There's a movie just released in theaters, and you're dying to see it. Unfortunately, the film is categorized for adults, and you are still a minor. Apart from that, there were no adults willing to accompany. There's only one option to be able to watch the film without getting caught, which is to sneak, and that can be a very scary experience.
Step
Step 1. Customize your appearance
Wear clothes that make you look mature. (For girls, don't overdo it.) Don't wear a school uniform. Clothing that includes the name or logo of the college or university can be very helpful, because if you look like a student, people will assume you are 18 years old. For guys, try to grow facial hair, and don't shave 2 days before going to the movies to look more mature. Also, try to lower your voice so that it resembles that of an adult.
Step 2. Practice and prepare yourself
Plan what to do next. Practicing your prepared words will make you more comfortable saying them when dealing with other people face-to-face. For example, try to create a fake birth date before leaving. It's easier for people to catch people who are lying about their age by asking for their date of birth. If you tremble when you try to tell the fake date of birth, the theater staff will be suspicious and won't let you in. If you look like an 18-year-old, simply tell the theater attendant that it's your birthday today and you left your ID at home.
Step 3. Go watch with other people
Try to go with friends who are over 17 years old, as you will appear to be the same age as them. Going out with friends will make this first sneak peek less scary, and you won't be caught alone if you fail.
Step 4. Think of an escape plan
When caught sneaking, do not panic! Just make excuses like "My parents are in the theater, I just got out of the bathroom." Such an excuse sounded more natural. If you're caught using the movie theater switching method, try making a good excuse like “Oops, sorry! Looks like I went to the wrong theater.” You can look around while saying the reason to make it look more natural. Do not never tried to run away if caught. This would only infuriate the pursuing officer, and also attract the attention of many people, including the angry manager.
Method 1 of 7: Switching Movie Theaters
Step 1. Go to the ticket booth and buy a ticket for a movie in the "All Ages", "Parental Guidance" or "Teenager" categories
Pay for the ticket and say thank you.
Step 2. Give the ticket to the ticket collector and act as if you really want to see the film
Step 3. The next stage is the most difficult part, which is getting into the theatre
Skip the ticket collectors and mingle with the crowd to avoid being seen. However, instead of watching a ticket-purchased movie, go to a movie theater that shows adult films.
Method 2 of 7: Leveraging Adult Help
Step 1. Find an adult who looks friendly
Look around the theater and look for adults waiting in line or doing nothing.
Step 2. Ask them to help you buy a ticket
If they refuse at first, try to give them money; you should give at least IDR 50,000 plus the ticket money.
Step 3. If they refuse, find another adult and try again
Method 3 of 7: Watching Without Buying Tickets
Step 1. Ask a sibling or friend to help buy tickets and enter the theater
Step 2. Usually near the cinema (not from inside the theater) there is an exit that cannot be opened from outside the building, and that door is used so that people can leave the cinema without having to go through the lobby again
Go there and ask a friend or brother to open the door from the inside so you can go inside. If someone is near the door, pretend to smoke or make a phone call, so that you look like someone who just stepped out of the cinema for a moment. It's a good idea to bring old tickets from movies that you've seen before, because if the theater clerk asks, you can show them the ticket at a glance and tell them you went out to smoke or make a phone call.
Method 4 of 7: Using an Automatic Ticket Booking Machine
Step 1. If you don't have a credit card, buy a debit/prepaid card at stores that provide one
Step 2. If the theater has an automatic ticket booking engine, use it
With that machine, pay for adult movie tickets using your prepaid card. This step will help you get tickets without having to lie. Note that the machine will print the ticket on special paper and this can draw people's attention towards you.
Method 5 of 7: Buying Snacks at Food Stalls in a Hurry
Step 1. Buy a ticket
Step 2. Go to the food stall and buy popcorn, drinks, etc
Step 3. When sneaking into the theater with a purchased snack, try to rush into the theater so that you look like someone who stepped out of the theater to buy a snack and didn't want to skip the rest of the film
Method 6 of 7: Pretend to Go to the Bathroom
Step 1. Purchase movie tickets for the "All Ages", "Parental Guidance" and "Teenagers" categories
Step 2. Go into the theater and wait a few minutes to make yourself look like someone who really wanted to see the movie
Step 3. Head out of the theater to the bathroom, then sneak into the theater showing adult movies when you come back from the bathroom
This method will be easier to do if the officer is taking tickets or talking to other people and not watching.
