This wikiHow teaches you how to import Yahoo contacts and messages into your Gmail inbox. You can also import contacts from only your Yahoo account if you want. To switch from Yahoo to Gmail, you need to use an internet-connected computer (not a smartphone or tablet).

Method 1 of 2: Importing All Messages and Contacts
Step 1. Open Gmail
Visit https://www.gmail.com/ via your computer's web browser. After that, your Gmail inbox will be displayed if you're already signed in to your Gmail account.
If you're not logged into your account, enter your email address and password before continuing
Step 2. Click the account settings gear icon or "Settings"
It's in the upper-right corner of the Gmail inbox page. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Click Settings
It's in the middle of the drop-down menu. After that, the settings page (“Settings”) will be displayed.
Step 4. Click the Accounts and Import tab
This tab is at the top of the settings page (“Settings”).
Step 5. Click Import mail and contacts
This link is in the "Import mail and contacts" section. Once clicked, a pop-up window will be displayed.
Click the link " Import from another address ” if you have previously imported information from a different email account.
Step 6. Enter your Yahoo email address when prompted
Type the address into the text field in the middle of the pop-up window.
Step 7. Click Continue
It's below the text field. After that, Gmail will search for the Yahoo address you entered. Once found, a new browser window will be opened.
Step 8. Sign in to your Yahoo email account
In the new window that opens, enter your Yahoo email address, click “ Next ”, enter the email account password, and select “ Sign in ”.
Step 9. Click Agree when prompted
It's a blue button at the bottom of the window.
Step 10. Close the Yahoo login window
After that, you will be directed to another pop-up window.
Step 11. Click Start import
It's a gray button at the bottom of the window.
You can uncheck the boxes that appear in the first window to disable some features (eg 30 days copying of new Yahoo messages)
Step 12. Click OK
It's at the bottom of the window. After that, Gmail will import chat messages and contacts from Yahoo.
- Based on messages/notes from Google, it may take up to 2 days for new messages to appear in Gmail inbox.
- You can close the settings page without interrupting/stopping the import process.
Method 2 of 2: Importing Contacts Only
Step 1. Open Gmail
Visit https://www.gmail.com/ via your computer's web browser. After that, your Gmail inbox will be displayed if you are already signed in to your Gmail account.
If you're not logged into your account, enter your email address and password before continuing
Step 2. Click the Gmail button
It's in the upper-left corner of your inbox. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Click Contacts
This option is in the drop-down menu. After that, the Google Contacts page will open.
Step 4. Make sure you are using the right version of Google Contacts
If you see the link “ Try Contacts preview ” on the left side of the page, click the link and follow the on-screen prompts before continuing.
Step 5. Click More
It's on the left side of the page. After that, the menu " More ” will be expanded and option “ Import " and " Export " will be shown.
If you don't see the option on the left side of the page, tap the “ ☰ ” in the top-left corner of the page first.
Step 6. Click Import
This option is under the “ More Once clicked, a pop-up window will be displayed.
Step 7. Click Yahoo Mail
It's at the top of the pop-up window.
Step 8. Click I AGREE, LET'S GO
when requested.It's in the lower-right corner of the pop-up window. After that, you will be taken to the Yahoo login page.
Step 9. Sign in to your Yahoo email account
Type in your Yahoo email address, click Next ”, enter the email account password, and select “ Sign in ”.
Step 10. Click Agree when prompted
It's a blue button at the bottom of the window. With this option, you confirm that you want to import contacts from Yahoo into the Google Contacts page.
Step 11. Wait for the contacts from Yahoo to finish importing
You will receive a notification once the contacts have finished importing into the Google Contacts page.
