Wasps are a common pest and can be frustrating. The pests can also be quite dangerous if they nest in the area where you live because some people have allergies to wasps. If you want to get rid of a wasp or want to eradicate its nest, it is important to learn how to keep it safe and to get rid of the pest effectively. There's a wide variety of info and ways to help keep your home wasp-free.

Method 1 of 3: Handling a Wasp

Step 1. First of all, make sure that the animal is not a bee

Not all yellow-black insects with stingers are wasps. There is a stark difference between wasps, wasps, and honeybees. Before opening a window, make sure you don't open a window that leads directly to the wasp's nest outside.
If you are outside and see a wasp, so be it. Hitting a wasp can invite other wasps, so it can be quite dangerous.

Step 3. Trapping a wasp with a container

Use a small container with a lid to trap the wasps and release them outdoors. Wait for the wasp to land somewhere, then move quietly with the open container and a piece of paper. Place the container on the wasps that are perched on a wall or table, then slip a piece of paper underneath to trap the wasps in the container.

Always wait for the wasp to land on an easily accessible surface before you try to trap it. If you trap him carelessly, then you will be stung more than trapping him.
If you have allergies, don't do this alone. Have someone else try to trap the wasps, or open a window and let the animal go. If you must do it anyway, wear thick gloves and cover your entire body before trying to trap him.
Let go of the wasps for the easiest and most humane way to get rid of the wasps. If you are using a piece of paper, leave the paper on top of the container and the beats in the container as you move backwards. The wind will blow the paper out of the container and the wasps will run away.

Step 4. Make a wasp trap out of a plastic bottle

Wasp traps are shaped like a slippery funnel with soapy water at the bottom of the trap to trap the wasps. These traps are often made of glass and are commercially available, but you can make your own using an old plastic bottle.

Use a razor to cut the top of a two-liter plastic soda bottle, turning the nozzle so that it fits inside the empty bottle. Glue the two together using adhesive tape. Pour water into an empty bottle about half the height of the bottle.
Pour a few drops of soap into the water and shake the bottle until it's bubbly, then brush the neck of the bottle with honey, jam or other sticky sweet object to attract the wasps' attention. Ideally, the wasp would slip into the water, causing its wings to become filled with soapy water and trapped.

Step 5. Hit the wasps if necessary

Any flying animal is easily hit by a fly swatter. Cheap, plastic fly swatter is a popular pest control tool for many reasons. These objects are considered easy to use and quite effective, if you use them properly.

Hold the fly swatter and wait for the wasp to land somewhere within your reach. Wasps tend to fly more often than flies, but they will land on them from time to time and you can hit them.
Flick your wrist to hit the wasp with the bat. Wasps will often be unconscious, so you can poke them and throw them out of the house. The animal can regain consciousness and fly outside or it can die. Don't hit it or squeeze it constantly on the table.

Step 1. Remove the nest at the beginning of the year

The nests are designed by the queens and built by the workers in early spring. Wasp colonies grow during late spring and early summer until they reach their maximum size around August. Wasps are most aggressive and protective at the end of summer, which makes it very dangerous to get rid of them at this time.

At the beginning of the year, wasp nests are smaller and easier to handle. Get in the habit of patrolling the area around your home for wasp nests early in the season, before they grow to a dangerous size. If you kill the queen, there is no risk of the nest rebuilding in the same year.
At the end of the season, you are better off waiting and letting the freezing air kill the pests for the next 30-60 days. Then, you can drop the empty nest to ensure that the wasps don't nest again next year.

Step 2. Wear protective clothing

When you are going to hunt wasps, you need to keep yourself protected. You may not need to wear a full chemical protective suit, but taking precautions can help you prevent the worst if you are swarmed by wasps.

You need to wear thick long-sleeved clothes, long pants, thick gloves, a hood that can cover your entire face and protect your eyes. Do not reduce the layers and thickness of clothing even if it is very hot outside.
If you're swarmed by wasps, it's important not to think about it too much: run as fast as you can from the wasps. While some people report that rocking clothes or twirling around is effective at shaking up a crowd, the best way to get rid of a crowd is to run as fast as you can and go inside.

