This wikiHow teaches you how to change the name that appears in your YouTube comments, as well as the name of your channel. This name can be changed three times before the name change restrictions imposed by Google temporarily take effect. Also, any username changes you make will be applied to other Google products associated with your account (eg Gmail and Google+ accounts).

Method 1 of 2: On Mobile Devices
Step 1. Open YouTube
This app has a red icon with a white triangle in the middle. The YouTube home page will be displayed as long as you are signed in to your account.
If not, touch " ⋮ ”, then type in your email address and password to move to the next step.
Step 2. Touch the profile photo
This circular photo appears in the upper right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will open afterwards.
If you haven't uploaded a profile photo for your account, it will appear as a colored circle with your initials in the center
Step 3. Touch My channel
This Oosi is displayed at the top of the screen.
If you want to change the channel name, touch “ Switch accounts ”, select the channel name, and select the profile icon again.
Step 4. Touch
This icon appears at the far right of the page, opposite your username.
Step 5. Touch the button
next to your name.
It's a pencil icon to the right of the name.
Step 6. Change your name
Change the names in the "First" and "Last" fields to the desired names.
- If you want to change your username, you must enter your first and last name.
- If you want to change the channel name, the field will simply be labeled "Name", and you don't need to enter a name entry in the "Last" field.
Step 7. Select or OK.
This option is displayed on the top right side of the screen. Your username will be changed and will be visible to other users when you comment on videos on YouTube.
- Your new name will also appear in Gmail and Google+.
- Based on Google's policy, name changes can be made three times every 3 months or 90 days.
Method 2 of 2: On the YouTube Desktop Site
Step 1. Visit https://www.youtube.com in a browser
You can use any browser on your PC or Mac computer. If you are logged in to your account, the YouTube main page will load immediately.
If not, click the " Sign in ”, then type in your email address and password before moving on to the next step.
Step 2. Click the profile photo
It's in the top-right corner of the YouTube page. A drop-down menu will open afterwards.
If you haven't uploaded your account profile photo, it will appear as a colored circle with your initials in the center
Step 3. Select Settings or
The drop-down menu has a different layout, depending on the page you are currently visiting or loading when you access the menu. The “Settings” option is in the bottom half of the drop-down menu or appears as a gear icon at the top of the page, below the username.
If you want to change the channel name, click the link “ Switch accounts ”, select a channel name, and click the profile icon again.
Step 4. Click Edit on Google
This option appears next to the name, under the "Account information" heading.
Step 5. Type in your first and last name
Use the " First " and " Last " fields to enter your first and last name.
- If you want to display your username as multiple words (eg "Music Mania"), enter the first word in the " First " field and the next word or phrase in the " Last " field.
- If you want to change the channel name, the column will only be labeled "Name", while the "Last" column will not be used.

You can also add a nickname in the “ Nickname Nicknames can be displayed as part of the name. To display it, click the downward-facing triangle icon next to “ Display my name as:
” and select the desired display type of nickname.
Step 6. Select OK
It's below the renaming window.
Step 7. Select CHANGE NAME when prompted
The username (or channel name) will be changed after that.
Tips
- If you don't have a YouTube channel but have a Google+ account, your username will be used as the channel name.
- You can only change your name (maximum) 3 times in a 90 day period.
Warning
- You cannot select “YouTube” as the account username.
- Name changes can only be done a few times. After that, you are forced to "bear" the name of the channel that has been selected.
