Wasps, like bees, are not really nuisance animals. Both help pollinate plants and have a positive effect on the environment. However, when around humans, wasps are known to be aggressive. In addition, there are many people who are allergic to wasp stings, as a result of which these animals can be very dangerous. Removing wasp nests before they grow is key to controlling them. Meanwhile, if a wasp enters your home, try using a natural insect repellent that is safe for your home and family.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Using the Soda Bottle Trap
Step 1. Prepare the equipment
These traps are easy to make and can be placed in a corner of a room where wasps are frequent.
- Scissors
- Empty plastic bottle (2 liter volume)
- duct tape
- Bait (diluted dish soap)
Step 2. Remove the bottle cap and cut off a third of the bottle body
Be sure to use scissors with care. You can also use a cutter knife if it is difficult to cut the bottle with scissors.
Step 3. Place the bait at the bottom of the bottle
Add vinegar to it to attract wasps, but not bees.
Step 4. Turn over the top third of the bottle and tuck it into the bottom
These two parts will form the house bug trap.
Step 5. Glue the two halves of the bottle together and place them anywhere
The wasp will be attracted to close, then enter the neck of the bottle and trapped at the bottom to death.
If you want to hang the trap, heat the ends of two wires and thread them through both sides of the bottle. Hang the bottle after the wire is firmly attached
Step 6. Make sure to empty these traps regularly
Dead wasps can help other wasps float and stay alive in the trap.
Method 2 of 4: Using Fake Nests
Step 1. Prepare the equipment for making a fake nest
Wasps are territorial animals and will not build nests if they sense that another colony is living nearby. In addition, wasps will also leave if they sense that another colony has moved into their territory. If the colony moves further away from your home, the wasps in your house will also leave.
- Plastic bags
- paper bag
- Paper cut
- Wire
Step 2. Fill the plastic bag with paper strips
This section will become the inside of the nest. The plastic bag should be filled with paper scraps as this is the main building of the nest. The plastic bag serves to maintain its shape.
Squeeze the paper bag so it looks like a nest. Once the paper bag is crumpled, open it again and put the plastic bag inside
Step 3. Hang your homemade nest
Use wire to hang this artificial nest near the wasp nest. The location should be close enough for the wasps to notice it.
Step 4. Open the windows of the house and let the wasps out
Close the door to the room where the wasp is. However, open the window so the wasps can get out. The wasp will go and move with the colony.
Method 3 of 4: Making Natural Insecticide Spray
Step 1. Be careful
Using insecticides requires that you approach the wasp so it is not recommended if you are allergic to its stings.
Step 2. Prepare the materials you need
Instead of using ordinary insecticides that can harm the family, natural insecticides do not contain harmful ingredients. To make it, all you need is a spray bottle, witch hazel, and peppermint essential oil.
Step 3. Make your own insecticide solution
Pour in distilled water and witch hazel 1:1 until the spray bottle is almost full. Add 30-50 drops of peppermint essential oil.
Step 4. Spray on wasps that enter the house
Peppermint oil will stick to the wasp's body, making it difficult for the wasp to fly and eventually die.
Method 4 of 4: Prevent Wasps From Coming
Step 1. Store groceries
Just like other animals, wasps are attracted by food, especially sweets and processed meats, including pet food. So, make sure to tie trash bags tightly, keep bird feeders away from the house, and don't leave food unopened.
Step 2. Close the entrance
Check for cracks, cracks, and tears in the vents, windows, and doors of the house. Fix this problem so the wasps can't re-enter the house.
Step 3. Avoid hitting the wasps
Beating wasps is an unhelpful move. When its body is destroyed, the wasp will release pheromones to attract other wasps around. So, you should avoid flying wasps.
