This wikiHow teaches you how to find the approximate geographic location of a specific IP address. To trace an IP address, you must first find the address itself.

Method 1 of 2: Using WolframAlpha
Step 1. Locate the IP address you want to trace
You can look up a website's IP address on Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android platforms.
You can also look up the Skype user's IP address if necessary
Step 2. Open the WolframAlpha website
Visit https://www.wolframalpha.com/ via a web browser.
Step 3. Click the search bar
This bar is at the top of the page.
Step 4. Enter the IP address you found
For example, if you want to track Facebook's IP address, type 157.240.18.35 into the search bar.
Step 5. Press Enter key
After that, the geographic details of the IP address will be searched.
Step 6. Review the results found
WolframAlpha usually displays information such as the type of IP address, the internet service provider used for the address (eg Telkom), and the city or region of origin of the IP address.
- You can click on the option " More ” next to the heading " IP address registrant: " to view information about the city in question.
- If WolframAlpha doesn't show IP address information, try using IP Lookup.
Method 2 of 2: Using IP Lookup
Step 1. Locate the IP address you want to trace
You can look up a website's IP address on Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android platforms.
You can also look up the Skype user's IP address if necessary
Step 2. Go to IP Lookup website
Visit https://community.spiceworks.com/tools/ip-lookup/ via a web browser.
Step 3. Click the search bar
This white bar is below the "IP Address or Hostname" heading.
Step 4. Type in the IP address you found
For example, if you want to find one of Google's IP addresses, type in 172.217.7.206.
Step 5. Click Lookup IP
It's a blue button to the right of the text field. After that, IP Lookup will look for the IP address you entered.
Step 6. Review the results found
IP Lookup provides basic information about the location of an IP address (eg city and state) along with a map and locator.
