If you want to try the Brazilian wax look but are unsure if your sensitive area should be handled by a stranger, you can carefully shave the area yourself which will give you the same results, and without pain. You can become a pro by following the instructions below to shave the bikini area safely, easily and completely.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Shaving the Front
Step 1. Determine the shape of the mon pubis (pubic hair below the navel) that you want
Choose a shape that makes you feel feminine and sexy. There are several options for you:
- Shave everything. There's no risk whatsoever if you want to shave off all the hair as long as you don't hurt yourself.
- Use a stencil. Glue a stencil, such as a heart, over your pubic area. Then, shave the pubic hair that is outside the stencil to leave the hair under the stencil in the shape you want. You can get stencils in various forms at stores that sell adult items or online.
- Draw a long line. This line that runs from the vagina to the navel, can be a thin line (perfect for thick and tangled hair) or a slightly wider line (for thin and sparse hair).
Step 2. Trim your pubic hair with scissors to a length of 6mm before shaving it off with a razor
You can use a razor that comes with gel and contains more than one razor, but you still have to be careful when shaving. Long hair will not be able to be shaved efficiently if it is not trimmed first.
- To trim your hair efficiently, pull your hair up and cut it in small increments. It doesn't have to be cut evenly, but you should trim it short.
- If trimming with scissors makes you uncomfortable, use an electric shaver with a non-rotating head. The knife used in the tool will not hurt your skin.
Step 3. Soften your hair with a shower
You can also soak for a while in the tub before shaving your pubic hair. Soft hair follicles make hair easier to shave. If you want to wash the area, clean it before you start shaving to avoid skin irritation.
If you can't shower (and are desperate to get a haircut in the bikini area - maybe you're stranded on a desert island), take a damp cloth and apply it to the area for 5 to 10 minutes. This action will have the same effect as taking a shower
Step 4. Exfoliation
You'll likely meet someone who tells you to apply the methods in order: lather, shave, and exfoliate. But if you want to be a professional pubic barber (who doesn't want to?!), do some pre- and post-shave exfoliation. This will align all of your hair in the same direction, so you can shave ten times easier. This treatment can also remove dead skin cells, and allow the razor to move closer to the hair roots.
Use the normal exfoliating technique for this section. Grab your loofah and head outside as usual
Step 5. Wet the area with warm water and apply a gentle shaving gel over it
This is a very important action. Never shave without lubricant. If you don't use shaving cream, your skin will be red, freckled, and messy. Nobody wants that.
-
Use an unscented shaving cream designed for the bikini area. If you have very sensitive skin, apply a small amount of cream before you apply it all over the area. Occasionally, people can experience an allergic reaction.
Buy a shower gel that's transparent and non-foaming so you can see what you're doing while you're shaving
Step 6. Wet the new razor briefly
It is best to choose a razor that contains a lot of razor blades. The fewer razors there are (and the longer the razor lasts), the longer it will take to shave the area (not counting the time spent applying shaving cream). For a good shave, use a razor equipped with a lubricating pad.
Razors can be reused if you take good care of them. Wash the razor after use, but don't let it stay wet, as water can rust, dull, and dull the razor
Step 7. Shave in slow, long strokes along the direction of hair growth
This will cut each strand of hair straight so that no hair remains on the skin. Place your hand on your stomach just above the pubic hair so that the skin above the hair is smooth and tight.
- When shaving, let the razor do its job. Do not press the razor into your skin. Do not scratch the razor too much, as each stroke will also strip the surface of the skin.
- If you have thick, curly hair, and you're having a hard time shaving it off, try using an electric razor to trim it before you use a regular razor for the finishing touches.
- Rinse your razor when the blade is full of hair.
Method 2 of 3: Shaving the Groin Area
Step 1. Lift and bend one of your legs towards the waist
Try to start with the opposite foot of your dominant hand (for example, if you are left-handed, start with your right foot). Usually, that side is easier and quicker to do. By bending down, you will be able to see the area clearly. If necessary, rest your raised leg against the bathroom wall or sink.
