Are you interested in beautifying your appearance with a hairdo in the form of a braid, but confused about how to do it? A beautiful and unique braid may look complicated than it really is, but once you understand how to make it, you will be able to easily make this braid whether it is for your friends, family, or even yourself.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Regular Braids
Step 1. Comb your hair
To make the perfect braid, your hair must be neatly combed. Otherwise, your hair will easily get caught during the braiding process, and as a result, your hair will become even more frizzy. In addition, you can also wet your hair to keep it neat when it has to be twisted.
Step 2. Using a leave-in conditioner or hair straightener can help you smooth out the stray hairs so that your braid will look tighter later
Tie your hair into a ponytail. If you want to make a neat braid, start with your hair in a ponytail. Grab all of your hair and pull it up until it reaches the desired height. Then, tie the hair with a rubber band
Step 3. You don't have to tie your hair in the middle position, but you can also tie your hair on the right or left side, depending on what style you want
To create a side ponytail, simply comb your hair to the desired side and tie it with an elastic band.
- If you don't want to look too neat, skip this step and you can go straight to braiding your hair, starting at the nape of your neck.
- Twist your hair. Divide your hair into two sections, and hold one section in each hand. Twist each piece with your fingers, in a counterclockwise direction. Make sure your fingers hold both sections tightly because if the hair falls off, you'll have to start all over again.
Step 4. If your hair is too long to twist all at once, you can start at the top of your hair and work your way down to the ends
Do this for each section.
Start braiding. Holding one piece in each hand, cross the two halves in a clockwise motion. This process requires you to keep moving each piece from one hand to the other. You'll also need to cross the two sections in a direction different from the direction of the twisting of the hair. If you cross them in the same direction, then your hair will fall back on its own
Step 5. Twist the braid until it's done
Twist your braid and keep criss-crossing the two sections until you reach the ends of your hair. If your hair falls back when you braid it, twist it back vigorously before going back to braiding.
Keep braiding your hair until you're done. Once you reach the ends of your hair, immediately tie the ends of your hair with a rubber band. You can slowly pull or loosen the tied braid to make it look wider and denser. In addition, you can also beautify your braid by adding decorations such as hair clips or ribbons to cover the rubber
Step 6. You can style your braid down or up
This hairstyle is actually very flexible. In cooler temperatures, you can add a beanie on top of your braid. If you want a more feminine look, you can add ribbons or flowers on top of your elastic ponytail.
Method 2 of 2: French Braids
Step 1. Comb your hair
Start with neat, tangle-free hair by combing through your entire hair. The braid won't work if your hair is still tangled.
Step 2. Gather your hair
You'll need to decide how thick you want your braid to look. If you start with a large amount of hair, each section of the braid will also be thicker. Gather a small section of hair at the top of your head to start the braid.
You can also make side braids. Simply take the hair from one side of your head and braid it in the same path as the middle braid
Step 3. Start braiding
Like a regular braid, you only need to divide your hair into two sections. Divide the hair from the top to the middle of your head into two sections. Then, rotate each piece with your fingers, in a counterclockwise direction. Make sure each piece forms a strong loop. After that, criss-cross the two parts in a clockwise direction and don't let your hair fall because the grip is not strong enough.
- Especially for this French braid, stranding both parts of the hair is done little by little. Therefore, you don't have to worry if you only generate the first two strands. The first two rows of braids are the sections that will be the center of joining the rest of the hair. So, as long as the two sections of hair have been twisted, your braid will look beautiful.
- If you don't want the braid to be too twisty, you can simply criss-cross the two sections of hair without having to twist them first.
Step 4. Twist and cross more hair
After the first two strands are crossed, take some of the hair that is still flowing from the right and join it with the strand on the right by twisting it until it joins into one strand. Repeat this step on the left side of your head. Make sure both strands are the same size or number of hairs for a balanced look.
If you want a smaller, tighter French braid, make sure you take less hair from both sides as you work your way down the hair. Although this method will take more time, you will definitely get a tighter braid
Step 5. Continue the braiding process
Cross the two strands that are continuously getting thicker in a clockwise direction, exactly as you applied your first two strands. Continue adding hair on both strands and twist as before. Keep repeating this step until all the hair on both sides has joined the strands.
Step 6. If you want your hair to be completely styled into a French braid, you can decide how long you want the braid to be
Once the braid has reached the desired length, tie the two strands together with an elastic band.
Step 7. Finish the braid
If you've reached the hair at the nape of your neck, all you have to do is continue by making a regular braid. Keep twisting and criss-crossing the two strands, clockwise until you reach the bottom of your braid. If the strands are still not tight, twist your hair a little more before you finish the braid. Tie the end of your braid with a rubber band.
You can form your braid into a bun that sits at the bottom of your head. When you're done braiding your hair, twist your braid into a bun and secure it with pins around it
Tips
- Be patient. This braiding process may seem difficult at first. Make sure that during braiding, you hold each section of hair firmly between your fingers so that the hair doesn't come loose and the braid doesn't get too loose.
- If you're having trouble, try practicing making this braid on someone else before you try it on your own hair. This exercise can help your hands get used to the methods needed to make braids. If you get used to it, the process of braiding your hair will become easier.
- Do your best, don't think too much, and keep trying even harder. The braiding process will become easier if you keep practicing. The more you practice, the better results you will get.
- If you're having trouble twisting both sections of your hair at the same time, you can use bobby pins to hold one section in place so you can focus on the other.
