Poison Ivy can be called one of the most dangerous and enduring female villains in Batman comics who is also on the same level as Catwoman and Harley Quinn. You can make your own Poison Ivy costume to wear to a comics conference or Halloween party you're going to, and doing so is very easy. Here are the things and procedures that you should pay attention to.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Making the Basic Outfit
Step 1. Look for a green bodysuit
The color should be darker than mint green, but not as dark as regular green. The bodysuit you choose should cover your body from chest to waist, and the hem should not go past your waist.
- You can also use a leotard. Regardless of the type of clothing you are wearing, make sure to wear a plain green without a pattern.
- A green structured bodice or bodysuit can also be used and is even easier to work with. Unfortunately this type of clothing is a bit expensive, and it's a bit difficult to find a structured corset or bodysuit in the right green color.
Step 2. Sew the faux vine on the surface of the bodysuit
Use a needle and green thread to attach each vine to the front of the bodysuit.
- Attach the leaves by threading the back of the bodysuit through the center of each leaf and then back to the original place through the previous path. Repeat this a few times for each leaf to keep them locked in place.
- Create a vine pattern by forming a consistent line from the top of the costume to the bottom using faux tendrils. The top of the costume should also be filled with leaves, then you can reduce the number of leaves from the middle to the bottom.
- If you are using a corset, the leaves can be easily attached using a hot glue gun. For a more flexible material, it may be difficult to use hot glue because it will make the costume stiffer and harder to fit on the body.
- You will probably need about 4 to 6 bunches of faux vines for this project.
- In addition, you can color each leaf with red and green gloss powder. But you don't have to do this.
Step 3. If necessary, put on a camis
If the chosen bodysuit feels uncomfortable for you because it is too low in the chest, give a little modification to the costume by wearing a light green camisole underneath.
To add a special touch to your costume, look for a camisole with a lace pattern towards the top. While lace isn't part of Poison Ivy's signature look, this particular detail still provides a seductive image of a female villain
Step 4. Wear a green dance skirt
This skirt should look hanging and the color should match the color of your bodysuit. Fairy-style short skirts can also be used as a substitute.
- You can just wear the costume without the skirt, but if you don't feel comfortable showing your body, you can wear a skirt to make it look decent enough.
- Alternatively, you can make a simple robe-shaped skirt by attaching a light green fabric to a belt. Measure the fabric just enough to fit around your waist, and it should be knee length or more. Attach it to the green belt by sewing or gluing a piece of the rectangular fabric to the belt. You can also add a green lace to the skirt to make it look like leaves.
Part 2 of 4: Covering Your Arms and Knees
Step 1. Put on green gloves
Poison Ivy costumes usually include green gloves that reach elbow length.
- Make sure the green on the gloves is different from the green on the bodysuit. If the color on the bodysuit is darker, use a lighter color for the gloves. Vice versa, if the bodysuit is light green or medium, use a darker color for the gloves.
- You can also make faux gloves by using rectangular strips of fabric to wrap your entire arm from the elbow down. Sew or glue these pieces together. To give the vines a distinctive look, use green lace.
Step 2. Wear green tights
Put tights under the bodysuit and skirt.
- The color for the tights depends on the color of the bodysuit. If the bodysuit is dark in color, wear tights in a lighter color, and vice versa.
- In urgent situations, green leggings such as leggings can also be used. After all, you just need something green and tight to cover your feet.
- If you can't find green tights, you can use white tights dyed green using cheap clothes dye. The advantage of using this method is that you can also do the same with gloves and boots to make them the same color as your pants.
- For additional decoration, use needle and thread to thread the fake leaves up to your knees. You don't need a lot of leaves, as too many leaves can distract the crowd from the shape of your costume.
Step 3. Put on green boots
Ideally, the color of the shoe should match the color of the gloves and reach mid-calf or knee length.
- You can wear boots with a flat bottom or with heels, but if you choose heels, it's better to wear shoes with heels that are not too high than those that are clearly high.
- You can also use white boots that are dyed green with dye or spray paint for the fabric.
Part 3 of 4: Dealing with Her Hair and Mask
Step 1. Dye your hair red
Poison Ivy characters generally have long, bright red hair. Color your hair with the brightest temporary red hair dye you can find.
- Pay attention if your hair color is dark. You may have to lighten your hair first before dyeing it. Or you'll end up with a dark burgundy color that doesn't really look like Poison Ivy's hair color.
- If you avoid dyeing your hair, you can use a red wig. Look for a wavy red wig that goes past the shoulders but doesn't cross the middle of the back for the most classic Poison Ivy look.
- You can decorate a wig (if you have one) by attaching a handful of faux vines to the back of your body using a needle and thread.
Step 2. Fill a cat shape eye mask with fake vines
Instead of trying to create "Poison Ivy eyebrows" with makeup or body paint, you can create a similar look with a cat eye mask filled with vines.
- The position of the mask is tilted slightly above the eyebrows, to give the perfect shape for your Poison Ivy costume.
- If possible, use a green color mask from the start. Although the mask must still be filled with leaves, using a mask with this color is not as bad as using a mask of another color which will be easily visible if there are gaps between the leaves.
- Glue small vines around the mask. Start at the inner corners of each eye, making sure that each leaf is pointing outwards instead of inwards. You should also be careful not to let the leaves cover the eye holes.
- Use craft glue or hot glue to secure each leaf in place.
Part 4 of 4: Using Makeup
Step 1. Cover the eyelids with green eyeshadow
There are several ways to do this, but whatever method you use, green eyeshadow should remain the focus of your eye makeup.
- Start by applying a medium green eyeshadow on the lids. Draw a line in the hollows of your eyes with dark green eyeshadow, and use light green eyeshadow to cover the hollows up to the bottom of your eyebrows.
- Alternatively, you can use dark orange for the lids, dark green for the hollows, and medium green for the tops of the eyes.
- You can also use dark green eyeshadow for the lids, dark orange in the hollows, and a variety of light to medium greens on top.
- For a dramatic look, use glitter eyeshadow.
Step 2. Use a green or brown eyebrow pencil to outline your eyelids
Dark green or dark brown can make your eyes stand out. Draw an even line and smudge only your upper eyelids.
Step 3. Apply mascara
With this, your lashes will be long and voluminous. Use green or black mascara to coat your lashes and make them curl.
- If your eyelashes are already thick from there, you can just use an eyelasher to make them curly.
- Instead of using mascara, you can apply false eyelashes.
Step 4. Apply red lipstick on your lips
Bright red lipstick is a must. At the very least, your red lipstick should be as bright as your hair, or even more so. Another way you can go is to use green lipstick, but usually this color is a bit difficult to find.
