There may be many secret agents around us who work for government agencies, corporations, and private organizations to obtain information and report back. Part 1 of 3: Improving the Ability to Be a Spy
Step 1. Have charisma
James Bond is not a good secret agent because he is the strongest, the best at sneaking around, or the smartest. Because he is not good at fighting skills, he focuses on developing his ability to adapt in various situations and circumstances. He exudes his charisma. A good secret agent should be able to lure strangers in, manipulate them to do what you want. If your target is high-stakes poker players in Morocco, you should be able to get past the gatekeepers, place bets, and take part in the poker games. How did you do that? Charisma.
As an exercise, try learning how to get phone numbers from strangers in public. Open up a conversation with people you don't know and try to lure them in. Practice your sense of humor, be prepared with witty answers, and your other charms
Step 2. Take the time to perfect your acting skills with a variety of people
Go to places that may not be friendly to you, and learn to fit in and learn as much as you can from the locals. Can you pretend to be an employee of a foreign factory, struggling to make enough money? Can you pretend to be a Canadian ambassador of French ethnicity? What about singers and songwriters from Belize? A good secret agent would be able to do all that.
Learn about high and low culture. If you meet a high-ranking Frenchman who operates illegal smuggling, you need to know information about French wine and opera and talk about it. You may need to sneak into an oil rig and be comfortably next to a rough drunk, which means you really need to know at least one George Jones song
Step 3. Learn to detect and know if someone is lying
If a secret agent is caught by security guards in the middle of the night, hiding in the record room by torchlight, the secret agent must have a reason or be able to escape quickly without being noticed. On the other hand, if you find any suspicious behavior, you should also be able to detect lies quickly and efficiently. Learning to detect lies can also make you a good liar.
- Pay attention to body language. Liars tend to fold, moving their limbs away from others, as a symbol of discomfort. People who tell the truth tend to be more open.
- Liars will avoid using abbreviations, repeating sentences, and frequently repeating questions as a way of making excuses and finding appropriate answers. To avoid this, practice making excuses and lying so you won't be slow and give yourself up.
- Be calm when you tell lies. If you know that you need to tell a lie, try to stay calm. Many lies are detected because a person feels nervous and anxious. If you are calm, your lies will look like the truth.
Step 4. Keep your body in good shape to be athletic
An undercover agent might need to scramble over a fence with barbed wire, cling to the landing gear of a helicopter, or sneak into a Nestle exhaust system. Or, at least have the ability to run fast. If you want to work as a spy, keep in shape and try to stay physically fit for your job.
- Focus on cardio more than strength-building exercises. Many secret agents don't look like Schwarzenegger, but may need to run like an Olympic runner to escape guard dogs, security guards, or other henchmen.
- The secret agent's secret weapon might just be doing yoga. Need the ability to control your body, twist and turn through narrow corridors, and stay physically fit? Try yoga.
Step 5. Learn to fight
In the unlikely event that a good secret agent needs to learn to fight. You don't want to be caught and interrogated by your target behind a dark warehouse, and you don't need to worry that will happen if you can defend yourself with your fists.
- To make a good fist, clench your fingers tightly, but not so tight that you feel stiff. Loosen your fists when you defend yourself, and strengthen your fists when you punch. Your thumb is inside your other fingers, not outside.
- Hit with your second knuckle, not your third knuckle. You should ideally hit with the tips of your first and second knuckle, into the center of your target's face (nose and eyes) while avoiding the jaw and head, harder to reach places that can give you more damage. Punch straight and hard.
- Defend by adopting a defensive posture that can also be used to attack. Raise your fist to one side of your face in a fist posture, but advance toward your enemy, even when they are punching. Stepping into the fist to take their power.
Step 6. Learn to speak multiple languages
If you want to disguise yourself all over the world, you have to be comfortable speaking the local language where you are stationed. This is especially important for corporate spies, and some locations in authorized government agencies, mostly in high profile locations where agents may be assigned. The languages a secret agent must master include:
- Arab
- Farsi
- Russia
- Mandarin
- Pashto
Step 7. Learn to read lip movements
One of the most important language and skills for a young secret agent is to learn to understand body language. Learning to identify the information someone is passing on even when the person isn't aware is an important skill for an undercover agent.
