This wikiHow teaches you how to install and use Torrent to download movies. The torrent file contains the data for the file you want to download. BitTorrent management programs like Torrent use this information to download files from other users' computers. When the file is finished downloading, other users can download the same file from the computer. However, keep in mind that downloading movies is illegal in most countries, and you could get into trouble with law enforcement or internet service providers. Therefore, you are at your own risk from downloading movies using torrents.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Installing Torrent
Step 1. Understand the risks you have
Downloading movies that you didn't legally buy is generally considered a violation of law in most countries and can result in hefty copyright fines or even imprisonment. BitTorrent websites usually feature explicit adult content and intrusive advertisements or malware that can harm computers. Make sure you know what to click on and download before taking the risk of harming your computer. Your IP address is public and may be recorded by companies that will take legal action against you if you hijack the internet, unless additional privacy measures have been taken.
Step 2. Type https://www.utorrent.com/ into your browser's URL bar
The address directs you to the Torrent website. This service is one of the more popular bitTorrent management programs.
Step 3. Click Download Torrent Web or swipe the screen and select Download Torrent Classic.
There are two versions of Torrent available. Torrent Web works through a web browser. Meanwhile, Torrent Classic is a separate application that you need to download and run on your computer.
- You may need to temporarily disable your antivirus program in order to install Torrent.
- You may need to click the “ Save ” or specify a location where the download will be saved before the file can be downloaded, depending on your browser settings.
Step 4. Install Torrent
The installation process will differ depending on the computer operating system. Watch the download process carefully. Torrent offers some additional programs that you may not want to download. Follow these steps to download and install Torrent.
-
Windows:
- Double-click the Torrent installation file.
- Click " Yes ” when prompted.
- Click " Next " twice.
- Click " agree ”.
- Uncheck the box that offers installation of additional programs.
- Select a shortcut option and click “ Next ”.
- Click back" Next ”.
- Click " Decline ” on the recommended programs.
- Click " Finish ” to complete the installation.
-
Mac:
- Open the uTorrent installation file.
- Drag the Torrent icon to the " Applications " folder.
Step 5. Open Torrent
Just double click the Torrent icon to open the program. Torrent Classic will display the Torrent desktop application. Meanwhile, Torrent Web will display Torrent in the tab of the web browser. You are now ready to download movies using Torrent.
Part 2 of 2: Downloading Movies Via Torrent
Step 1. Open your desired web browser
It is recommended that you use a supported web browser such as Edge, Chrome, or Firefox as Internet Explorer may already be too “vulnerable” to access most torrent websites.
Step 2. Search for torrent websites
Torrent sites sometimes work or simply “dead” for legal reasons so you need to find a site that does work, instead of relying on a specific torrent website. Use Google to search for the keyword "torrents". You will find many websites featuring the best and latest torrent sites.
- The Pirate Bay is the most visited torrent site.
- https://www.publicdomaintorrents.info/ allows you to legally download non-copyrighted movies.
Step 3. Type the title of the movie into the search bar, then press Enter key
You can usually find the search bar at the top of the page, although each site has a slightly different layout. Search for keywords to display a list of search results.
Use of more specific keywords (eg "Blair Witch 2016", instead of "Blair Witch") can lead to more specific entries
Step 4. Look for a “healthy” torrent
When downloading torrents, there are a few things you need to pay attention to:
- Seeder: Seeders are users who allow other users to download video content from their computers. The number in the " SEED " column on the right side of the page should ideally be greater than (or equal to) the number in the " LEECH " column.
- File details: Make sure the file name, category, and other information in the title match what you're looking for.
- Quality (for videos): Look for the (at least) "720p" attribute in the title ("1080p" is the more ideal option) or higher because the movie files on the torrent are DVD quality or better. Movies with lower resolutions are of poorer quality.
Step 5. Click the torrent to review the review
There are a few things to look out for in a review:
- Comment: Specifically, look for comments indicating whether the torrent is safe, as well as comments on file quality.
- Evaluation: Make sure the torrent has a lower number of negative reviews and a higher number of positive reviews.
Step 6. Download torrents
Click the button " Download ” on a site usually labeled “ Download Torrent ”, “ Get this torrent, or something like that (eg. Download [filename] ”).
Some torrent websites are filled with fake ads that look like download buttons but will instead redirect you to another site. Therefore, be careful what you click on
Step 7. Double-click the torrent file to open it in Torrent
You can also drag and drop torrent files directly into the running Torrent window. Once the file is dropped, the movie file will immediately be downloaded to your computer.
Step 8. Select the location to save the download
By default, most videos that you download from a torrent manager program will be downloaded to the "Downloads" folder. To change the storage location, click “ Change ” and select the desired directory.
Step 9. Click OK or Add.
The torrent file will be added to the download list.
Step 10. Wait for the file to finish downloading
You can see the download progress in the bar under " Status ". Downloading can take a while, depending on the number of seeders available and the connection speed. If you are downloading multiple files, the earlier downloads will take priority.
Once the file has finished downloading, you should see a "Seeding" status to the right of the torrent name. The status indicates that you are now sharing the movie file data for other people who also want to download the same movie
Step 11. Perform a virus scan on the downloaded file
Before watching the video, scan the file to make sure it is safe to open.
Step 12. Click the downloaded file to watch it
Once the file has finished downloading, you can open it in your media player app.
Tips
Try downloading movies from verified users or have high feedback and ratings on torrent sites. Verified users usually upload valid, high-quality torrent files
Warning
- Torrent sites and files are frequent sources of viruses and malware infections. Before using Torrent or visiting a torrent search engine, make sure that your computer is running an updated antivirus or anti-malware program to reduce the risk of virus infection. This is important to remember, especially if you are using a Windows computer.
- Download torrent files at your own risk.
