Sometimes you want to pretend to be someone else, or you need to radiate a different image of yourself, either to impress a special girl or to avoid being noticed or told. Whatever the reason, the need is urgent. Funnily enough, acting can actually put you on the radar.
Step
Step 1. Dress like a shy person
Your appearance will make a first impression on new people. When choosing clothes, keep in mind that you are trying to look shy, so you want to look very unnoticed. Plain jeans or khakis, and a simple shirt… a plain white with a few small flowers is fine too…
- Don't wear accessories too much, but don't wear accessories at all – a pair of earrings or a hair clip if you're a woman, for example, can help you stand out more in the crowd.
- Go for traditional colors, but don't go overboard with dark colors (if you're wearing dark pants, don't wear a dark top either).
Step 2. Speak shyly
That means as little as possible. Remember that you are shy, so act like it's hard for you to converse with strangers.
- Keep your volume slightly lower than normal, but don't whisper. As often as possible respond with short answers.
- Don't give out too much information about yourself, but don't be too mysterious or secretive; avoid personal details and show discomfort when you have to reveal some details.
- Take a moment before answering as if you're not sure what to say, or how to say it, so that you find the "right answer"… or that's exactly what you want the other person to think.
- Ask as few questions as you can, making sure that most of them are "back questions" (the other person asks you something, and after you've answered add "and you?"), you can also pause before turning the question over as if you were thinking about it only after further consideration.
Step 3. Appear shy
Minimize eye contact, look down at the floor often but not for more than a few seconds, and wink a lot – you're trying to sound like you're too shy to look at other people and don't know what to do with your eyes.
Never make eye contact with people you don't like
Step 4. Be shy
Body language says a lot about a person.
- For example, when crossing your arms, act as if you are hugging yourself, try not to appear too defensive, just to protect your privacy.
- Don't take it too seriously, and when you laugh pretend to be a little embarrassed by the fact, but only a little.
- Most importantly: no matter what, avoid taking the initiative in anything.
Step 5. Be shy
Always carry a little lucky mascot with you, it will make you seem a bit nervous about everything.
Bite your nails – you can always use a nail file when you get home. Do not use brightly colored nail polish, only clear ones, dark colors are also okay, but avoid ones that are too dark
Tips
- When speaking, don't be too fast or loud like a confident person and try to slip in "Mm" and pause as well.
- Don't go from being cheerful and cheerful one day to being very shy the next – people will think you're faking it.
- You can also smile a little and lower your head with a smile.
- Avoid giving information without being asked, but also don't keep it all in.
- Close your mouth or look away. This method is especially helpful when you don't know what to do or say!
- Squeezing or covering part of your face with your hair can make you feel and look embarrassed.
- When pretending to be shy, you can still get someone's phone number or email address even if they don't offer or ask for your number first, but wait until the last moment to do so (however you expect him to take the initiative) then act shy and unsure when you ask for it.
- Don't be shy around your friends. If they knew who you really were, they would think something was wrong and might ask about it. Then you will be highlighted. Just try to act a little differently around your friends.
- Blushing cheeks can also be successful in showing shyness.
- Biting your nails can make you look really embarrassed.
- Acting like this is not recommended. If you want friends, be yourself and don't insult really shy people, people who do have trouble making eye contact and being open.
- Be careful of the person you are object of in being coy. If there's a boy/girl you really like, don't pretend to be shy. Show a confident attitude.
- Make sure to frequently play with something like hair, fingers, pencil, or whatever.
Warning
- If you want to stop being coy with someone and start being yourself, make the change as gradual as possible so the person won't notice that you were just pretending before.
- Always make sure that you don't hurt other people's feelings.
- Pretending to be someone you're not at first is fun, but eventually it will keep you from fully enjoying yourself, and then get in the way of making friends.
- Shy people are often seen as rude for being too quiet, so it's important to be friendly and put on a small smile so people don't think you're arrogant.
- Make sure the situation supports you to be shy. Before setting yourself up for doing this, consider why you want to do it and whether it's really necessary.
- Pretending to be someone who might make others feel like you're lying to them and possibly offending them is definitely not the way to make friends and build meaningful relationships.
