Growing and styling a beard doesn't mean leaving it on for months. The treatment requires more effort than many men think. However, with proper guidance and patience, you can manage and style your beard with ease.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Extend the beard
Step 1. Eat a healthy diet
A healthy diet in general makes skin and hair, including beard, better.
Step 2. Don't give in to the itch
When your hair starts to grow into a beard, you will likely feel itchy for a few weeks. Although it may be uncomfortable, don't give up because the itching will go away. You have to survive!
You can also buy a special conditioning lotion to help soothe an itchy beard during this period
Step 3. Let the beard grow
The best thing you can do to make a really long beard is to let it grow. You will probably look like a lunatic for a few weeks. However, if shaved or shaped, the beard can have small areas that could make your plans to grow the beard backwards for a month or more.
Since beards don't grow at the same rate, it's difficult to determine how long they will grow. However, you should wait until the beard is about 2.5-3.8 cm long before shaving or shaping it
Part 2 of 3: Caring for a Beard
Step 1. Clean the beard with shampoo
Just like with hair, facial cleansers or soaps should not be used to clean the beard. Use shampoo to clean your beard every 2 days. However, you can also adjust it to oily or dry skin types.
Using a moisturizing shampoo will keep your beard healthy and not fall out easily
Step 2. Use conditioner
Even if you don't use conditioner on your hair, you should use it regularly on your beard. Beards are more prone to fall out and conditioner will keep them soft and healthy.
You can even use a leave-in conditioner that doesn't need to be rinsed off
Step 3. Apply beard oil
Beard oil is a special conditioning oil that helps make beard healthier. Apply a small amount of the oil thoroughly on the beard after showering in the morning.
Some men even like to use a boar bristle brush to apply it to their beards
Step 4. Use non-comedogenic products
Non-comedogenic means that the product will not clog pores. If you use certain products on your beard, such as pomade, look for products labeled as non-comedogenic to help avoid stains or ingrown hairs.
Part 3 of 3: Shave the beard
Step 1. Comb your beard neatly
Just like when your stylist combs your hair before cutting it, do the same for your beard. You may particularly prefer a wide-toothed comb or a boar bristle brush for combing your beard.
Step 2. Shave the sides of the beard with an electric shaver
It's best to trim the thick beard around the corn with scissors if you want a long or spiky beard. However, you can also use a razor to shave the beard on the sides and around the cheeks.
- Start with a longer setting on the shaver. Almost all beard trimmers can shave the length you want. Since it's easier to shave a bit than to lengthen it again, start with a longer setting and work your way down gradually until you find the setting you want.
- Whatever tool you use, be it scissors or a razor, always shave your beard when it's dry.
Step 3. Shave the beard with scissors slowly and gradually
When using scissors, start at the bottom of the vine and cut little by little.
- Use the comb along with the scissors to keep the beard trimmed to an even length.
- Even if you start shaving at the bottom, you don't have to shape it all at once. You can trim one side of the beard to shape it then do the same on the other side.
Step 4. Trim the beard
Sometimes, the difference between a well-groomed beard and an untidy beard is the neatness of the ends. Trimming the top of the cheeks, cleaning the neckline, and trimming the mustache (if you have one) are important in beard care.
The standard way to determine your neckline is to look at your appearance in 3 mirrors (on each side of your face) and imagine a slightly curved line from behind your nostrils to the top of your Adam's apple. Shaving below that line will make the neckline look neat and natural
Tips
- Even if you want to grow your beard, you should shave it every two months.
- Remember to let the beard grow to a length of 2.5-3.8 cm before trying to shape it.
- Washing it every day can make the beard too dry. Start by cleaning your beard three times a week and adjust it to your skin and hair type.
- When shaving with scissors, do it slowly and firmly so that the beard doesn't have to be lengthened again for several weeks or months.