Method 7 of 7: Asking Parents for Help
Step 1. If your parents allow you to watch adult films, but they don't want to see the films themselves, invite them to accompany you there
Step 2. Ask your parents to buy tickets for you
Step 3. Take the ticket from your parents and enjoy the movie
Some theaters allow you to buy adult movie tickets if you are accompanied by a parent, even if the parents did not buy tickets for themselves. However, some theaters require your parents to watch the film with you.
Tips
- Basically, some movie theater attendants who are usually underpaid don't care about your age.
- You have a greater chance of success if you use the movie theater switching method.
- Note that if you are taller than people your age, and in two years you will be 17 (i.e. you are 15 or 16), the ticket clerk will think you are 17 and will not suspect anything.
- The worst thing that can happen if you get caught sneaking out is being kicked out of the cinema. Fortunately, you will most likely manage to sneak in.
- Don't act suspicious. One of the things that can make officers suspicious is when you don't carry an ID card, travel with a group of teenagers, or buy tickets for a children's movie. If one of the officers became suspicious, he would immediately notify the other officers.
- If you are not too tall, try to go with a taller friend, and don't forget to adjust your appearance. Heels don't matter, but casual sports shoes or flat-toed shoes make a good impression! Try to dress casually and try to go out with 2-4 friends (including you), because you and your friends will look like roommates.
- Try to sit in the back, in an inconspicuous place; the right side of the room is very inconspicuous. Sit quietly and don't be noisy!
- Try to be polite and not make a lot of noise while the movie is playing. Keep in mind that other people are spending their money to see this film and they don't want a bunch of kids to interfere with the screening. Usually the only reason children should be excluded from adult screenings is because they are talking, yelling and behaving inappropriately while the movie is showing.
- Pretend you're on the phone and talk about things that adults say a lot, like "Yesterday I had to work half a day because yesterday was Saturday." This way, the serving staff will overhear the conversation and won't ask for an ID because they will think you are at least 21 years old and they will find it rude to interrupt.
- While there are ways to sneak around, it's best to wait until you're 17 to see adult films, as they are categorized as adult for a number of reasons. The content of the film is deemed unsuitable for people your age to watch, and sneaking into the theater will be a hassle for you and the cinema staff, as they will have to arrest and expel you. Watch movies that are considered appropriate for your age, and by the time you are 17, you can watch any movie. Be patient.
Warning
- If caught trying to sneak in, you may get in trouble and your parents may be called.
- Follow this guide understanding the risks, which are at your own risk.
- If you're traveling with friends, make sure that the friend you invite won't get you kicked out of the cinema (don't invite rude and noisy friends).
- Note that many people are aware that teenagers have a tendency to break the rules and they will keep an eye on teens who look suspicious.
- Sneaking can be very risky, so be careful.
- Make sure that you are absolutely sure to do all of this. You certainly don't want to do anything against your conscience, and smugglers can be considered a nuisance, even though you might buy tickets for a different movie.
- Some cinemas (especially the better and newer ones) have stricter safeguards and regulations than others which are not as good and new as the cinema. Some theaters will check ticket rebates and ID card too. If they ask to show your ID, you may not be able to dodge it again (even if your ticket was purchased by someone over 17).
- When will try the guide Watching Without Buying Tickets, ask your sister to help you enter the theater and open the door for you. However, you should ask them to leave, because if you only have one ticket, only one person can see the film.
- Be careful with the security guards at the cinema. Some cinemas place their security guards in theater rooms showing adult films to prevent minors from viewing adult films without parental assistance. If you see the security officer, it would be better if you return the ticket and get the ticket money back, because the security officer may ask for ID cards for you and your friends if they know that you are under 17 years old.
- Remember that if caught sneaking around, the officer serving you will get in trouble or even be fired.
