Do you like traveling through time and creating new things? Do you want to find a way to have fun, either alone or with your friends? Are you a creative person with a lot of free time? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, it's time to build a toy time machine. Follow the steps below to learn how.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Building the Exterior Frame
Step 1. Buy a cardboard box that is large enough for you to fit comfortably into it
A box the size of a refrigerator is ideal, but it can be difficult to find a box this big. The box must be rectangular. Here are some places you can go to look for boxes:
- Go to a hardware store and buy the biggest cardboard box they sell.
- Visit the grocery store. Grocery stores usually throw away unused cardboard boxes in the morning or evening. So you can ask them for it. Just don't choose a box that was previously a place to store very smelly food.
- Ask for an unused box from someone who recently moved house.
Step 2. Purchase silver and gold paint
Next, paint the outside of your box gold or silver-these are great futuristic colors. Make sure you use a paint that is safe for this coloring process. Do not use wall paint or paint that smells too strong; or, your health will be in jeopardy.
After the paint dries, sprinkle the squares with glitter
Step 3. Purchase building paper
Cut the paper into large circles or squares. After the paint on the box dries, stick these circles/squares on the outside of the box to make windows. Of course, this window is colored.
- Alternatively, you can make a real window on a cardboard box with a razor blade. This step may be a little difficult to do.
- You can also paint the windows on the outside of the box.
Method 2 of 3: Preparing the Inside of Your Machine
Step 1. Color the inside of the box
If you paint the outside silver, paint the inside gold, and vice versa. No need to spend as much time as when making the outside of the box. After all, only you will see the inside of the box.
Step 2. Create the buttons
Glue white building paper on the inside of the box and write the numbers 0-9 on it. These buttons are what you will use to set the time machine.
Step 3. Put the old phone in the time machine
You will need it in an emergency.
Step 4. Find a comfortable chair
Place a soft red pillow at the bottom of the time machine. You will need a seat as you will be traveling for a long time. You can also lay a red blanket over the bottom of the time machine.
Satin or velvet is best. The inside of your time machine should be classy
Step 5. Add more technology
Set up your old computer joystick in a time machine. You may need to control the engine. You can also use an old modem to help with your trip.
Anything that has wires, regular buttons, or buttons that can light up will work fine on your time machine. Just don't bring anything that could hurt you
Step 6. Don't forget some other needs
Have a bottle of water, dry snacks, and a calculator handy, or you'll be starving and bored along the way.
Step 7. Turn on your time machine
Once your engine is ready, all you have to do is turn it on. Speak in a robotic voice and start pressing the buttons. Type something into the calculator and move your joystick to give it a more real feel.
You can also scream wildly and hit the engine like a mad scientist if something goes wrong
Method 3 of 3: Playing in a Time Machine
Step 1. Go to sleep
For the time machine to work, you must either fall asleep or pass out. This can happen while you're reading a book about time travel, or when there's a "fake" explosion that pops up when you try to fix the knobs on the time machine.
Close your eyes for a few minutes. When you reopen it, you've moved time
Step 2. Create the effect for the working time machine
You have to do something to show that your time machine is working. Your friends can make a buzzing sound effect, or you can play some scary "time machine" music. Try music from the Twilight Zone movies. Here are some ways to show that your time machine is working:
- Have someone flash the lights while you're in the machine, or do this yourself.
- Prepare the fog machine and turn it on while the time machine is running. Do this only if the machine is safe to use in the yard, garage, or other open area where your time machine is built.
- Have someone blow soap bubbles around you.
- You can also ask someone to throw some confetti/glitter, but be aware that this can make a mess of the area around your time machine.
- Turn on the noisy fan and point it at the time machine.
- When his voice slows down, one of your friends can say "process done" in a robotic voice.
Step 3. Get out and step into a new era
Once the time machine has done its job, you've officially moved into a new era. Before truly enjoying this magical time-traveling trip, there are a few things you should do to make the most of this experience:
- Set up a worn look for yourself. You've just traveled through hundreds, thousands, or even millions of years, of course your clothes will be a little worn and torn. When you step out of the time machine, you can raise your hair or add dark makeup on your cheeks as a sign that you're "shocked" by the time-traveling experience.
- Make sure the time machine is surrounded by objects from your destination time period.
- Your friends should also wear clothes from your destination time.
- As you explore your surroundings and new friends, act confused. Create a chaotic atmosphere.
- You might even decide that you're better off going home and trying to get into your time machine again. However, be careful - your time machine may not work anymore!
Tips
- Decide in advance the time period you want to visit. That way, you can prepare the right clothes for your friends so they can wear them when you exit the time machine.
- Everyone around you should like and help build a time machine. Don't include skeptics in your time machine team!
Warning
- Tell your parents before you start building a time machine. They will keep you out of harm's way.
- Don't use wall paint to color the time machine, or you will feel dizzy and nauseous.