Step 3. Find the nest

If you have a persistent wasp problem in your area, it can be frustrating. Don't hit them one by one. Get rid of the source and let them escape from your home. Finding and getting rid of the nest will solve your problem. The wasp's nest is quite small, while the wasp's nest is larger and more round, like a dry ball.

Wasps tend to build their nests in loose mounds of wood, along rafters or in infrequently used waste baskets. Check under porch gaps and in any area around your home with large empty spaces and building gaps.

Some of the aerosol sprays sold in the market can be used from a distance of about 6m, thus keeping you safe from the nest. ECO PCO spray is made from a botanical mixture, so it is considered safer than chemical-based sprays.
In addition, precipitating spray insecticides such as D-Fense SC and Cyper WP can be used in the area around the nest, thereby indirectly killing wasps from a safe distance.
Always follow the directions for use when using any spray pesticide.

Step 5. Use wasp repellent ash

Insecticide ash is an effective long-term way to treat wasps because its efficacy is maintained for up to six months, so it can deter wasps for longer. The ash is easy to use and widely available.

Tempo Dust, Sevin Garden Dust, or Dusters are effective brands for getting rid of wasp nests.
Use ashes around the nest hole early in the morning, using about a quarter cup in the surrounding area. Don't clog the nest holes, so the wasps can move freely and scatter the ashes on their own.
One of the dangers of using ash is its effectiveness: i.e. it can remain dangerous for a long time. If you have pets or small children, using ash in nests near your home can be dangerous. Be careful.

Step 6. Use soap and water

This method may seem old fashioned, but with good aim, soapy water can be an effective way to destroy nests and kill wasps with household appliances.

Mix about a third cup of dish soap into about 2 liters of water and pour it into a spray bottle you can find. You need to stand quite far from the nest when you spray it with bubbly water.
Shake the bubbly water to combine the water and soap, then spray the soapy water around the nest hole and walk away. Reuse the soapy water several times over a few days.

Step 7. Use smoke and water

An effective natural way to get rid of wasps is to mix natural wood smoke and water to eradicate the wasps from the area. When the wasps sense a fire in the area, they will leave the nest so you can destroy it safely.

Use a small drill to make a small fire in the wood at the bottom of the nest. Let the smoke rise continuously for one to two hours until the wasps are gone.
Return to the area with the water hose and uproot the nest. If necessary, hit it with a stick to destroy it.

Method 3 of 3: Making Your Home Not Wasp Friendly

Step 1. Get rid of nests that have been abandoned in winter

Wearing thick clothing and thick rubber gloves will allow you to remove debris from nests that have been left behind after the wasps have been exterminated, or during winter when freezing air has naturally killed the wasps.

It is important to dispose of the nest in the bin properly after you have sprayed the insecticide on the nest. Use a hammer or plank to knock down the nest and remove it from the area. If you leave the nest attached, it will be filled again with wasps.
Protective clothing still needs to be worn just in case. Even when you are sure that the wasps are gone, you still need to protect yourself from any residual insecticide as well as any stray wasps.

Step 2. Close the gaps in your home

Wasps often build their nests in small crevices and safe areas that open to the outdoors. Knowing these areas when the wasps are developing and closing them to prevent the nest from developing can solve problems before they start.

Use a silicone sealing agent. Apply a small amount of sealing agent along any cracks you find, then smooth them out using a scraper or your finger. Allow the sealing agent to dry according to the manufacturer's directions

Step 3. Remove mounds of wood and trash from your yard

Wasps often build nests on mounds of firewood or on piles of garbage. If you have mounds of garden tools, miscellaneous items from your home, try to keep them as clean as possible. Otherwise, the wasps will build their nests there.

Step 4. Remove rotting fruit under fruit trees

Wasps are more likely to occupy areas where there is a lot of food to eat. If you have fruit trees near your home, remove rotting fruit as much and as quickly as possible, or the wasps will be attracted to the area even more.

In general, wasps will be attracted to fruit trees whether you clean the fruit or not. However, cleaning the fruit is still necessary to keep the wasps under control

Step 5. Keep the trash can outside tightly closed

Decomposing food debris can also bring in wasps, so it's important to keep outdoor trash cans tightly closed to avoid wasps nesting there. If necessary, replace your trash can regularly, if it can attract wasps.
