Streaming services like Netflix and Hulu are now so popular that it can be difficult to find downloadable movies. While there are a number of services that provide movies for offline viewing, you shouldn't actually save the movies on a USB flash drive (flash drive). This wikiHow teaches you how to legally download movies from the internet and save them to a flash drive.
Step
Step 1. Find the movie you want to download
Downloading commercial movies on the internet is illegal, unless the movies are freely available in the public domain. This means that downloading Avengers for free from a torrent site can result in a fine of $750 to $30,000 or around Rp. 10 million to Rp. 420 million. This is indeed a very expensive film! Instead of doing this, we recommend that you download movies from some of the sources below to avoid legal issues:
- Internet Archive's Feature Films
- Vuze StudioHD Network (requires Bittorrent client)
- Public Domain Torrents (requires Bittorrent client).
- Check out How to Download YouTube Videos to learn how to download existing videos on YouTube. Don't forget to ask permission first.
- There are many movie torrent sites on the internet. Remember, it's illegal to download copyrighted movies and you're likely to get caught (especially if you don't use a secure VPN).
Step 2. Download the video file to your computer
How to do this will depend on the site you visit. If you are using the Internet Archive or another non-torrent site, you can click on the title of the film and select the link Download. The button may be an inverted arrow or it may contain the size and/or resolution of the video. If you're using a torrent site, such as Public Domain Torrents or Vuze, follow the steps below:
- Install a Bittorrent client if you don't already have one. Some of the popular clients include the native uTorrent and BitTorrent.
- Click the title of the video, then select the link Download, which may take the form of a down arrow or a link that says the size and/or resolution of the video. This will download a file with the extension ".torrent " onto your computer.
- Double-click the.torrent file you just downloaded (it can be found in the default downloads folder). The BitTorrent client will be opened.
- If the BitTorrent client has not been set up, you will usually be asked to specify where to save the downloaded file. After that, the download will start immediately.
Step 3. Plug the flash drive into the computer
Plug the flash drive into the USB port on the computer case.
Tip:
If your computer doesn't have a standard USB-A port, you'll need to purchase a Thunderbolt 3-to-USB adapter or use a USB-C flash drive.
Step 4. Copy the movie file
Click the downloaded movie file, then press Ctrl+C (on Windows) or Command+C (on Mac) to copy it. On Mac computers, you can also copy files by clicking Edit, then select Copy (movie file name).
Step 5. Open This PC (Windows) or Finder
(Mac).
On a Windows computer, click the search field, type this pc, then press Enter. On a Mac, click the 2-colored smiley face icon in the Dock (usually at the bottom of the screen).
Step 6. Open the flash drive
For Windows users, double-click the flash drive icon in the middle pane. On Mac computers, click the flash drive in the left pane.
If you're using Windows and don't find anything under the " Devices and drives " heading, double-click this heading
Step 7. Right-click an empty space on the flash drive and select Paste
Doing so will copy the movie onto the flash drive. This can take a while if the film size is large.
If you're on a Mac, you can also click Edit and choose Paste.
Step 8. Eject the flash drive
Once the movie files have been successfully copied to the flash drive, you can safely eject the flash drive. On a Mac, click the up arrow to the right of the flash drive's name in the left pane. On Windows, click the flash disk icon in the lower right corner, then select Eject.
Step 9. Remove the flash drive from the computer
When prompted, you can remove the flash drive from the computer port.
Tips
- Make sure you download movies from trusted sources.
- If you're using a well-known torrent site (such as Pirate Bay), first check the ratings and comments on each torrent to make sure the movie is completely safe. Don't download movies that don't have ratings or comments (or are poorly rated).
- When downloading torrents, you may encounter other files in your download that you don't need or want, such as sample images or text files. Usually you can uncheck unwanted files so you don't have to download them.
