This wikiHow teaches you how to block calls from unknown numbers on both iPhone and Android. You can do this by using Do Not Disturb on iPhone, or changing calling settings on Android if you're using a Samsung phone. If you're not using a Samsung phone, you can download an app called Should I Answer? to block unknown calls on Android. Unfortunately, there are no apps or settings on iPhone to block private, unknown, or restrict incoming calls.
Step
Method 1 of 3: On iPhone
Step 1. Go to settings
on iPhone.
Tap the gray app with the gear icon on it. This app can usually be found on the Home screen.
Step 2. Look down and tap on
Do Not Disturb.
It's not far from the top of the Settings page.
Step 3. Tap on the “Do Not Disturb” switch
The color will change to green
Step 4. Tap Allow Calls From
This option is available near the bottom of the screen.
Step 5. Tap All Contacts
This will select the entire contact list as an exception to Do Not Disturb. Now you cannot receive calls from people who are not in the contact list.
- This method will block all calls from numbers that are not in the contact list. This means that you can lose opportunities if you have appointments with other people or work matters.
- Do Not Disturb also prevents notifications from other apps (e.g. SMS, email, social media).
Method 2 of 3: On Samsung Galaxy
Step 1. Make sure you have a Samsung phone
Samsung phones are the only Android phones that have a call rejection setting from unknown numbers.
If you're using a non-Samsung Android phone, jump straight to the Should I Answer App
Step 2. Open the Phone app
Tap the phone-shaped app on your Android home screen.
Step 3. Tap
It's located at the top right of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
Step 4. Tap Settings
It's near the bottom of the menu list.
Step 5. Tap Block numbers
It's in the middle of the menu. This step will open the incoming call blocking settings.
Step 6. Tap on the gray switch "Block anonymous calls"
The color will turn blue
. Your Samsung phone will now block all calls from unknown numbers.
Method 3 of 3: Using the Should I Answer App on Android
Step 1. Download the Should I Answer App
So you're already using the Should I Answer app, skip this step. Steps to download:

Androidgoogleplay Google Play Store.
- Tap the search bar.
- Type should i answer
- Tap Should I Answer?
- Tap INSTALL
- Tap AGREE
Step 2. Open the Should I Answer App
Tap OPEN on the right side of the Google Play Store page, or tap the Should I Answer app icon on your phone's app list.
Step 3. Double tap CONTINUE
Both options CONTINUE is at the bottom of the screen. This step will take you back to the main page.
Step 4. Tap the SETTINGS tab
It's at the top of the main Should I Answer page.
Step 5. Look down to the "Block INCOMING calls from" section
It's near the bottom of the page.
Step 6. Tap on the gray “hidden numbers” toggle
The color will change
which means Should I Answer will block calls from certain numbers or unknown numbers.
