This wikiHow teaches you how to copy files from a compressed (or "ZIP") folder to a regular uncompressed folder on your computer.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using Windows
Step 1. Find the ZIP folder you want to extract by typing the folder name in the Start menu search bar
After that, click on the folder.
If you downloaded the ZIP folder from the internet, the file might be on your desktop or in a downloads folder
Step 2. Right-click the ZIP file to open the context menu
Step 3. Click Extract All near the top of the context menu
Step 4. Click the Browse button
This option is to the right of the address bar, above the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Files" window.
Step 5. Select the destination folder
Click a folder (eg Desktop) in the left pane, then select a folder in the main window. If you don't want to extract files to a specific folder, select any folder.
Step 6. Click OK to set the destination folder
Step 7. Click Extract in the lower right corner of the window
Your ZIP file will be extracted to the folder you selected.
The ZIP file extraction process will take some time if the file contains large videos or photos
Method 2 of 2: Using a Mac
Step 1. Locate the ZIP folder that you want to extract
If you downloaded the ZIP folder from the internet, the file might be in the downloads folder. To access the download folder, click the tab Go, and select Downloads.
The ZIP folder may be on your desktop or your personal folder (if you have one)
Step 2. Move the ZIP folder if needed
When you extract the ZIP folder, the files in it will appear in the regular folder. This extracted folder will be in the same folder as the ZIP file. You can move a folder by clicking and dragging the folder to a different location (for example, to the Desktop).
For example, if you extract a ZIP folder from the Desktop, the extracted folder will also be on the Desktop
Step 3. Double click your ZIP folder
The files in it will begin to be extracted to the current directory.
Step 4. Wait until the extraction process is complete
The extraction process will take a while, depending on the size of the ZIP folder. Once done, you will see a blue folder with the same name as the ZIP folder, where you saved the ZIP folder.
