After prolonged use, the eyeglass frames may loosen slightly, hurt your nose and ears, or look bent. You can take your glasses to an optometrist for adjustments or you can easily adjust your glasses yourself by following the steps in this article.
Step
Step 1. Look in the mirror
Position the glasses so that the center of the lens is at the center of your eye. This is called the optical center point and is the ideal position for your glasses. All adjustments to your glasses should aim to achieve this optical position.
Step 2. Align the handles of your glasses
The eyeglass handles are around the ears and hold the eyeglass frames in place. Place the glasses on a table or on a flat surface. If it looks bent or bent, manual adjustment is required.
- For metal frames, gently bend the hilt of the glasses with small pliers until they are straight. Put on the glasses and look in the mirror to see if they are correct. Wrap the pliers with tape or duct tape so they don't scratch the frames of your glasses.
- For plastic frames, the plastic handles must be heated with warm air, such as through a hairdryer, to make the plastic bend. Gently slide the plastic up with your hands until it's in the position you want. Be careful when using a hairdryer as it can melt the plastic. Another way is to heat a glass of water in the microwave for 2-3 minutes and dip the stem of the glasses in the water for 10 seconds.
- If your glasses look aligned when worn but appear bent when placed on a flat surface, this indicates that your ear is on the higher side. The hilt of the glasses should be bent to the height of the person's ear.
Step 3. Adjust the ends of your glasses
If the glasses are too narrow, bend the ends outward. If it's too loose, bend the ends inward.
Step 4. Tighten the screws on each side of the glasses holder
This will keep the glasses from falling off your nose and keep the lenses in the frame.
Step 5. Adjust the nose pad
If the position of the glasses is too high on your face, then the two nose pads need to be moved slightly apart. Conversely, if the position of the glasses is too low, then the nose pad needs to be brought closer.