You can practice the above at home by watching DVDs silently by turning on subtitles to get used to the shape of your mouth. Then, turn off the subtitles and see if you can decipher what is being said. Go to coffee shops and other public places and practice your ability to secretly listen to people's conversations
Part 2 of 3: Joining the Intelligence Service
Step 1. Earn a prestigious degree in business, foreign language, or law enforcement
There are no uneducated secret agents. A secret agent is not someone who just graduated from high school, or was recruited from somewhere because of his spying abilities. For most government agencies that employ field agents, a minimum of a bachelor's degree is required and someone with a prestigious degree is preferred.
- Field agents have a variety of degrees, but language skills, international law and politics, and business administration are some of the most sought-after degrees. You need to learn something that puts you in touch with global politics. Experience in the military field is also valuable.
- In the United States, as a student, you can try to get training with the Central Intelligence Agency. Competitive training programs are available for students learning about foreign regulations, or law enforcement, and these agencies tend to employ these students for a long time. If you hope to become a secret agent in the future, this can be a good stepping stone.
Step 2. Apply to a government intelligence agency
To formalize your status as a secret agent, you need to get a job i.e. working for the government in secret. There are many different kinds of jobs available in organizations such as the Central Intelligence Agency, and secret agents are usually involved in clandestine or covert activities. To fill out the application, you need to create an account, then look for job vacancies within the agency. Questions about your background, education and knowledge with foreign regulations will be available in your application. You'll also usually need to approve your background check and take a polygraph test before going through the next steps
Step 3. Approve the background check
To work as a secret agent, you need to have a really clean record. If you have a criminal record, or even a misdemeanor, your application will be flagged and discarded before you have a chance to prove yourself as a trusted agent. There will be hundreds of job applicants for each job opening, so this is essential if you want to be successful.
- To open up your chances of being accepted, keep yourself out of trouble. A polygraph test will be used to test the accuracy of your claim, and possibly a drug test will be part of your application, so you need to stay away from illegal chemicals and stay sober. Psychological, legal, or human relations problems will keep you from getting a job. This is a heavy thing.
- Since we're talking about the Central Intelligence Agency, it's highly likely that they can do some deep research. If you ever made a bomb threat, as a joke, when you were in high school and never got caught, be prepared to have it asked at your next meeting. Nothing will be missed.
Step 4. Make your life easier
If you are lucky to be one of the few people working as a government agent, congratulations! But, now your real work begins. Most likely you need to move around a lot, from country to country, always taking calls. Can you accept the challenge?
- Learn to keep things to a minimum and live with no regard for pleasure. Try not to keep things you don't want to take with you, when you walk in the next minute, when trouble comes. Too many connections and responsibilities can be a burden. Make your work your life. You are a secret agent!
- Being a spy can make your relationships with other humans, or your romantic relationships very difficult. Most likely you can't tell your friends and family what your job is. Do they agree to that? Do you mind that?
Step 5. Consider becoming an industry or corporate spy
There is more than one kind of undercover agent, so if you have some bad records but good spy skills, you might consider becoming a corporate spy, working for a big company spying on other companies and reporting it to the company you work for.
- If you don't work for the government, maybe you can work as a private investigator to build your reputation as a trusted sneaker and spy. This capability can attract companies that want to be informed about the secrets of their competitors.
- Working as a corporate spy, even though it's not exactly illegal, can be problematic if you sign an agreement that doesn't allow you to share company information. Sometimes, you need to work as a double agent, working for two different companies at the same time, and reporting back to the others about what happened.
Part 3 of 3: Disguise
Step 1. Learn about the culture and political climate of the places where you will be stationed
Once you know where you will be stationed and what you need to seek, gather or facilitate, it is very important to learn about the political climate in that place. If you go to the United Arab Emirates to find out about oil tycoons, you need to prepare differently than when you go to South Florida to join a militant group.
- Learn about the latest developments as well as historical details of the place where you are assigned. Learn about the local people and their culture, learn about the most dominant culture of the people who live there. What makes them like them? How are they different from you?
- Learn also the geographical conditions. If you're in Iraq and you need to know how long it will take to get from Baghdad to Kuwait and back before nightfall, you don't want to ask your iPhone for the answer.
