Having the ability to read one's mind can be very surprising and confusing to others. If you do it right, even the simplest of tricks can trick your friends into thinking you're one of those people with supernatural powers. You could even put on a show on the street. Is it possible? Just make sure that you use this new power for good, and not evil!

Part 1 of 2: Reading People Effectively
Step 1. Choose the right person for you to read his mind
You probably know how magicians, comedians, and show performers sometimes choose one or two audience members to interact with. The audience is not chosen randomly and quickly; the entertainers observed the entire audience to select only the right person. Some people are too introverted or self-isolating and unwilling to accept (new ideas) while others are too open to anything. To use any of the following techniques, you need someone who is balanced but involved, and appears expressive enough.
Out of your group of friends, the one you feel comfortable with is the best. You also need someone who reacts to ideas and is open to events and they are generally quite easy to read. Someone who is calm/quiet, serious, and difficult to interact with is not going to help
Step 2. Know how most people answer questions
Everyone, whether we like it or not, runs on some kind of program. When asked, we tend to give the same response. Having knowledge of what most people would say in a situation can make it seem as if you are telepathically sending them off without being noticed. Here are some basics:
- If asked to choose a number between 1 to 10, most people choose the number 7
- If asked to think of a color quickly (in 3 seconds or less), most people choose red
- If given more time (4 seconds or more), they will choose blue
Step 3. Imitate them
To get people to open up and be honest with you, it's a good idea to imitate them. That is, imitate their body position and aspects of their personality. For example, if they put their hands in their pockets and look a little shy then put your hands in your pockets and act a little coy. If they're fussy or talkative and they're all over the place, do the same. This way will put both of you on the same feeling/thought.
If the person you're asking to do this is someone you know then that's fine. However, some people tend to be silent when you tell them you want to "read their minds." This will relax them and give them a feeling of security, making your job easier
Step 4. Learn how to detect lies
An easy way to turn lying into mind reading is to ask someone a series of questions where only you know that only one is a lie. Let's say you asked your friend what number he was thinking about, then you told him to always say "no" to lie to you. If you can detect their lies, you can astonish them with your mind-reading powers.
Say, some of your friends give a 'no' answer to the number they are thinking of. All responses look the same except for the number 6, for example; his "no" was strained, his eyes darted to and fro, they seemed too insistent, and a little nervous. Chances are, 6 is the number he chose
Step 5. Look for a response from the muscles
Just as the body can indicate a lie, the body can show what is on the mind. Gently place your hand on your friend's back or shoulder (if necessary, say it's a way to create a connection) and begin your trick. When their thoughts-which you're trying to get to-come, you'll feel their bodies tense up a little or make adjustments.
Say you ask your friend to think of a letter in the alphabet. You will sing a song about the alphabet (ABC Song) to help channel his thoughts. When your song gets to the letter he's chosen, you'll notice a change in his body. After that mention the letter he chose, see if he will be surprised; his mind did not record any reflex movements from his body
Part 2 of 2: Mastering the "Telepathy" Trick
Step 1. Imprint the answers in their minds
Many people who are mind-reading actually have prepared or arranged things. In order to get your friends to say the answer you want, you can plant ideas in their minds by saying them first. Here's an example:
You want your friend to say "red" when asking for their favorite color. Before asking the question, you say the following four other things: "Hey, what's going on? How's your family? Oh really? I just saw my favorite movie. I love that color for you. I might get a new car in *red* *."
Step 2. Learn tricks like the "Black Eagle from Denmark
"There are a few tricks that, if your friend doesn't know it, you can amaze him with your supernatural power, namely the ability to read minds. Try the trick "Black Eagle from Denmark." Ask your friend to do the following:
- Choose a number between 1 and 10.
- Multiply that number by 9.
- Add, if the result is 2 digits. For example 72, then 7+2 = 9 (If it's only one digit, leave it as is.)
- Subtract that number by 5.
- Associate the resulting numbers with the appropriate letters: 1=A, 2=B, and so on.
- Think of a country name that starts with that letter.
- Take the second letter of the country's name, then think of an animal name that begins with that letter.
- Finally, ask your friend to think about the color of the animal. Then, ask them if they're thinking “Black Eagle from Denmark”!
- Most people, but not all, will answer that way. It's just math. They will end with 4, which when associated with the letter is "D." Most people will choose "Denmark" for the country name. From there, they have the option of choosing the animal's name by taking the second letter, and some people will choose "eagle."
Step 3. Perform a magic trick
Convincing magic tricks can make your friends think that you have some kind of supernatural power. It can be done with cards, small objects, or no objects at all. Learn some of them that will surprise your friends and will make them think you can read minds!
