. Take the other two corners

Having grasped the two corners of one end of the sheet, now run your other hand along the edge of the sheet to the other two corners of the other end of the sheet.

Step 4. Enter this corner

When you get to the other end, insert one of the corners at this end into the two corners you stacked earlier.

Step 5. Take the last corner

At this point, all ends of the sheets should be stacked, except for the one you just grabbed.

Step 6. Enter the last corner

This corner will also be placed under the other three corners that you hold in your other hand. If you want it easier, you can combine steps 4, 5, 6 by: Take the other two corners as in step no.3. Then insert one corner of the section into the other so that the two corners are now stacked like you did with the first two corners. After that just join these last two corners with the first two by turning them over, so that the four corners now form a hollow in the same direction, and the length of the sheet is folded in half.

Step 7. Shake the sheets

Now trim the corners of the four folds of the sheet so that the edges are neat. Take the two corners of the current fold and flick them around until the sheet is smooth. Take the other two corners and flick them again, so that all corners are neat. You now have a square/rectangular sheet fold with the wrinkled/rubbed corners of the sheet affecting both sides of the sheet fold.

Step 8. Smooth out the folds of the sheets

Lay out the folded sheets on a bed or flat surface and smooth the surface of the sheets with your hands. After that, trim the folds of the sheets by folding the two sides that are not straight (near the corner). Smooth out the folds with your hands.

Step 9. Now fold the sheet again from the opposite end of the corner fold so that the two edges meet

Usually 1/3 of the width so that it folds twice until it meets the corner crease. But it could be 1/4, depending on the size of the sheets

Step 10. After forming the long folds, fold the sheets again into 3 or 4 folds so that they form short folds ready for storage

Adjust the folds to your liking, the thickness, and also the size of the sheets.

Step 11. Trim and smooth your folds

Trim and smooth as necessary to even out the sheets. This will prevent the sheets from wrinkling.

Step 12. Done

You're done! It's a good idea to keep all the sheets of your bedding set together by also folding other layers of sheets (such as inner/bottom sheets or outer/top sheets) and pillowcases and tying them together using ribbon or twine. This will keep your closet tidy and space-saving. It would also look great if guests came!

Tips

  • For extra comfort, you can also store all bedding sets in one paired pillowcase. Thus, the closet remains neat and all the necessary items are in one place, so they are not scattered and difficult to find.
  • If you can buy two or three sets of the same sheet at once, then the top sheets, bottom sheets, and pillowcases are interchangeable. It's hard to find the same pattern on different days, so keep this in mind and try to buy it at the same time.
  • Code your stash of sheets according to color and size. For example, blue sheets for a cot, yellow sheets for a one-person bed, and cream sheets for a king-size bed.
