Method 1 of 2: Using a Tablet or Phone
Step 1. Launch Facebook Messenger
The icon is in the form of a speech bubble in which there is a white lightning bolt. This app is on your home screen or app drawer (on Android devices).
If you are not signed in yet, follow the instructions given on the screen to sign in
Step 2. Touch the contact icon
The icon is a bulleted list at the bottom of the screen, next to a large blue circle.
Step 3. Touch Active located at the top of the screen
A list of all friends who are currently active on Messenger will be shown here. Friends who are online will be marked with a green circle on their profile picture.
Method 2 of 2: Using a Computer
Step 1. Launch a web browser and visit
This is the official Messenger app from Facebook.
Step 2. Log in to your Facebook account
If signed in, a list of current Messenger conversations will be displayed. If not logged in, click Continue as (your name) or type in your login information when prompted.
Step 3. Click the blue gear icon in the top left corner
Step 4. Click Active Contacts
A list of currently active Messenger contacts will be displayed.