Step 2. Come up with a good background story and reach out to some local connections
There is a possibility that you will get a fake identity when you are assigned to the field. Maybe you are a fruit-related worker, working for Dole in Southeast Asia, possibly looking for a location for a new operation. An outline of your identity will be provided, but you will need to develop specific details about your identity.
- Try to be like an actor. Your life will depend on your ability to play. Detailed stories about yourself, which you take from your real life can attract your enemies to dig deeper into your background and who you really are.
- For most jobs, you will need an assistant who can help you get to know the local culture, where the person may or may not know your status as a secret agent. If you have an assistant, it's a good idea to keep trying to find as many contacts and ways to know the local area as you can.
Step 3. Find out about your target
Get close to your enemy. Most of the time, you won't be spying on your target from a distance, seeing transactions with binoculars blurry. However, you will meet your target face to face, take the hard disk, and escape unnoticed. For this reason, it is very important that you can convince your target that you are a good person.
- Study your target's habits, what they like and don't like. If you know that morphine-dealing generals love high-end single-malt Scotch, chances are all you need to get an invitation to a dinner is a bottle of Laphroaig.
- If you're tasked with trailing your target, keep your distance and plan to run away if things don't go well. Getting caught following your target while your target is shopping for vegetables is not a good fit.
Step 4. Adapt
If you want to spy, you need to mix with the crowd and the community so you look like you're in the right environment. If you are spying on a location, have a good reason why you are there. Customize your clothes with your location, so you are not easily identified. Avoid attracting attention.
Give yourself enough time before you start your work. Mostly, you are expected not to do anything challenging or big. Most of you will relax and keep an eye on your surroundings. Don't rush and make the situation messy. Relax and think that learning to adapt to the environment is your top priority
Step 5. Stay aware of your surroundings
Don't get too comfortable. Learn to think and be resourceful in various situations. Try to practice new and useful ways of using the items you carry, or replace them with other items that can have multiple uses. Below are some abilities that a secret agent might find useful:
- Repairing the machine
- Throwing knife
- Repair radio
- Opening the handcuffs
Step 6. Gather knowledge
Be on the lookout for unusual things, things that distract your target from his routine, your location, or your situation. Even if you don't know why, it is important to report to your agency what happened and what your suspicions are about your target.
Use your instincts and work hard to hone your intuition when you're out on the field. In your entire career, chances are you'll never find someone saying "We're bringing that cocaine out tomorrow afternoon" over a voice tap. Criminals aren't stupid, and you need to learn to spot behavior patterns and read the people you're studying for what you want to know
Step 7. Use professional hardware and software (hardware and software)
Spying and surveillance tools can be very important to your job, and you will likely need to use sophisticated tools to help you. In today's world, secret listening devices are only as small as a microchip, and you will be well informed on how to use them before you are assigned. Depending on your job description, you may need to have sufficient time to monitor surveillance media, so be prepared for long periods of sitting, and listening to static electricity, or listening to the Chief Executive Officer of a gun company chat about horses with his women.
Step 8. Prepare a handy bag
A good secret agent is always ready with a bag with his essentials for an emergency. Have a box containing survival tools, all-weather armor, and emergency transmission kits in case you need to disappear and escape from your enemies, and your friends can know where you are at the same time.

- Always be calm and act reasonable.
- Control your emotions.
- Learn not to tell anyone that you are a secret agent.
- Be wary of people who are very nice to you, because they may know more about you than you know they know.
- Understand how to talk and spy.
- Learn to read lips.
- Try to surprise others
- You can survey places too!
- Only trust your team members.
- Buy formal clothes.
- Work with more than five secret agents, so you can take turns spying.
- Try to understand your friends, but also try to understand your enemies better.
- Follow the spy code - ask, observe and listen

- Your vigilance and ego must be controlled.
- If you carry a gun in public, you could get into trouble with the police, so don't bring anything that could leave people with more than a small bump or bruise!
- It's not like James Bond or Inspector Gadget! The secret agent could lose his life!
- You need to know the relevant laws and not do anything illegal, or you will get in big trouble with the police.
- Remember to stay aware of the situation.
