Placing blocks has a large portion in Minecraft. Unfortunately, how to place certain blocks can not always be done by instinct. Here's a guide to help you lay down those difficult blocks.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Equal Sided Blocks
Step 1. Select the block you want to place from the hotbar
Step 2. If all six sides of the block are equal, you just need to right-click to place the block where you want it
Method 2 of 3: Vertically Locked Blocks
Step 1. Select the block you want to place from the hotbar
Step 2. If all four sides of the block are the same, but the top (and possibly bottom) sides are different, the block may be locked vertically
This means that blocks can only be placed with the top and bottom sides facing up and down
Step 3. Place the blocks by right clicking, making sure you know which side to see
Method 3 of 3: Player Oriented Blocks
Step 1. Select the block you want to place from the hotbar
Step 2. If a block has one edge that interacts with the environment, it may be player-oriented
So are logs or quartz pillars
Step 3. Stand so that the part that interacts with the environment (which will always appear to be facing you) will be positioned in the direction you want it to be
If you want the block to face up or down, you may have to build pillars up or dig
Step 4. Right click to place your block
Step 5. If the block is placed the wrong way (for example, the block is facing up when it should be facing forward), you just need to destroy the block and replace it
