This wikiHow teaches you how to find out how much RAM (Random Access Memory) is installed on your computer or iPad. RAM is responsible for ensuring that open programs run smoothly.

Method 1 of 3: On Windows
Step 1. Go to Start
Do this by clicking on the Windows logo in the lower-left corner.
Step 2. Open Settings
Click the gear icon located at the bottom left of the window Start. This will open the Settings window.
Step 3. Click System
It's a laptop-shaped icon in the upper-left side of the window.
Step 4. Click About
This tab is in the lower-left corner of the System window. A list of computer information will be opened.
Step 5. Look at the "Installed RAM" section located in the "Device specifications" section in the middle of the page
The number listed to the right of the "Installed RAM" heading is the amount of RAM installed in your PC.
Step 6. Check the RAM usage on the computer
If you want to see how much RAM is being used on your computer (or how much is being used at some point), use the Task Manager.
By doing this while running a program, you can find out how much RAM the program needs to run properly
Method 2 of 3: On Mac
Step 1. Open Apple menu
Do this by clicking the Apple logo in the upper-left corner. This will open a drop-down menu.
Step 2. Click About This Mac in the drop-down menu
The About This Mac window will open.
Step 3. Click Overview
This tab is located at the top left of the About This Mac window.
Usually, tab Overview by default it will appear immediately when you open About This Mac.
Step 4. Look at the "Memory" heading
The number listed to the right of the " Memory " heading is the amount of RAM your Mac has installed, along with the type of RAM it's using.
Step 5. Check RAM usage on Mac
If you want to see how much RAM your Mac uses (or how much it's used at a certain point), use Activity Monitor.
By doing this while running a program, you can find out how much RAM the program needs to run properly
Method 3 of 3: On iPad
Step 1. Open the App Store
on iPads.
Tap the App Store, which is a white "A" on a blue background.
To run the apps used in this method, your iPad must be running at least iOS 7
Step 2. Look for the Smart Memory Lite app
Touch the search field in the upper right corner, then type smart memory lite and touch the button Search blue icon located in the lower right corner of the keyboard (keyboard).
If the search field does not appear, first make sure that you are on the right tab by touching Featured which is in the lower left corner.
Step 3. Look for the “Smart Memory Lite” app
The name of the app will appear at the top of the search results.
Step 4. Touch GET
It's on the right side of the Smart Memory Lite app.
Step 5. Enter Touch ID when prompted
Scan your Touch ID finger so the app can be downloaded to the iPad.
If your iPad isn't using Touch ID, touch Install at the bottom of the screen when prompted, then type in your Apple ID password.
Step 6. Run Smart Memory Lite
Touch OPEN in the App Store after you've finished downloading the app, or tap the Smart Memory Lite icon, which is a chip.
Step 7. Look at how much RAM the iPad has
At the bottom right, there is a circle with numbers in it. This is the total RAM installed on the iPad.
Unlike computers, you can't increase the RAM on the iPad
Step 8. Check the RAM usage on the iPad
There are several bars at the bottom of the screen. The blue bar is the RAM allocation used by the iPad, the red bar shows the RAM in use permanently, the green bar is the unused RAM, while the gray bar shows the RAM used by the system.
You can also see the actual percentage of RAM usage on your iPad on the right side of the screen
Tips
- The Smart Memory Lite app is available for both iPhone and iPad.
- RAM (also known as "memory") is not the same as hard disk space. Hard disk space is usually known as "storage".
- You can also check your computer's hard disk storage space.