The process for this section is the same as the process described above when it comes to exfoliating. However, ingrown hairs rarely appear in this area, so the hardest part is over
Step 2. Wet and apply shaving gel on the area
Be careful not to get gel or other bath products on the labia. If the gel gets splashed with water, you'll need to reapply it.
Step 3. Shave in smooth horizontal motions from the outside to the inside
This means that if you're shaving the left side, you're shaving from left to right. Use a light touch. Stop scratching the razor before it reaches the center of the labium. Rinse off any remaining gel when you're done shaving one side of the body.
- Spread your legs wider so that the part of the skin you shave is tighter, so your skin won't crease and wrinkle when you shave.
- Shave the side of the labia and the rest of the thigh using the same technique.
Method 3 of 3: Preventing Irritation
Step 1. Exfoliate again
You might think, "This again?" Yes. Here again! Exfoliating after removing dead skin with a razor can align the follicles to prevent ingrown hairs (don't let that happen to you).
You can apply the paste on the area. If you're not in the shower, make a paste of baking soda to make your skin smooth. This is an extreme shaving technique, but promises very satisfying results
Step 2. Pat with a soft towel to dry your bikini area
Don't rub vigorously, as this can irritate your skin. This treatment alone is already making your skin miserable!
If any hair is still missing, pluck it out with tweezers to give the area a finishing touch. Even if you've spent hours shaving, sometimes you still miss a few strands of hair
Step 3. Apply moisturizer
Use something unscented, and avoid perfume as it can cause irritation, especially on freshly shaved skin. Aloe vera and baby oil are good choices.
Also avoid ingredients that contain dyes. If you use lotion, choose the simplest one. If you want, you can spray on the fragrance when your skin is back to normal
Step 4. Apply baby powder on your pubic area
You can also apply baby lotion to the area to reduce irritation. But don't overdo it! Your skin can't breathe if you cover it with a large amount of lotion, and that can lead to acne and other similar ailments. And do not let the lotion into your vagina!
Step 5. Give it a few days if you want to shave again
To prevent hair from growing faster, you can use other hair removal techniques, such as wax or laser hair removal. Shaving is a safe and good practice, but it requires constant maintenance.
Tips
- Don't shave dry or without using a gel or cream.
- Don't shave in the same place over and over again! This can cause ingrown hairs which can be painful and look very unattractive!
- Tight pants or underwear can cause irritation after shaving, while loose-fitting underwear and pants can help prevent red spots and ingrown hairs from forming.
- Aloe vera is a great shaving gel, and it can also help prevent and treat itching and irritation.
- If you're afraid to shave all the hair in the bikini area at once, start by shaving from the outside of your panties. When you're done and familiar with the area, you can shave in small increments until you're finally able to clean the entire area.
- Shave in the shower, don't shave dry. If you're not in the shower, place a damp cloth on the area for 5 minutes before you start shaving.
- Use gels, soaps, and lotions that don't cause allergies to your skin. Don't use new bath products that you haven't used before to shave the bikini area.
- Look for red spots a few days after you shave. You can apply a special ointment to remove the red spots. You can buy it at the nearest pharmacy or drug store.
- Do not shave upwards or shave any red spots caused by a previous shave.
- Don't wear tight clothes. Tight clothing can be irritating and can also cause ingrown hairs.
Warning
- Don't apply shaving cream that you haven't used before.
- Do not spray perfume, body spray or deodorant spray on the area you just shaved. The spray can sting the skin, and cause skin irritation.
- Never use an electric razor with a rotating blade in your pubic area. You can get hurt!
- Avoid using hair removal creams. Depilatory drugs can indeed work well, but they can cause burns to the sensitive skin near the pubic area.
- Stop shaving immediately if you are cut or irritated, and rinse the irritation or cut with clean, running water. Never shave skin that is already irritated because this is unhealthy.
