You can stretch your shoes easily even though they are made of suede leather which is notoriously difficult to handle. If you want to stretch it a little, apply some suede-safe stretch spray. For more demanding tasks, purchase a stretcher specifically designed for casual shoes, high heels, or boots. If there is a problem, or you are afraid that expensive shoes will break, consult a shoe repair service.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Spray Solution
Step 1. Try using a spray solution to stretch the shoe about to size
Spraying your shoes, then wearing them for a few hours is a quick way to stretch them. If you only want to stretch your shoe to or size, the spray will suffice.
Spray solutions are also the least expensive option
Step 2. Purchase an immediate-use solution designed for suede shoes
You can buy stretch products at shoe supply stores or the internet. To avoid damage and discoloration, look for products specifically designed for suede. Some products are designed to be used overnight with the aid of a shoe stretcher. So, choose a product marked immadiete-use so you don't have to use a shoe stretcher.
Step 3. Spray a small amount of the solution on the inside of the shoe
Spray a thin layer of the solution on the inside of the shoe. If necessary, use your fingers or a clean cloth to reach into the nooks and crannies to spread the solution evenly.
Check the directions on the package, as some products must also be sprayed on the outside
Step 4. Wear the shoes for a few hours
You don't have to walk. You can sit at your desk and do your daily chores while wearing your shoes. To give it more stretch, put on thick socks before you put on your shoes.
Step 5. Repeat the process if necessary
If your shoes remain tight after a few hours have passed, or to stretch out thick boots or shoes, you may need to repeat the process 1 or 2 times. Almost any product can be used as much as you want without damaging the shoe.
- However, if you have sprayed and worn your shoes twice and they are not blooming, you may need to use a shoe stretcher.
- Check the instructions on the packaging to ensure that the product can be safely used multiple times. Some products are not designed to be used more than once in a short period of time.
Method 2 of 3: Using the Shoe Stretcher
Step 1. Purchase a shoe stretcher that fits your needs
In online stores, you can buy a variety of stretchers for regular shoes, high heels, or boots. These tools are generally sold separately and are made in various sizes for both men and women.
- If you want to stretch the calf part of the boot, there are stretchers designed to do that.
- You can also purchase a stretcher that has been added to provide room for bunions (lumps on the big toe).
Step 2. Spray the shoes with the stretcher solution
Some stretchers include a spray solution. If you don't have one, or the solution isn't specifically designed for suede, buy a solution designed for overnight use assisted by a stretcher. Check the directions on the package, and spray the shoes as directed.
Step 3. Insert the stretcher, then turn the handle to tighten it
Insert the end of the stretcher that is shaped like a leg, and find a grip on the other end. Turn the handle clockwise until the stretcher fits snugly into the shoe.
If you only have one stretcher, do the stretches one at a time
Step 4. Rotate the handle 3-4 times after the stretcher is firmly attached
If the stretcher fits snugly in the shoe, you will feel pressure as you turn the handle. When it feels tight, rotate the handle 3-4 more times to stretch the shoe.
Step 5. Remove the stretcher after 24-48 hours
Turn the handle counterclockwise to loosen it, then remove the tool from inside the shoe. Try on the shoes, and repeat the process if necessary. When the size is right, and you only have one stretcher, spray and stretch the other shoe.
Method 3 of 3: Stretching Shoes Safely
Step 1. Protect suede from extreme heat or cold
Some tricks you can use to stretch your shoes include using a blow dryer or placing a bag of water inside the shoe and freezing it. Extreme temperatures are not good for suede. So you should not try this trick. Also, you won't be able to control how much the water bag will expand when it freezes. This can cause the shoes to tear.
Step 2. Check the soles to see if they hinder stretching
There are limits to how much you can stretch thick boots and other shoes with thick soles. In addition, heavy soles made of plastic, rubber, and other hard materials will hinder stretching. Even a professional can struggle with this, and you may only be able to stretch your shoe a maximum of to size.
Step 3. Avoid using stretchers on shoes that have a narrow design
Whether the shoes are flat or high heels, always be careful when stretching narrow-toed shoes. Maybe you can stretch the shoe a bit if you spray and put it on. However, using a stretcher can permanently change its shape.
Step 4. Consult a professional if you are afraid the shoes will be damaged
You may be hesitant to stretch shoes that are expensive, have a smooth design, or have thick rubber/plastic soles that can hinder stretching. If in doubt, go to a cobbler or shoe repair service.
