Appcake is an app that allows users who have a jailbroken iOS device to download paid apps for free so they can try them out before buying the app. iOS users who use Cydia to jailbreak their devices can install Appcake directly from the Cydia app.

Step

Step 1. Launch the Cydia app from the Home screen on your iOS device

It can take up to a few minutes for the app to load if there are multiple updates available.

Step 2. Tap “Sources” at the bottom of the Cydia Home screen

Step 3. Tap on "Edit" located at the top right corner of your screen

Step 4. Tap on "Add" which is shown in the top left corner

A dialog box will be displayed on the screen.

Step 5. Type "cydia.iphonecake.com" into the dialog box and tap "Add Source

Step 6. Tap “Add anyway” when asked if you want to add this source

Your iOS device will take a while to download the resources needed to run Appcake.

Step 7. Tap “Return to Cydia” to return to the Sources screen once all sources have finished updating for Appcake

Step 8. Tap on “cydia

iphonecake.com."

Step 9. Tap "Appcake"

(If your device is iOS7)

If your device is iOS4, tap "AppCake(for iOS4.2&lower)".
If your device is iOS6, tap "AppCake for iOS6".

Step 10. Tap on “Install,” then tap on “Confirm” located at the top right corner of your session

Appcake will start installing.

If you are using iOS 7, you will also be asked to install a patch called "AppSync Patch iOS 7.x" so that Appcake can run efficiently on your device. This patch can be installed directly from the Source screen

Step 11. Tap "Restart Springboard" when the prompt appears on the screen to complete the installation process for Appcake successfully

When installing Appcake, multiple users may see an app named "AppSync" downloaded at the same time. This app is required to be used with Appcake on iOS devices that never used Installous before they downloaded Appcake

Step 12. Now Appcake will be displayed on your Home screen and ready to use

Tips

Download Appcake if you have previously used Installous, but can no longer access the app due to an error message. Appcake is an alternative to Installous and works in the same way that you can download paid apps for free so you can try them before you buy them
