This wikiHow teaches you how to reboot an iPad, as well as reset an iPad that's locked due to a forgotten password.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Rebooting an Unresponsive or Damaged iPad
Step 1. Look for the Power and Home buttons
You'll find the power button on the top side of the iPad, and the Home button on the bottom center of the device.
Step 2. Press and hold both buttons until you see the Apple logo
Step 3. Release the power button and Home button
If you hold it too long, you will enter recovery mode (recovery mode).
Step 4. Wait for the iPad to reboot again
Rebooting this way can usually fix minor issues with the iPad, such as connection issues and charging errors.

Step 10. Sign in using the Apple ID and password
Step 1. Open a web browser on your computer or mobile device
If your iPad is locked because you forgot the password, and you never used iTunes to sync iPad to your computer, you can use iCloud to remove the password and restore device settings.
This method can't be followed if you're not signed in to your iCloud account via iPad, or iPad isn't connected to a wireless network. If you experience this, you will need to use recovery mode to restore the original iPad settings
Step 2. Visit the Find My iPhone website
Despite the name, the site can be used for all iOS devices, including the iPad.
Step 3. Sign in using the Apple ID and password
If you forget your Apple ID or password, you can reset your password via the iForgot website.
Step 4. Click the All Devices menu
You can see the menu button at the top of the window.
Step 5. Click iPad on the list of devices displayed
If the device is not found because the device is outside the network, you need to use recovery mode to restore the original iPad settings.
Step 6. Click the Erase button
You can see the button on the card with the iPad details in the corner.
Step 7. Click the Erase button
After that, the process of deleting data and resetting the iPad will take place.
Step 8. Wait for the reset process to complete
The process may take several minutes. You can monitor the progress of the process via the iPad screen.
Step 9. Swipe the screen to start the iPad initial setup process
Step 10. Select the desired language and region
Step 11. Select the wireless network you want to connect to the iPad
Enter the password if prompted.
Step 12. Sign in using the Apple ID and password
After that, the data stored in iCloud will be returned to the iPad.
If you're asked to sign in with a previous user's Apple ID, you'll need to sign in using that user's login information or have them remove the iPad from their account via the icloud.com/find site. You can't use an iPad until the previous owner removes the iPad from their account
Tips
- If you're resetting an iPad and are asked to enter the old owner's Apple ID and password, you'll need to enter the old owner's login information or have him or her remove your iPad from their account at icloud.com/find (accessible via any web browser). You cannot reset a device that is still locked by the old owner's account.
- If iPad doesn't charge properly, try changing the cable and adapter. If charging is still not working properly after replacing the cable, try a factory reset.
