Dreams are considered to play an important role in certain religions because, according to the bible, many figures are visited by God in their sleep. Dreams can be interpreted in various ways, but dreams do not always have a specific meaning. Many people find it difficult to determine how important it is to pay attention to the meaning of dreams. To be sure, ask God through prayer.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Remembering Dreams
Step 1. Keep a journal to record your dreams
Record the dream in detail. At first, this step may seem difficult, but the more you practice it, the easier it will be for you to remember details in your dreams. Locations, people, or various objects that you can remember may be a very important aspect. If so, God will help you to remember the dream clearly.
- Various symbols sometimes play an important role, for example: numbers, directions, colors, or animals. Symbols that appear in dreams can symbolize negative or positive things.
- Rely on the Holy Spirit when revealing the meaning (negative or positive) of the symbols you see in your dreams.
Step 2. Observe the emotions you feel
Dreams can trigger a sense of surprise, sadness, or joy, but usually, you will feel certain emotions when remembering dreams. Record the emotional responses that occur in the dream in order.
Write down how you feel when you think of an object or person that appeared in your dream. If a certain object triggers your fear or you know a certain figure well, tell us everything you felt in your dream
Step 3. Determine when you experienced the event in the dream
Dreams often bring up memories of the past, everyday experiences, or things that haven't happened yet. If in your dream you meet people you have known when you were younger, perhaps you are dreaming about the past. If you are unsure where you are or see people you don't know, you may be dreaming about the future.
Pray that God will heal you through dreams about past experiences that caused suffering and are still buried in your heart
Step 4. Determine if you dream about yourself or someone else
Observe your perspective and the way you interact in the dream. If you are silent or do not interact with other people, you may be just observing or witnessing what is going on and not directly involved. The dream is just a reminder of something that might happen. If in a dream you become a central figure, you are most likely dreaming because you need to influence yourself or your life.
Part 2 of 3: Identifying the Symbol
Step 1. Pay attention to the color of the object in the dream
Each color represents a specific symbol that is usually associated with an important religious figure. For example: in Catholicism, the color blue is associated with the Virgin Mary who is often depicted wearing a blue dress as a symbol of a healthy and blessed life.
Step 2. Pay attention to the animal that appears in the dream
Interpreting animal symbols is not an easy thing because in the Bible, animals symbolize positive and negative things. For example:
- The “lion of the tribe of Judah” represents Jesus, but the “roaring lion” is also used as a symbol of the devil in the Bible.
- Sometimes, cats represent evil spirits, but they can be symbols of comfort.
- Dogs also symbolize positive and negative things, for example: as a symbol of a good friend or an unbeliever.
Step 3. Look for significant figures
Sometimes, numbers appear in the form of writing, but often appear in the form of several objects. For example: in the Bible, Joseph interprets the dream of Pharaoh who saw seven skinny cows eating seven fat cows as a prophecy of seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine.
Understand the context of the dream. For example: if you dream of seeing five gold rings, in the context of time, this could mean five days, weeks, months, or years. However, the number five is also a symbol of the five evil kings of Israel. A person who loses five closest people and dreams of seeing five gold rings can be interpreted as a symbol of their existence in heaven. To reveal the true meaning of dreams, try to interpret the numbers by understanding the context thoroughly
Step 4. Focus on religious objects that are considered important
To interpret dreams, some seemingly ordinary objects play an important role, for example: a cross, bread and wine, or a burning bush.
Some other objects are considered quite important symbols, for example: apples, coins, or candles. If an object you see on a daily basis feels important in your dream, it may be a symbol
Part 3 of 3: Finding the Meaning of Dreams
Step 1. Do not use a dictionary of the meaning of symbols in dreams
To determine the importance of an object or symbol in a dream, you must relate it to a biblical verse. For example: a dream dictionary might interpret goats as a symbol of prosperity, but from a religious point of view, goats are usually associated with oppressors or unrepentant sinners.
Step 2. Get to know each symbol
Find out the various meanings of each symbol, especially by understanding the relationship between the symbol and your everyday life. If you dream of religious things, maybe God wants to talk to you in a dream. Try to reveal the true significance of your dream, but it is still hidden.
Step 3. Determine whether the meaning of your dream is literal or symbolic
Dreaming of seeing someone who is about to die can be literal, but it may also be symbolic. Dreaming of someone dying can be a symbol of breaking up relationships or ending problems.
Some religious symbols often appear in dreams according to their respective conditions. The dragon or snake is the symbol of the devil. A naked body is a symbol of closeness to God. A messy or well-groomed house symbolizes the state of your spirit. This symbol often appears in dreams related to religious life
Step 4. Try to remember the emotion or problem you had the day you dreamed
Think about whether there are aspects of your daily life that make you feel the emotions that appear in your dreams.
If you are under a lot of stress or very busy, dreams are a means for your mind to process your daily life while you are sleeping. Sometimes, your dream may sound religious, but it doesn't feel like a message from God. If the dream feels less important, don't look for its meaning
Step 5. Pray
If you get an important message or warning in a dream, ask God what He wants to teach you. A religious dream may be a challenge from God for you to seek the true truth. Do not ignore dreams just because they are difficult to understand. Find the answer by asking God or reading the Bible.
